I am not a professional or noting close to it, but what is being presented in this video make much sense when you look at human history before industry. where hunters and other groups had days they couldn't find food and in does food less day could be considered fasting the human body is made to go far with little food. (so fasting is actually a natural function that would have happen if we didn't live in the modern days wear food is easily assemble.

@NotThinYet Fasting is for people who have excess fat. Fat is what will fuel your body while fasting. If you have problems with anorexia, then you shouldnt fast. Its not an excuse, its just crazy.

You are 99% correct. The only thing you are wrong about is saying that carbohydrates are a preferred fuel source. They are not. They are a non-essential macronutrient.

So basically Fasting just means you're voluntarily starving yourself. I have a friend who observes Ramadan and they only fast between certain hours. I just don't see how NOT EATING FOR WEEKS ON END, is healthy, voluntarily or not.
Hello, I found your video really inspiring. I began fasting at the beginning of this month and I feel so much energy and a real spring in my step and mental clarity. My intention to fast was spiritual and led. It makes me feel rejuvenated and really good and I find that meditation and prayer is more intense. I honestly don't see why people fast for things other than RELIGIOUS BELIEFS! The body is a beautiful machine and on it's own without fasting gets rid of all these "unwanted toxins". HELLO good 'ole liver. Now to go on a sugar, salt or fat diet would be a huge benefit for a lot of people. These things are bad for anyone in excess and taking a break from them will only add to one's health and well being.

@Philipz777 fasting is not always for weightloss but if it is, some people find it easier than "dieting". its a tangible "divorce" as it were from food, to completely restart your life more healthily than before. on longer fasts, because you go so long without food, some psychological ties people have with food get broken. food is not for comfort, to stop you from being bored or whatever, and by fasting you can stop a lot of these habits.

@Philipz777 Have you ever smoked, tried drugs, eat candy with intense artificial colors? All that is not only stuck in one's fat deposits but also in liver and kidneys. Eating healthy does not get rid of all that unfortunately. The side effects like headaches, fatique, restlesness, depression and anxiety is actually toxins/drug withdrawal from the system. Which will go away eventually on its own!! After that the life becomes enjoyable. Many people misinterpret the word "healthy"

Great informative video and one question. For an individual that hasn't done any official fasting, is it a wise idea to do the first fasting session for 3 days (with water or homemade vegetable based broths or stock)?
After that first fasting, of course re-nourish my body gently for maybe 3 days and then go on another 5 day fast and then start feeding my body gently.

I'd do this the only thing that would stop me is hunger pains. they are quite painful and you almost feel nausious!! I get that alot at school because i wont eat in the morning and have to wait til lunch to eat. AND seeing other people eat food i'd be like uhmmm hungry! Yes, it is still ok to fast! Just be sure to pay attention to your body. Most people feel like they are starving for the first1-3 days and then all thoughts of food go away. It is like the tummy just turns off..lol. Then, when it is time to stop the fast your tummy will turn back on. When you notice you are starting to feel hungry again...stop! Some people will feel this after only 5-6 days while others can go much longer. You might even want to look into liquid fasting.
Also, many people through the Bible fast who were in optimal health. I am currently doing the Daniel Fast found in Daniel chapter 1 and chapter 10. I have also done liquid fasts for very long periods. This is great for though of us who are unable to to do a water fast for different reasons. When doing a liquid fast I still drink fruit and vegetable juice as well as homemade chicken stock or beef broth. Make sure they are homemade or natural organic. The idea is to remove toxins.

@alecscar07 You will be hungry for the first day or so but then it will completely disappear. this could be anywhere from a few days to several weeks. When the hunger returns...stop the fast! Be sure to always break a fast slowly. Eat healthy none mean soft foods at first and slowly introduce more solids and meats.

this is not healthy. You body needs healthy foods. either eat on a regular schedule and just eat smaller amounts or make the choice to do a real fast. Do not try to stay in the middle for a long time. You could end up malnourished.
i fast for religious reasons and some weight loss does happen. however, losing weight slowly is still the best way. 5lb a month would be better goal. Good luck!

