  • awesome filthy sluts tiny[dot]cc/lesbian715

  • YEahh Borussia Moenchengladbach

forever love this team fan friendship with Liverpool for already 32 years

  • This final is so different from the dumbed down Europa League. It reminds me of the tradition and quality of the old and great InterCities/Fairs/Uefa Cup approach. In the beginning it was the city - not he club that was represented. One club one city.

  • Through this europe was brought together in a festival of football. In those days even if United and Dundee qaulified for europe - only team played - one city one club. Like Glsgow playing Milan or Madrid playing London.

  • The two- legged approach gave this tradition a real continental feel. Like the taste of a holiday. Home or away - the excitement of continental cities and tanned players, latin style and the white of Scots skin simply added to the atmosphere of those 'legs'.

  • It was the skill of doing your stuff away then home again to finish the tie. Then the chance of the untimate - getting to the final with the away leg first and bring the real 'final' the second leg to your home town. That was what happened in '87 - that is what makes this final so unique.

  • Now we have a nonsense! We have teams beaten in the champions league at points from qualification to being beaten - possibly many times in the groups stages of the 'Premier' competition. In the early days when the European Cup was for actual champions

  • - the second placed team if they had not won the national cup would go into the Inter cities Fairs Cup - this produced a quality cup -if you lost over two legs you were out at anay stage. Not depending on others in a league system - that is seeded and structured so rigidly!

  • IMAGINE A CHAMPIONS LEAGUE LIKE THIS?

One frome each in each group -

The holder, England, Spain, Italy, France, Germany, Russia, Romania,

Portugal, Netherlands, Scotland, Turkey, Ukraine, Belgium, Greece, Czech Republic.

Switzerland, Bulgaria, Norway, Denmark, Austria, Serbia, Israel, Sweden,

Slovakia, Poland, Hungary, Croatia, Cyprus, Slovenia, Finland, Latvia.

Sounds about right - we do it for nations cup!

  • These are the top 32 rank countries in Europe. listed in four sets of 8 teams in order of performance.

What would be wrong with a group champions from -

    Italy

    Netherlands

    Bugaria

    Croatia

One from each of those 8 team lists.

More exciting than having an English team in 4 groups or Spamish teams in three etc

  • I doubt that we will ever see a true Champions League where a 'Little Giant' can actually win it!

  • Why are these teams in the the group stage of the champions league with such low coefficients?

    FC Rubin Kazan (RUS) 9.525

    AFC Unirea Urziceni (ROU) 8.781

  • When these teams had to play in the 3rd qualifying round and have to play 4 more games?

    Olympiacos CFP (GRE) 52.633

    SK Slavia Praha (CZE) 25.150

    FC Zürich (SUI) 14.050

Do the numbers mean anything or nothing?

  • If they are all champions - what is the difference?

  • In fact all of these teams gain automatic entry to the group stages with lower ranking than Olympiacos CFP (GRE) 52.633 - who had to play in the third qualifying round!

    Olympique de Marseille (FRA) 48.033

    FC Dynamo Kyiv (UKR) 46.370

FC Girondins de Bordeaux (FRA) 40.033

    Beşiktaş JK (TUR) 32.445

    VfL Wolfsburg (GER) 21.339

    R. Standard de Liège (BEL) 21.065

    FC Rubin Kazan (RUS) 9.525

    AFC Unirea Urziceni (ROU) 8.781

  • plus the non-champions of -

    VfB Stuttgart (GER) 45.339

    ACF Fiorentina (ITA) 42.582

Club Atlético de Madrid (SPA) 41.853

...who gained automatic entry to the play - off stages! Seems just a little Micky Mouse to me!

  • It seems countries have been promised places at certain stages yet their performance when the plans are drawn up closer to the time - is not at that level. Meaning that other clubs from other countries lose out - who have performed better but may not have the pulling strength in the offices of power.

  • How can Liverpool and Chelsea be exactly the same levet to less than 1000th of a mark? Penalty shootouts are 2000 time more acturate!

