  • Excellent job man! I really enjoyed your tone. Congrats!

  • Well Done James! Some of my students have to study the marcello sonata this semester, And I'm posting this video for them!

  • this is a beautiful piece i played this for my solo and honsomble last weekend. at 3:00, i decided to play it like you and my judge said he liked it. i got one with honors, im sure you would to, you play this very well

  • Congratulations teacher, Irina is my piano teacher, jaja

  • Wow!!!! You are great! I'm trying to reherse this as a NYSSMA solo on tenor trombone. I only hope it can be this good. So, when is International Trombone Week anyway?

  • xehanortstudent, you live in NJ? me too! are you tryinig out on bass clarinet or alto clarinet? i think the piece is the same for both right?

  • Ya it's the same I only tried out on bass and got into the orchestra for central new jersey regions im trying out for all state tomorrow :D

  • This is my tryout piece for region band its not difficult i would advise learning the rhythms very well and not speeding up in the allegro section

  • you live in cali?

i have the same thing for honors there

  • Nah i live in New Jersey honors wind ensemble

  • very nice I get to play this this Saturday for the State solo competition. I'll hopefully get a video up of it sometime this summer

  • i played this on a bass clarinet (first movement) for an audition into a youth band... and i got in! :) now trying to play the second and third movement well. planning to play this for a school exam.

  • Is this very complicated to play on the bass clarinet? For my honors band I am trying out on Arabesque for clarinet and im thinking of trying out on bass clarinet as well. The solo would be this song. Bass clarinet is not something I normally play and I have played it once before for a district band. What is around the highest note in the song?

  • You must be in pmea district 5! I also am and am trying out on bass clarinet; the highest note is middle A sharp. The lowest is low E. it is not that hard actually, the temp for the majority of it is about quarter note = 84, the beginning is about eighth note = 72. It's exactly like this recording.

  • haha yea I am. Thanks so much. I hate tryouts I wish we could just skip them and go straight to the festival part.

  • Yeah, I know!

  • me too! except I'm going for contra-alto clarinet. It's like the bass..but bigger. Same piece of music though.

  • I play the contra-alto as well it is a rlly cool instrument. Still trying to get my hands on a contra-bass lol

  • Omg, my friend plays the contra-bass, it's soooo cool! It's about a half a foot bigger I think, maybe a foot.

  • heya! nope, it's not hard to play on bass clarinet. there are no high registers at all, and dynamics are quite easy. as long as you give it enough practice, it will sound really good! plus this piece can show off the beautiful rich/thick sound quality of the bass clarinet!

  • idk if this would still be any help at all seeing as it's been 4 months but I have the bass clarinet part in my hand and it only goes to a B so it's not bad at all. the hardest part is the articulations.

  • Concert A above the staff (bass clef)

  • its not that hard

i sight read it in about three days

  • if it took you three days to sight read it than it's not really sight reading lol

  • well i got it in class and spent maybe 5-8 minutes practicing it each day id amount that to 3 days work

  • i played this on the double bass. it was hard but fun

  • do you know where i can find a recording with the bass?

  • no, sorry. i myself am having trouble finding a bass recording

  • I'm a euphonium player doing this solo for a festival. Very beautiful! As a euphonium player while I am often in the upper register, I love the opportunity to play in that lower rich register.

    Lovely!

  • Trilling on trombone! That's awesome!! Sorry, just had to say that. I like this solo, I'll have to look into it in my own octave. Thank you!

  • this is good....but why r u playing down an octave....and its really fast

  • I'm playing the piece down an octave to bring out the true beauty of the bass trombone sound. Performing in the tenor trombone octave would, while absolutely possible, be counterproductive to the whole concept of the bass trombone. This octave puts it in the most beautiful baritone register of the instrument.

  • thats cool....i just never heard it like that but it sounds good...you have a beautiful low register....and to play this down the octave is not an easy task...congrats

  • i ama fellow bass trombonist, and i must say, i agree completely sir!

    bass bone, hurrah!

  • @tbonemasta1 That's how fast it's supposed to be, and I think this piece was made originally for the String bass, cause I have the music, this is Fred Zimmermann's edition for String Bass, I believe that is why he chose this octave.

  • Im a sophmore in high school and im gunna play either this or blue bells o' scotland for S&E, is there a video that plays this in the upper octive?

  • There wasn't when I posted this, but there may be by now. If not, this is down exactly one octave so it is in the same key, and all the musical aspects should be pretty much the same.

  • he is playing all of it down the octave

  • Is he playing some of this down the octave?

  • i played this song in high school for solo and ensemble contest and i was nowhere near the accuracy of him and i played it on baritone

  • I like the 2nd accompanist at 1:14. Bravo Meador.

  • Hahaha! I know, I love the car horn blaring in the background. The recital hall is right next to one of the busiest streets in Merida!