@MsJessyRF1988 its only starvation if you dont have reserves of energy(fat) to be used up. research has shown that certain vitamins are stocked up so that if a prolonged period of fasting occurs our body's have reserves to use up.

anorexia is a choice to deprive yourself from food therefore "fasting" is just another word for anorexia. This is based on your definition of fasting. face the facts.
The muscles are consumed preferentially by the body when there is no food intake. So, before you lose any fat at all, your muscle mass will decline and you will become weaker and weaker. And, your metabolism will slow down. That means when you start to eat again, the food will store fat more readily than before the fast occurred. . Yes, fat will be consumed when your muslces are weak and depleted. You are not a good advert for fasting kid. You look quite plump to me. Try a bit more sex instead.

I am planning a 40day juice and water fast. More water than juice. I will start Ash Wen.Feb.17,2010. and end Palm Sunday March28,2010, my 31stBirthday. With a week of preparing and a week of weening before and after with vegtables. I did one day in last Sept., the day of Atonement. 2day last week. I think I will do10days starting this week. and maybe another 10in Jan. to prepare myself. I heard that 1day a week is not good cause it can make you gain weight in the long run. How often are yours?

Thankyou for sharing :-) I did a three day waterfast but I started of with two days of juicing to prepare myself physically and mentally. After the waterfast I did the juicing again before I was ready to actually 'eat'. I don't call this starvation either! I did not prolong the fasting until I was hungry. I read that after three days your hunger goes away but I did not feel hungry at my three days fast either! Do you know a reason for that?

@missscosmogirl not if you re-introduce food properly. begin with fruit and vegetable juices for 3-7 days. then fruits and veggies. don't eat dairy right away, and then embark on a healthy, balanced lifestyle and you should be fine. you will probably gain back like 2 pounds but don't be alarmed that is normal. i speak from experience. hope that helps :)
I fast for 1 day every week. I don't work out with heavy weights on that day, but I do some training with light weights to create lactic acid which will help preserve muscle and burn off fat. it also helps with ,my insulin levels

i fast from 5 in the morning to 8 at night (no water) and its actually bad for a fat person to fast because when your body becomes hungry it stores fat so it can consume it later so youd have to starve yourself for any real results, your supposed to eat alot of small meals throughout the day if u want to lose weight just stop being retarded and eat food that you can tell is healthy and only eat when your hungry

I fasted way too much and developed a binge eating dissorder when I started eating again.
It's like my body was so tired of being deprived food that it demanded I eat everything in sight.
So I don't know if fasting is a good idea for overweight people, as they probably have issues with their appetite already, and fasting could just make that a lot worse.
If anybody is curious about fasting try it because there are benefits from fasting from God. All your have to do is not eat, smoke, sex, from sunrise to sunset. It is spiritually cleansing process and looking for forgiveness from God from past sins. You need everything from God to beat the new world order.

Thank you for this. It really motivated me to Continue on with my fast. I was skeptical listening to everyone say that it is starvation. it feels good for someone else to see it my way. Jesus certainly did fast. I start Monday 01/16/2011. My new years resolution is to lose 100lbs. I also suffer from Edema in my lower extremities, and I hear it is good for healing that. I'm pumped and ready to go! 60 day fast here i come!

I don't know if any of you are christian but fasting is meant to go hand in hand with prayer. I have done the 40 day fast twice. Fasting isn't a joke. Don't play with it.
Do it in secret and wash your face and anoint yourself with oil so that it is not obvious that you are fasting. Completing a fast is very uplifting and rewarding!

I honestly don't see why people fast for things other than RELIGIOUS BELIEFS! The body is a beautiful machine and on it's own without fasting gets rid of all these "unwanted toxins". HELLO good 'ole liver. Now to go on a sugar, salt or fat diet would be a huge benefit for a lot of people. These things are bad for anyone in excess and taking a break from them will only add to one's health and well being.

@Philipz777 fasting is not always for weightloss but if it is, some people find it easier than "dieting". its a tangible "divorce" as it were from food, to completely restart your life more healthily than before. on longer fasts, because you go so long without food, some psychological ties people have with food get broken. food is not for comfort, to stop you from being bored or whatever, and by fasting you can stop a lot of these habits.
and lastly, fasting is very good for you!

