  • I love the record store ad :)

  • therobz: You haven't lost your mind. KMEL was "Camel 106 - an Album Oriented Rock (AOR) station for about 5 years before it went Top 40. DJs on the "Camel" format included Alex Bennett (later on the Quake & Live 105), and Tony Kilbert. Not hard rock, exactly, but not Top 40 either

  • Awesome! i loved Music from the 80s! in the name of Love by U2 was released in 84! well done and released in 84! No wonder its on the radio! Wow that was 26 years ago!

  • 25 years ago today

  • WOW cool it now a new realease promo huh lol nostalgic!

  • Wow, KMEL was really cool back then.

  • Yeah, KMEL was a standard Top 40 station at that time. Today's KMEL certainly wouldn't play U2 or Ray Parker, Jr.

  • @therobz Weird... I must be losing my mind because I remember KMEL as the Hard Rock Station in the Bay Area at this time. I can see U2, but I never would have guessed they played any Ray Parker Jr. I heard they changed to Rap/R&B a few years later, which I thought was pretty ironic.

  • @djJackMF You're not losing your mind. KMEL was an Album Rock station in the late 1970s and early 1980s, before switching to CHR, and then later becoming Rhythmic CHR.

  • @therobz Okay thanks. It's one of those questions I notice I have to ask myself frequently as I get older.

  • @therobz True you are..I remember KMEL began to lean more rhythmic in the second half of 1986. Thats right around the time Hot Hits 105 KITS went modern rock and KFRC ceased to exist as a top 40 station..the fall of 1986 was a horrible time for CHR radio in San Francisco.
