lol for all those guys that say labron and kobey blah blah blah, ok no one denies it, labron and kobe are good ballers, but common their not like mj, if u young fellas woulda remembered jordan playing back in the days u woulda known,mj used to pull up meracles , way more then anyone nba player has,Jordan is as perfect as a human being can be at basketball, common at his age who does this stuff? tell me? so from now on to put labron in a argument, u can say labron is the next kobey lol but not mj
When Jordan was in the league I hated him because you knew he was going to win. He took all the fun out of it. Only two players in my life have made me feel this way, Jordan and sometimes Shaq. Have never felt that way about Kobe.. maybe Lakers win, maybe not but you always feel like you have a chance against Kobe. He has those nights were he shoots horrible shots and bricks it all night. Jordan sent shivers through opponents spines and gave them nightmares.
Despite what most people saying, I love MJs last season in DC. He lost his hops and his first step. An enormous adjustment for the most athletic player ever. He relies on mid range jumpers and ball fakes. His diminishing athletism really accentuated how skilled and cerebral he was as a player.

is it me or when jordan shoot free throws the opponent crowd r quite. but when kobe shoot free throws he gets a kobe suck chant and boos and noise to distract him.
@Taywarit13 at this point it was like his victory lap, he had already retired as the greatest so he basically saying his farewells, so the fans were just being respectful, cause mikes earned it. im sure when mike was still in chicago they screamed just as loud as they do for kobe.
man have kobe ever pass the ball like that at 3:15? nope all he does is hog the ball his move r all jordans move but jordan does it with ease and looks so easy..kobe even fucking fell down while doing the jordan finger wave thats how dumb he is
OMG that sequence at 3:10 just made my jaw drop. He owned 4 Suns players there before dishing it like Magic. That's gotta be one of his top 10 assists ever...if only Nesby had made the basket, but, that sort of symbolized his entire stint with the Wiz - the youngsters couldn't pick up the slack.
MJ proves that athleticism really means nothing and basketball fundamentals are still the core of any great player! His footwork and technique is absolutely second to none!! He mentally dominated. Before he even stepped out onto the court defenders were petrified...even at the age of 39-40. The younger players had twice the speed and athleticism at this stage, but MJ had ten times the knowledge and wisdom about the game!
There was another game vs the Bucks in which he absolutely KILLED Ray Allen. Ray Allen was quoted as saying that MJ should've stayed retired, and he was using him like I've never seen before or since. I don't think he reached the 30 pt mark, but he didn't have too.
i actually enjoy watching wizards jordan more than bulls jordan- call me crazy- but i love watching the old master rely on his guile and technique to outplay younger , faster, bigger more atheltic players. as a wizard he shows his complete mastery of the technical and mental aspects of the game.
@slantone i agree with you...people say he was washed up because he wasn't high-flying, but that's ridiculous. he was still one of the best defenders, play-makers, and scorers in the game until he retired. i loved watching his wizard games (pun intended) because it was almost flawless...he never made mistakes. they were calculated and it seemed like he was just enjoying himself with nothing to prove...just playing the game.
24.9ppg through 48 games. Which went down only because of injury and tired legs from an 82 game season. Makes you wonder how much more young Jordan would have averaged without that 3 second def rule. haha that is a funny statement. sounds like they are all little kids couldnt handle something slightly harsh and they are traumatized and never got better. if they are that mentally weak they really dont deserve to play basketball.
and imo they are definitely lack of talent and i am not surprised the wizards didnt make the playoff even with mj in. and obviously i could understand why mj were so pissed off throughout the whole season.
Best part of his HOF speech, when he was saying we might see a 50 yr old on the court. Everyone thier started laughing and he said don't laugh. Their is the motivation for the greatest. I miss this guy schooling all these other punks. Simply put THE GREATEST!
Yeah, I've heard all the apologists trying to defend that speach. Sorry, it was petty and beneath a man of his stature, and I'm a huge MJ fan.
Listen to the other speaches, unanimously they thanked their children, told them that they loved them, and generally expressed joy at their existence.