Both on 118.899 exactly! Even basic statistics tells us things cannot be so precise and that measurements should not be presented in such 'false' levels. So why do so?

I wonder what coefficients teams get for simply being in the English Premier league? Why do Wolfsburg (Champions of Germany) rated at 21.339 while Munich are 98.399 (runners up)?!

  • This competition is named Champions League - for what reason?

  • Those rated higher than Wolfsburg?

    FC København (DEN) 26.890

    PFC Levski Sofia (BUL) 24.250

    FK Partizan (SRB) 23.050

Having had to play from the second qualifying round - playing 6 more qualifying games than Wolfsburg - who go automatically into the group stage. If the German League is so hard to win why are Wolfsburg rated so low. This is important cause Wolfsburg will be ranked 2nd in a group possibly play Barcelona rather than a team od Wolfsburgs ranking!

  • Odds on a true 'Little Giant' winning the Champions league? Suggestions please!

  • Rankings for 2009/10 set on 'Thursday 18 December 2008' - clearly not so accurate!

  • Why is it that Shakter Donesk and Zenit St Petersburg the last two Uefa Cup Champions have to qualify for the Europa League? While Fulham who have never played in Europe have been seeded at the same level as those Champions?

  • UTD one and only chance for Euro glory. it was also against an equally unfancied team. it must irk you lot se without much of a fight.nsless tosee that opportunity disappear

  • Did you know Goteborg reached the Semis of the European Cup the previous year? Only losing on penalities to Barcelona. Unfancied!

  • Decided to change the music - as I wanted the whole world to be able to see it. At the moment only a few european countries could.....

  • Universal had bocked the film in most countries and this new music does help me dream of that final.....

  • I was 2 days old that day lol

  • If you were at this game please join my group at "Were you at the UEFA Cup Final 1987 group?" on Facebook. Lets try and get a collective memory of the game and this important day for both Dundee United and IFK Goteborg. Even better if you were a player add you momories. All supporters and views welcome.

  • what is the name of the song??

  • its the title song from the film "Chariots of Fire" by Vangelis

  • thank you :)

  • brought a tear to my eye , i remember being there (i was 16) me and my mates queued from 630 on the sunday previous for 3 hrs to get a ticket at the princley sum of £10 !!!!

  • ....yes it was very special

  • IFK Gothenburg is back! They gonna play in champions league 09!

  • Good to hear your back! Where had you gone? United cheated out of Uefa Cup place by a very dodgy ref against Rangers. Do Goteborg have to go through qualifying or straight into league stage? How do you honour the players of 82 and 87?

  • Thank you! I feel sorry for you that you been cheated out the uefa cup place!

We have to go to qualifying and I think it's really bad becouse we won the swedish league and the name of the cup is "Champions league"..

We honour the herous through writing songs about them and they are often talking on the pitch in half-time and stuff..many of the players name in that team was "Glenn" and we are allways singing "Everyone is named Glenn in Gothenburg during the games" I wish Dundee good luck!

  • still prefer two legged finals!

  • "Everyone is named Glenn in Gothenburg" are we singing..saw I wrote little wrong there..hehe..

  • search on youtube for "IFK Göteborg SM GULD 2007 STORMNING" and watch the movie in on the top of the list and see some great pictures from the day we won the swedish league..The most happy day in my life...We had to wait 11 years!

  • whats the name of this song?

  • See on You tube film "Vangelis talks about his score for Chariots of Fire" for more about this music and its meaning to the film and the value of music and film

  • FTD! best football night the city has ever seen, was at the match, it was brilliant! made the memories flood back. officialy the best fans in europe, what an honour!

  • ...might not say that about Rangers fans in 2008. At least we entertained and played attacking football!

