David Archuleta is simply angelic and divine! He honored Mother Mary with reverence by his version of this song, you could feel it in your heart and inner most being. God has chosen this young man, blessed him and shared with us. we love and adore you, Archie! Thanks be to God!
I know that is a real choir from their tweets the day David went there. I think the backing track with orchestra and choir was used at lowered volume with the kid's choir singing softly on top of that. And I think David sang this live there because there are small diffs in his singing between this and his album recording. But sure, maybe they played back what they recorded earlier at the school for this performance in front of the audience of children.
On more views, yeah he is definitely singing it live right as this was taped. It's obvious even just from his breaths. And he sang it live every night of his Christmas tour (last night is tonight I think in Westbury NY). Check out his live concert on Billboard Live (less than a week left to do that). And buy his Christmas CD - it's gorgeous and soulful.
D, you nailed 2:15-18 note with an added vibrato. Bravo!, Bravo! Keep that up you know and the extra run on Amen. It gives you the full control of your song Fantabulous job! Do the same in Boston and Merry Christmas to you and
He was live 100%. To be honest, I don't think he knows how to playback hahha. He did it just once due to weather conditions and you could've say for sure that it is playback. Now it wasn't.
@Lanaaay245 It's obvious that this performance was live. You can even hear his loud inhalations. It's just that this clip does not have the video and sound in sync.
nooo i knoow its live!!! :) haha i can definitely tell its live, but that one spot, the way he moves shows he hit the higher note, but the audio is the lower.
He is singing live however the choir is not because they had to use the backing track from the album. You can hear audible differences between the recorded version and this one. You also can hear the breaths he takes between his phrases a lot more here than in the recorded version.
You can even hear how he licks his lips haha....and that's not from the recorded version.
Would be funny him thinking "ok, what's next? after this lyric I have to lick my lips and make the specific sound....and nooow 3..2..1... breaaath " hahaha
Just stunning! This difficult version of Ave Maria is by far the most beautiful and moving. Loved the way the microphone wasn't blocking his face. Bravo!
i remember i saw this i was freaking out i was like OMG DAVID!:D

There were slight changes in this - even in the final amen, amen. But the backiing track was there.

You are correct. The choir was from the album's backing track, however, but David's voice is live--this is the same setup he does it at his concerts.