But for MJ, the only aspect of his kids' life worthy of discussion was a barely cogent expression of pity. Sorry, you guys aren't as good as me, sucks to be you.
I'm not saying anything about his character, I just liked that part because as you most likely know, it came after his whole part on motivation and doubters.
I did find it odd that he did say that to his kids. But hey I don't care about his life off the court. I just want him in a jersey again.
Do you even remember the psyche of the Wizards BEFORE Jordan started playing? They were the equivalent of the Clippers but in the East. Jordan turned everything around. The younger players bitched, but they were the ones that were cancer. If they played as smart and as hard as Jordan, they could of made the conference finals in the East that season.
I know that, have you even read what I've written? Jordan struggled with the Wiz, coz his teammates wanted to be stars, and they resented him for all the glory the media bestowed upon him. RIP and Stack specifically. It's not Jordan's fault his team sucked, they weren't ready when Jordan pushed them to excel. Too bad MJ's body just quit on him when he forced it.
Look, Jordan was a basketball genius. He just needed teammates who could put up with him. And those Wizard bunch just couldn't.
it wasnt jordan who is too harsh. it is that attitude of those new guys created the problem.i remember following the whole season watching most of the game i could and the youngsters never learned and always failed in the 4th quarters. it was just frustrating to watch.
Great video hoops - been wanting to see this one for years.
In my opinion, the 2001-02 wizards had less talent but were a better team than the 02-03 team. They played with a lot of heart and were about 4th in the east at the allstar break and would've made the playoffs if Jordan didnt get injured.
As for whether MJ made his team worse - the wizards only won 19 games in 2000-01 before he came back. In 2001-02 they won 37 and MJ only played 60 games. Obviously MJ made them A LOT better!
really? Because i think he made Richard Hamilton's career. One year with Mj and suddenly hes a high profile player known to have the best mid-range game in the league. Kwame just flat out sucked and Stackhouse was as good as he ever was playing alongside MJ, it was more age and the fact that most of his game was running into people and getting calls that led to his precipitous downfall after MJ.Who else was hurt by playing with MJ? Larry Hughes went on to have a good career. Who did he hurt?
I bought a book about MJ's 2 years with the Wizards. When Nothing Else Matters by Washington Post reporter Michael Leahy. You should check that out. It may be a little harsh on him, but it's an excellent look at MJ's struggle with the Wizards. I must get it back from my friend. I highly recommend that title to all Jordan fans!
After you read that book, you'll know what I'm talking about. And I'm the biggest Jordan fan this side of the planet.
Nice up! and do you have the 30 pt game when he killed Ruben Patterson? I think you mentioned you had it Hoops, I remember he was embarrassing the entire Blazers team back then, specially a prime Ruben Patterson.
lol ruben patterson is another example of cocky bastard with no skill and brain, which is pretty common among the league now. of course mj would embarrass him.
Jordan alienated his teammates in the Wizards coz of his Alpha male personality. But really, some of the new guys over there back then just wanted to be stars immediately, foregoing hardwork. Kwame, Stack, RIP all withered under Jordan's personality. Kwame's a fluke anyways.
He made a mistake returning and picking the Wizards to boot. But his occasional spurt of brilliance during those times stand on its own imo. For me it didn't tarnish his legacy, it merely humanized him a little bit more.
The fact remains that the team's record improved. They didn't make it to the playoffs, especially with his injuries, but team was certainly better with him than without him. I'm pretty sure that most of those players were able to take something valuable from him, regardless if they are no longer in the NBA or not.
You said that he completely ruined the team those two years. When he signed on their record improved, that is by no means Jordan ruining the Wizards. He also taught some of those players (not all) some good lessons, and that is a evident from the players I mentioned earlier.
You just named 2 players. Go ahead and name the rest. Whoever you name won't even be relevant. Kwame, Lue, etc.
Again, if you read, I said half the players. Did I say ALL the players? So how does you naming two players in any way shape or form, refute my argument? You don't have to explain what is sarcasm and what is not, I'm not a kid, like most of you here.