  • forza göteborg

  • They got the first FIFA Fair Play award for that night. It was the feeling that a small club could host a major European Final that meant so much to the fans

  • Dundee United has been great in that season as much as it was Videoton in 85, Bordeaux in 96, Lazio in 98, Torino in 92. All these teams were surprisingly finalists, so that losing the final wasn't such a great deception for each of these teams. Wonderful images these with Dundee Utd's players celebrating though defeated.

  • It was the thought of hosting a major European Final in such a small stadium and for a small club that was a very proud moment. Fifa gave United the first Fair Play Award for the fans and their respect in defeat.

  • Flamurtari, Vlora Albania!

  • The release of the DVD has been timed to coincide with our "re-match" against Barcelona but, for Arabs everywhere, it should prove to be a timeless and unique memento of an unforgettable experience.

  • Those taking part include Gordon Wallace, Eammon Bannon, John Holt, Billy Thomson, Ian Redford, John Clark, Paul Sturrock and Kevin Gallacher. Respected commentator Archie McPherson also provides a glowing tribute and some of the fans who were at the games share their treasured memories. The DVD also features extracts from "Little Giants" a much commented on video by Graham Duncan, filmed from a unique personal perspective at the time.

  • The DVD - entitled "Flair Play" in recognition of the United's famed European style of play and the supporters' FIFA Fair Play award - is a unique retrospective on Dundee United reaching the UEFA CUP Final that year and contains new, fresh, interviews with players from the 1987 team recalling games and specific incidents, interspersed with footage from the campaign.

  • Dundee United Media's brand new DVD to mark the 20 year anniversary of the Club's magnificent 1987 UEFA Cup is now on sale at the Club Shop, Dundee United Direct.

  • ....extracts from Little Giants are included along with a short interview with myself on this DVD

  • FORZA IFK GÖTEBORG

  • Wow I could only dream of getting my hands on as much as a hundred quid!

  • £50.43 more like for me!

  • A home movie. Nothing was made from this - it is simply a man filming a special event - Joy and Sorrow. Everything that is football.

  • This is just a home movie. A simple home movie. It does not have the fore thought of being smart. It is simply what it is and was. A record of a day that may never be repeated -in Scotland or any country with a big heart and lots of passion!

  • It was only this evening I found this site, F*&^%$G A*&^%$G memories, thanks.

  • That is staggering!

  • Teams at the top, bottom and middle of the league - concentrating of losing rather than proactively seeking to win the league. The reason to seek a place in Europe (apart from those at the bottom!). This is the true impact of 'new' European competitions. Around 40% of the Premier league plays in Europe. Competitions designed for 'Champions' but played by teams that do not win or do not weant to!

  • I noted that during one of the live English FA Cup games it was claimed that teams were resting players during the FA cup to enable concentration upon the league.

  • What the hell are you guys talking about about??? The best team was GALATASARAY in eufa cup ever. The best final was liverpool and alaves in 2001 the score was 5-4 it was fuccing unbealivable....GALATASARAY WAS REALY LEGEND

  • TWO teams from the same city that reached the semi-finals of BOTH the UEFA CUP and the EUROPEAN CUP (the real one - not the false 'Champions' League of today when are not champions of their own country). When did West Ham or Man City reach the semi-final of the EUROPEAN CUP? Both Dundee teams did that by 1984 and both did at the first and only attempt!

It is often to the big city clubs that reach the highest level in Europe and the big clubs design the competitions to suit themselves.

  • so what are you thinking about GALATASARAY.because they always in champions league and they have uefa and super cup.Theyy took from real madrid :) it is very incridible for them.after porto I think galatasaray most joined team to champions league...

  • What I am saying is that a small group of cities/teams have been able to perform at the highest level when they were champions and when ALSO when they were not.

I watched a re-run of a Ipswich Town v Man United game in 1980. Ipswich won 6-0 and also missed three penalties! Everyone thinks Man United were always great HOWEVER this game shows why so few big club cities with two teams achieved what Dundee, Milan and Madrid could and did.

  • BvB 09 best german club Grüße aus germany

    Celtic + BvB "Fan-Freinds" 4ever !