@Philipz777 Have you ever smoked, tried drugs, eat candy with intense artificial colors? All that is not only stuck in one's fat deposits but also in liver and kidneys. Eating healthy does not get rid of all that unfortunately. The side effects like headaches, fatique, restlesness, depression and anxiety is actually toxins/drug withdrawal from the system. Which will go away eventually on its own!! After that the life becomes enjoyable. Many people misinterpret the word "healthy"

Great informative video and one question. For an individual that hasn't done any official fasting, is it a wise idea to do the first fasting session for 3 days (with water or homemade vegetable based broths or stock)?
After that first fasting, of course re-nourish my body gently for maybe 3 days and then go on another 5 day fast and then start feeding my body gently.
Is this method safe?

@hkdiva2015 NO, it is not safe anytime you fast you are causing your body to go into starvation mode and your body starts eating off itself. It is not wise if you are trying to lose weight ask your doctor. Do it healthy. Eating a well balanced diet with moderate exercise is all you need

Oh God Girl. I wish I saw this video about 4 days ago! I Started fasting. Pondering doing a juice fast as well. my question for you though... How do I get past the hunger pangs? I've heard that day 3 is the "hump" but I'm still experiencing hunger. Could I do some kind of mental prep for it. Or just ignore it and keep chuggin' the water?

I'd do this the only thing that would stop me is hunger pains. they are quite painful and you almost feel nausious!! I get that alot at school because i wont eat in the morning and have to wait til lunch to eat. AND seeing other people eat food i'd be like uhmmm hungry! Lol I'd say to my self "hey an apple wont make me fat" but it just defeats the whole fasting thing. The only thing i've fasted for is blood tests

Yes, it is still ok to fast! Just be sure to pay attention to your body. Most people feel like they are starving for the first1-3 days and then all thoughts of food go away. It is like the tummy just turns off..lol. Then, when it is time to stop the fast your tummy will turn back on. When you notice you are starting to feel hungry again...stop! Some people will feel this after only 5-6 days while others can go much longer. You might even want to look into liquid fasting.

Also, many people through the Bible fast who were in optimal health. I am currently doing the Daniel Fast found in Daniel chapter 1 and chapter 10. I have also done liquid fasts for very long periods. This is great for though of us who are unable to to do a water fast for different reasons. When doing a liquid fast I still drink fruit and vegetable juice as well as homemade chicken stock or beef broth. Make sure they are homemade or natural organic. The idea is to remove toxins.

fasting is not just for fat people! For everyone I mean children too. I wont to do my fasting to clean my body of tocsins. In my country ( Urkaine,Russian) we have clinics of fasting and a lot of people do fasting at home. I will fasting in couple days ( need bay some staff ) My first fasting will be 1 week. After I go out of fasting I will start onother fasting for 2 weeks and after that I will do for 32 days.

i am a muslim and i have to fast during ramadon, and sometimes on mondays and thursdays because those were the days the prophet fasted. i believe that jesus fasted and moses. i dont think its unhealthy, why would it be a religious thing where in almost all the religions do it if its bad, because i dont think god would put it into religion if it was bad.

@alecscar07 You will be hungry for the first day or so but then it will completely disappear. this could be anywhere from a few days to several weeks. When the hunger returns...stop the fast! Be sure to always break a fast slowly. Eat healthy none mean soft foods at first and slowly introduce more solids and meats.

im not fasting to lose weight i just eat lunch and then dinner but drink alot of water. i lost 5 pounds the first week but then that lovely gift every teenage girl gets everymonth came so as of the moment im back to were i started (because when ur on ur period u can gain weight but when ur done it goes away) so im gonna try to keep losong weight and hopfully when the week is over ill be atleast 7 pounds thiner. do u think this is a good method? im trying to lose 20 pounds in 2 months.any idea?

this is not healthy. You body needs healthy foods. either eat on a regular schedule and just eat smaller amounts or make the choice to do a real fast. Do not try to stay in the middle for a long time. You could end up malnourished.
i fast for religious reasons and some weight loss does happen. however, losing weight slowly is still the best way. 5lb a month would be better goal. Good luck!