Jordan was great, but no one wants to admit that he completely ruined the Wizards those two years. Hell, half those players aren't even in the LEAGUE now. He instilled nothing of value into their basketball culture, and they weren't even relevant again until Arenas was drafted.
haha arena that cocky bastard who is ultra efficient? i agree he has some heart to play ball but he is lame in my opinion.
i didnt follow the wizard after jordan is gone so correct me if i am wrong. but i think most of the wizards(except for a few left) during the jordan time were traded when arena came into the team, i mean it was a different team and yes i agree that arena didnt have the burden jordan had since we have all seen how great he was, and i do agree jordan age didnt help.(cont)
what i want to say is that the wizard jordan had was a garbage team with a few players who could actually played but were also too chicken shit. to even blame jordan for ruining the team is too absurd to say.
We don't have to imagine, we've SEEN it. Unless you mean what he could specifically do to Marion, but why does that matter, we've seen him do it to defensive legends in the 90s.
Thank you for posting the highlights of this game hoops! You are the man. I have always wanted to see a better quality version of the final shot along with the game that led to that point. The only version on youtube was of bad quality.
I believe it was the following game where MJ hurt himself and the season went downhill from there on. But you can see through 50 games he was putting up 25/6/5. At age 39. In a tougher defensive league than what we've seen since '05.
why dont MJ join legends all star tour... im sure many players from around the world will be inspired playing with him..
like here in the philippines.. the legends visited us, guys like.. jabbaar, Dominique Wilkins, Tim Hardaway, Vlade Divac and Robert Horry..damn if MJ was there.. wow that was supper wow..
man come on now !!!this guy defies the laws of aging...u notice his rpg (6.3) and ast per game(about 5) are as gud as his career average !!.....u gotta love no. 23
He didn't really age super well. It's just that when you are so much better than everyone else, even your "twilight of your career" stage looks really good.
If a young Jordan was playing in today's league, Bryant would be a mere afterthought.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
yeah thats why the standing of the wizards team was 26-23.. dumbass compare kobe when he's 39 years old.. kobe is better than jordan.. everyone knows that.. because kobe defeated jordan in stats.. but im not saying that kobe is the best player all time.. its still mj.. now kobe then after maybe lebron..
I know he finished the season at 23, 6, and 5. But had he not gotten injured MJ would have finished the season averaging 25 ppg, 6rpg, 5apg and almost 2 steals AT 39 YEARS OLD!
MJ at almost 40 years old did what Kobe is doing as a 31 year old.
How anyone can compare Kobe to this man is mind boggling.
@TyroneNBAFan cause thier idiots and its mostly new yound punks kids who never seen real basketball in the 80s and 90's they r watchingf this water down shit and think kobe is awesome because someone name jordan is old and retire. kobe cant do this shit and age 40..and i would like to se kobe retire 3 times and come back and still do this
@TyroneNBAFan cause Kobe still has played more regular season games idiot. Kobe came in the league at 17 and has played non-stop for 15 years. MJ came in when he was 21 and took years off during his career which in turn saved his legs. Not saying Kobe is better than MJ, but can we please stop bringing up Kobe in every MJ video trying to bash the guy? Fuck!!
lol for all those guys that say labron and kobey blah blah blah, ok no one denies it, labron and kobe are good ballers, but common their not like mj, if u young fellas woulda remembered jordan playing back in the days u woulda known,mj used to pull up meracles , way more then anyone nba player has,Jordan is as perfect as a human being can be at basketball, common at his age who does this stuff? tell me? so from now on to put labron in a argument, u can say labron is the next kobey lol but not mj

I think you mentioned you had it Hoops, I remember he was embarrassing the entire Blazers team back then, specially a prime Ruben Patterson.
andgar923 2 years ago
lol ruben patterson is another example of cocky bastard with no skill and brain, which is pretty common among the league now. of course mj would embarrass him.
popeyeisgood 2 years ago
Oh yeah, I remember we spoke about that game. Do you remember other details about that game so I can pinpoint it? My memory is getting fuzzy.
hoopsencyclopedia 2 years ago
I just remembered he dropped around 30 pts in a close game and dominated in the 4th.
Can't remember any specifics, except for a lob dunk. Which really wasn't spectacular but still nice for an old man.
andgar923 2 years ago
Jordan alienated his teammates in the Wizards coz of his Alpha male personality. But really, some of the new guys over there back then just wanted to be stars immediately, foregoing hardwork. Kwame, Stack, RIP all withered under Jordan's personality. Kwame's a fluke anyways.
He made a mistake returning and picking the Wizards to boot. But his occasional spurt of brilliance during those times stand on its own imo. For me it didn't tarnish his legacy, it merely humanized him a little bit more.

I wish Michael didn't come back to the Wizards. But it was great to see him come back and play. He still got game.

The fact remains that the team's record improved. They didn't make it to the playoffs, especially with his injuries, but team was certainly better with him than without him. I'm pretty sure that most of those players were able to take something valuable from him, regardless if they are no longer in the NBA or not.