  • thanks! Dundee beat Koln 8-1 in 1962 in the European Cup. That was how good small teams could be. Dundee United beat BMGladback twice in different Uefa Cup years (5-0 at home and 2-0 away in Germany). They also beat Werder Bremen when they were German champions.

  • and Teddy Roosevelt was an alcoholic, he taked more piss than I do

  • Thats ridiculous, Liverpool have WON the European Cup, and Everton WON the cup winners cup. Utd won the European Cup and City won the UEFA Cup. Arsenal, Spurs, Chelsea and West Ham have all won the UEFA Cup

  • I am speaking about TWO teams from the same city that reached the semi-finals of BOTH the UEFA CUP and the EUROPEAN CUP (the real one - not the false 'Champions' League of today when are not champions of their own country). When did West Ham or Man City reach the semi-final of the EUROPEAN CUP? Both Dundee teams did that by 1984 and both did at the first and only attempt!

  • There was only 16 teams in it back then, you only had to win 2 games to get to the semis, coupled with the fact that the Scottish league is easier than the English league to finish higher in

  • So why could Chelsea, Spurs not do it then?

The Dundee teams did it and at the one and only chance. In the UEFA CUP Dundee United have played Barcelona FOUR times and WON FOUR times! The Scottish league is not easy if you are a small team - both the Dundee teams were and are small teams. Liverpool and Everton could not both. Man City and Man Utd could not - Why not?

  • Dundee, Milan and Madrid Rule!

  • Well Ive never heard anyone from Milan or Madrid mention this fact. Semi Finalists = LOSERS

All them English teams mentioned have WON European competitions, and we can throw in Forest, Villa, Leeds, Newcastle and Ipswich as well into that equation

  • They probably don't realise it!

Did "Forest, Villa, Leeds, Newcastle and Ipswich" win because they only had to play 2 matches to get to the semi's? When did Ipswich, Birmingham City or Newcastle reach the semi-final of the European Cup?

  • Dundee and Dundee United did what cities with teams such as Charlton or Milwall could only dream of such performance. Winning is not everything - even though winning is great. It is doing the best you can and take pride it what you can do. Perhaps England and English teams have something to learn from that ideal.

  • Im afraid winning IS everything if your looking for respect from mainland Europe. Nobody even knows that Dundee made the semis, the only reason I know is cos I read it in old programmes. Charlton and Millwall are 2nd division teams, yous are Scots 1st division teams. Yous are Scotlands 3rd or 4th largest city, so that would put yous on a par with the Manchester and Liverpool teams. Arsenal, Spurs , Chelsea and West Ham represent London not Charlton Millwall

  • Charlton and Millwall - would represent London if they DID reach a semi or a final! TV would make sure of it. Momey would be there to be made. If winning is everything-why do we have leagues for 'Champions' and those in the Uefa Cup LEAGUE - when winning two games could get us toa semi-final? That is my exact point winning is not everthing. It is aabout money!

  • It is pride that matters in all that we have said. What disappoints is the standard of administration at the highest level that takes advantage of the ordinary fan - who pays his money - yet get rubbish referees!

  • Yeah for the clubs and chairman in particular its about the money, but we're just fans, its about winning. Im a Liverpool fan trust me if we get to a semi final or a final and then we dont end up winning the cup , its a disaster. There was no money in it back then when Dundee got to the Euro semi, or for Utd in 1987 either for that matter. I understand your little dig at refs though, wanna know my theory about yester........

  • I think its cos of the Rangers fans singing FTP when they play away in Spain or Italy. Cos Scotland look a bit like Rangers dont they , in their blue shirts, more than they look like Celtic at least, and St Andrews flags look more like Union Jacks than Ireland flags as well. I think yous got fucked cos of the Rangers fans bigotry

  • You lost. Echoes of the deluded who went to Seville. At the last count, there were over 7.2 million of them apparently, most of whom had travelled the short distance across the Iberian Peninsula having settled in Lisbon in May 1967, even though 6 million of them were 20 years short of being born.

