Have to agree with arso032, this is not an albanian dog. The owner is probably albanian, but the breed is Šarplaninac (literally translated - Sharr Mountain dog). These dogs are trained to be fearless and brave. If a dog shows fear, or hesitates in front of a wolf it mustn`t have any offspring so the genetic flaw wouldn`t be passed on..

Dogs are totally useless on their own. Oh, and my grandfathers were sheperds as well, when they were young. I've been raised in the country-side and I've heard all the stories about wolves. Plus, I've seen a very big wolf face to face, not more than 6 meters away from me. My point is this clip is irelevant. What is relevant is that wolves hunt, kill and eat dogs and in a straight, one on one encounter, an adult, healthy wolf is too much for a dog to handle, no matter the breed.

You obviously haven't seen true big wolves, as tall as foals and weighing 70 kgs or more. A single dog against a wolf like that is total crap, indeed dog-meat. We have some pretty big and fierce dogs in Romania, the most notorious of them is the Bucovina Sheperd Dog. Three adult and healthy wolves keep 10 Bucovina Sheperds at bay.

This is completely fake. The wolves were captive & sacrificed as were the sheep to make this film. The wolves were unafraid of the camera & crew ( no miniature cameras back then) & didn't know to kill a sheep quickly.

To clear up a few points further down about dogs killing wolves,both the Illyrian shepherd dog ( charplaninatz) & the turkish Kangal can & do kill wolves but these are not canadian or Alaskan wolves weighing over 100 lbs but a smaller sub species found in that area.

The protective collar is steel made collar with huge,steel spikes all around dog's neck and the wolf is unable to bite dogs neck. Yeah, wolves are great! They killed 36 lambs up here on the mountain in Wyoming i one night. Of course, they didn't eat any of them. It was really great to see a wolf pack killing a cow elk and her calf this past summer. Very fun! The wolves got the calf down first and then the cow. They were eating the calf while it was still living and its mother got to watch! I am sure she enjoyed it, though her guts were falling out and she didn't live long (lucky for her)  Wolves are great fun!