Sometimes...but not all time .
aznace15 2 years ago
No player who comes onto a team is going to be able to bring no-names into something greater.
aznace15 2 years ago
You said that he completely ruined the team those two years. When he signed on their record improved, that is by no means Jordan ruining the Wizards. He also taught some of those players (not all) some good lessons, and that is a evident from the players I mentioned earlier.
aznace15 2 years ago
O, you mean like Rip Hamilton, Frank Garrett? Jerry Stackhouse? Yeah you're right...no one on the team learned anything. That's sarcasm by the way.
aznace15 2 years ago

FrankGarrett316 2 years ago
haha arena that cocky bastard who is ultra efficient? i agree he has some heart to play ball but he is lame in my opinion.
i didnt follow the wizard after jordan is gone so correct me if i am wrong. but i think most of the wizards(except for a few left) during the jordan time were traded when arena came into the team, i mean it was a different team and yes i agree that arena didnt have the burden jordan had since we have all seen how great he was, and i do agree jordan age didnt help.(cont)
popeyeisgood 2 years ago
what i want to say is that the wizard jordan had was a garbage team with a few players who could actually played but were also too chicken shit. to even blame jordan for ruining the team is too absurd to say.
popeyeisgood 2 years ago 2
LOOK WHAt he did to Marion, Imagine if MJ was 28 and not 38 ooooo the chills
sopa71479 2 years ago
We don't have to imagine, we've SEEN it. Unless you mean what he could specifically do to Marion, but why does that matter, we've seen him do it to defensive legends in the 90s.

By the way, Jordan PWNED Shawn Marrion during his whole comeback. Just another testament to his greatness!!!

February 15th, 2002.
I cannot begin to tell you how fortunate I felt to be at this game. This was the greatest birthday present I have ever received.
An old friend and I attended. Our seats weren't anything special. Up high. But we had a great view.
There were many fans with Jordan jerseys at this game and it was no surprise to hear them rejoicing when MJ hit that shot.
I had been watching him since 1986 and it took until 2002 for me to see a live game winner from him.
Thank you, MJ.

I believe it was the following game where MJ hurt himself and the season went downhill from there on. But you can see through 50 games he was putting up 25/6/5. At age 39. In a tougher defensive league than what we've seen since '05.
Thanks for the game, hoops.
SPMJ 2 years ago
tougher defensive league lol u cant even hand check for cryin out loud...jus better athletes

I think he's talking about how they really got strict on perimeter defense since the start of the 04-05 season.

1:44 Unbelievable stats !!!!!! He was 39 !!!!!
after 48 games
24.9 ppg, 6.1Rpg, 5.3 Apg !!!! WOW !!
Don't want to start Kobe-comparisons but this is just to show you how unbelievable these stats are .
KB 2008/2009 :
26.8 PPG, 5.2 RPG, 4.9 APG !!!!!
triklops 2 years ago 7
man come on now !!!this guy defies the laws of aging...u notice his rpg (6.3) and ast per game(about 5) are as gud as his career average !!.....u gotta love no. 23
Rohitevelmathew 2 years ago 4
Because asst is about decision (basketball IQ), and rebound is about positioning.
PAZ0619 2 years ago
true true...and its a given fact tht when jordan is on th floor theres barely anyone who can play smarter basketball
Rohitevelmathew 2 years ago
He didn't really age super well. It's just that when you are so much better than everyone else, even your "twilight of your career" stage looks really good.
If a young Jordan was playing in today's league, Bryant would be a mere afterthought.

yeah thats why the standing of the wizards team was 26-23.. dumbass compare kobe when he's 39 years old.. kobe is better than jordan.. everyone knows that.. because kobe defeated jordan in stats.. but im not saying that kobe is the best player all time.. its still mj.. now kobe then after maybe lebron..
boara1 2 years ago
And in what stat did Kobe actually defeat MJ ??
triklops 2 years ago
yeah i d like an insight on this one too...wat stat did kobe defeat michael in ??

More field goal attemps.
giancarlovl 2 years ago
LOL, EXACTLY!
That sh*t blew my mind when I saw that.
TyroneNBAFan 2 years ago 46
@TyroneNBAFan cause thier idiots and its mostly new yound punks kids who never seen real basketball in the 80s and 90's they r watchingf this water down shit and think kobe is awesome because someone name jordan is old and retire. kobe cant do this shit and age 40..and i would like to se kobe retire 3 times and come back and still do this
Taywarit13 1 year ago
@TyroneNBAFan cause Kobe still has played more regular season games idiot. Kobe came in the league at 17 and has played non-stop for 15 years. MJ came in when he was 21 and took years off during his career which in turn saved his legs. Not saying Kobe is better than MJ, but can we please stop bringing up Kobe in every MJ video trying to bash the guy? Fuck!!
bigh92591 11 months ago
@TyroneNBAFan shut ur bitch ass up kobe barely tries these days he can average 35 if he wants