Never forget that there is only one team in Scotland who has won two European trophies and has a 100% success record in European finals.

    Keep celebrating failure.

  • Who are they? Who is the one team?

  • Check your history book my friend. 11 May 1983 (in Gothenburg, coincidentally) and 20 December that year. Adidas European Team of the Year. That's why the badge has two stars.

    Belief. Success. Pride.

  • It was no failure because United won the first ever FIFA Fair Play Award!

  • I could tell you vastly different tales of the "Fair Play" of their fans, including racism and a hospitalised friend, who was hit on the head by a brick wrapped in disguise in a fish n chip wrapper at a 1984 Cup replay at Tannadice.

    Lovely.

  • Where is the Aberdeen home movie of the '83 final?

  • 1987 certainly was no failure!

  • What?????

St Mirren at Hampden and then a 2-legged final where they folded like wet cardboard as usual?

    Whatever.......

  • That is why the film was lost in a cupboard for 20 yesrs!

  • We are all Scots together today!

  • Thanks 4 your reply negba yes fair play was justified basically being a steward meant we had 2 b in the ground 4hrs before kick off so we saw all the players from both teams sssooob

  • au cumparat meciu ...fack AMERICAN BOYS AND GIRLS

  • Memories 4me this game was the last time that i ever set foot in Tannadice i was a ground steward for the last time that day Memories

  • Great to hear from you. What were your memories? What was the game like steward? Was the Fair Play award justified in your opinion? Love to hear from you!

  • Tannadice was packed to the rafters. We could have sold out Hampden...

  • IFK GOTHENBURG <3

  • Lovely - although remind me what happened 4 days previous :)

  • I have a film of that as well!

  • a botova !

  • thanks

  • It is the theme song to "Chariots of Fire" by Vangelis. The first song on "Little Giants" was "One of us" by ABBA.

  • whats the name of the first song?

  • It is the theme song to "Chariots of Fire" by Vangelis. The first song on "Little Giants" was "One of us" by ABBA.

  • The number of views of the four parts of "Little Giants" now exceeds the number of fans at the actual final in Dundee in 1987.

  • This is the trailer to "Little Giants" - my film of the 1987 UEFA Cup Final 2nd leg between Dundee United and Goteborg in Dundee. Extracts from "Little Giants" now included on the official Dundee United DVD marking 20 years since that game. The DVD "Flair Play" is on sale online at the Dundee United Shop - price £12.99.

  • Amazing Flamurtari (Vlora, Albania)

  • thanks

  • beautiful one word beautiful

  • thanks

  • uerdingen :O

  • So good

  • thanks

  • Walter Smith Played for United. Its true! I saw him many times in the United strip.

  • i´ am verry happy.

i have the Finals in full Lenght of DVD !

  • Don't think I ever watched them - it was painful to watched at the time. I think that is why I can watch my own film with such interest and feeling. It was my personal menory. My eye to the lens and my view for a few hours.

  • Great video. I remember the 3rd round and 2 games against Hajduk Split...If I am not mistaken, the goalie's name was Billy Thompson...also remember great fans and atmosphere up in Scotland. Wish we had more Little Giants like Dundee United.

  • Thanks. Football brings us together!

  • Please check my video 'bout UEFA Cup Final 2004

  • The more time that passes the more amazing it seems that a teasm with gates of 10000 ever got anywhere near a Euro final. Teams like Borussia, Barca, Monaco, Rapid, Standard Liege, Roma must all have thought they were there for a stroll in the park. I remember though feeling so disappointed at the UEFA cup final although most folk around me were cheering United, Gothenburg and, then, Jim McLean as he jogged rouns the pitch to acknowledge the chant that had gone up for him.

  • Love this video...great job!

  • Add your memories of the game and the city of Dundee to "Dundee (and United!)and its history" - my new group on You Tube.