I don't think you should be drinking distilled water.
Also distilled water in the supermarket is used to put in irons.Hinkley and Shmitt have Spring water and distilled water that is made through evaporation and not filtered water through a filter.
Besides that , GOGirl!! Water fasting if done right is wonderful.

"Fasting is an act of will" and "starving is an imposition of fate". While psychologically there is a difference, physically there is not. Your body will not know the difference. Starvation is a severe reduction in vitamin, nutrient and energy intake. It is the most extreme form of malnutrition. Starvation mode can set in anywhere from 3 days to a week so whether you are choosing to not eat or not you are essentially starving your body.

Anorexia is an eating disorder characterized by distorted body image and an obsessive fear of gaining weight.
A fast is a rational choice, usually for health benefits or religious/ philosophical reasons.
That said, people can become addicted to fasting, even though it's not Anorexia, it's still a disorder of some nature.
I'm considering fasting to try and shake off the shackles of my unhealthy diet and excessive drinking.

The muscles are consumed preferentially by the body when there is no food intake. So, before you lose any fat at all, your muscle mass will decline and you will become weaker and weaker. And, your metabolism will slow down. That means when you start to eat again, the food will store fat more readily than before the fast occurred. . Yes, fat will be consumed when your muslces are weak and depleted. You are not a good advert for fasting kid. You look quite plump to me. Try a bit more sex instead.

When you fast, your body goes into ''starvation mode'' and your metabolism slows down. Actually your body consumes itself in order to sustain the vital body functions. However (and this is important) your body consumes lean muscle tissue preferentally over fat tissue and so anyone who uses fasting as a method of weight loss is making a very big mistake.
Of course women are particularly prone to fad diets and cultish beliefs about ''magical'' ways to become slim so I expect them to ignore this.

I am planning a 40day juice and water fast. More water than juice. I will start Ash Wen.Feb.17,2010. and end Palm Sunday March28,2010, my 31stBirthday. With a week of preparing and a week of weening before and after with vegtables. I did one day in last Sept., the day of Atonement. 2day last week. I think I will do10days starting this week. and maybe another 10in Jan. to prepare myself. I heard that 1day a week is not good cause it can make you gain weight in the long run. How often are yours?

Thankyou for sharing :-) I did a three day waterfast but I started of with two days of juicing to prepare myself physically and mentally. After the waterfast I did the juicing again before I was ready to actually 'eat'. I don't call this starvation either! I did not prolong the fasting until I was hungry. I read that after three days your hunger goes away but I did not feel hungry at my three days fast either! Do you know a reason for that?

@missscosmogirl not if you re-introduce food properly. begin with fruit and vegetable juices for 3-7 days. then fruits and veggies. don't eat dairy right away, and then embark on a healthy, balanced lifestyle and you should be fine. you will probably gain back like 2 pounds but don't be alarmed that is normal. i speak from experience. hope that helps :)

I fast for 1 day every week. I don't work out with heavy weights on that day, but I do some training with light weights to create lactic acid which will help preserve muscle and burn off fat. it also helps with ,my insulin levels

i fast from 5 in the morning to 8 at night (no water) and its actually bad for a fat person to fast because when your body becomes hungry it stores fat so it can consume it later so youd have to starve yourself for any real results, your supposed to eat alot of small meals throughout the day if u want to lose weight just stop being retarded and eat food that you can tell is healthy and only eat when your hungry

but you should realize that fasting does have a pretty dangerously powerful effect on your appetite.
I fasted way too much and developed a binge eating dissorder when I started eating again.
It's like my body was so tired of being deprived food that it demanded I eat everything in sight.
So I don't know if fasting is a good idea for overweight people, as they probably have issues with their appetite already, and fasting could just make that a lot worse.

If anybody is curious about fasting try it because there are benefits from fasting from God. All your have to do is not eat, smoke, sex, from sunrise to sunset. It is spiritually cleansing process and looking for forgiveness from God from past sins. You need everything from God to beat the new world order.
