Somebody has to show the other side of the coin, there are tons of patriotic songs that glorify America, come on, you don't think we have any faults or make mistakes, or think we should show the world that Yes we are aware of these shortcomings? Many of the worlds people hate America, there must be ongoing conversations between the countries to find a common ground and equality etc.

I'm proud to be an american! Some people must think we have the freedoms we have by letting others come take over. And now we have to take on the people in Washinton to make sure we don't lose them all but I wouldn't want to live anywhere else.
@mmtxaz What country are you living in if you cant criticize it? That is the strength for a democrazy to be able to say what you like without having people like you to say what people should say to be "good citizens".
You are walking a dangerous road with your way of thinking.
I am not an American but I love Jackson Browne´s music. I also like Springsteen and whoever like or dislike their country, it is not important.
Btw, In China, they are also asking for patriotic songs....
Ok, nicck. At least I understood you've never read any books Marx wrote. What Marx wrote is not the same as What Marxist have thought and done, like relationship between Buddha and Buddhist, Jesus and Christian.
Ohh ohh. conspiracy theorist....so Happymike - terrorists in Yemen never bombed the USS Cole? Saddam didn;t shoot at our jets? The Marine barracks were never bombed? Unemployment in the Bush years was 4.8 - better than Clinton - read up on it
The fact of the matter is, Bush went to war with Iraq over something that wasn't true. Doesn't that strike you as wrong? How many people have needlessly died because of it huh?
So Saddam was linked to the terrorists who bombed the USS Cole. Did Saddam shoot at U.S. jets? Was Saddam linked to the bombing of the Marine barracks (in Beirut, presumably?) Fact is, those who believed Bush and supported the attack on Iraq had a poorer score for knowing where Iraq is than those whose opposed the war. Bush lied repeatedly across many subjects. YOU read up on it.
ummm...No to Cole...yes to firing at US and British jets; No to Marine barracks...and as for lies - Saddam had a whole month to hide and move any weapons he had. Funny - he submitted his last inventory and it had banned items..then he kicked out inspectors. Israel has Sat photos of convoys of trucks moving weapons to Syria and a former General in Saddam's army claims all the weapons were moved. as far as lying - Obama has Bush beat and not even a year in office
Great song, hey? But the Republicans lied about Iraq, just as they're lying now about healthcare and Obama that "Nazi Communist" and the economy. If Saddam used his "whole month" to move any weapons he had, wouldn't the U.S. have pointed that out to a disbelieving world, and used the supposed Israel satellite photos (and its own not insignificant network) to prove it? Unless there were lots of cloudy days at that time. "Happymike44" is also spot on re: Republicans causing the Great Recession.
Right...keep drinking the kool aid, guys. 50 some worldwide intel agencies said Saddam had WMD's. Gore, CLinton, Kerry, Rockerfeller, etc signed a ltr to Bush saying he had WMD's. He had them - ask the Kurds he gassed. Even dead people aren't enough proof for some people. Recession - ask Barney Frank & Bil Clinton who forced lenders to loan to poor people...that is why the housing bubble burst...not Bush
Hey there, RasslinRic. Those agencies, (eg the US and the UK), have since admitted that they made huge errors, or were pressured by political pressure from Bush and Blair and co. Maybe we should also ask Rumsfeld, Saddam's pal in that 1980 photo, the same year that Reagan started dismantling the protections the US had built up the Great Depression. It's because Obama uses Keynesian theory, (also used to fix the Great Depression), that this has been "only" the Great Recession. "Forced" lenders?
That still doesn't dismiss the fact Saddam gassed innocent women and children...or invaded Kuwait...and it doesn't explain why no one called Clinton a liar when he sent jets to bomb Iraq over "WMD's"(Bush wasn't in office then so who pressured Bill?). It if it is all a lie than the dems and republicans were all in on it. Remember also - Bush wrote up NAFTA but Clinton signed it into law...both parties have screwed up this economy and I don;t trust either
Greetings, RR. I agree Saddam was a ruthless dictator, which might justify Clinton bombing his WMDs. But I understand that he had done his worst (with western help, including Dems AND Reps) well before Bush Jnr attacked. Also, I believed Nader and thought NAFTA was bad, but now I'm not so sure. Are you aware that since 1776, 50% of US govt debt has been caused by just 2 Presidents (the Bushes), and 75%, if you include Reagan? 25% of US households have 87% of the wealth. But Jackson Browne rocks!
Sure - treaties were broken with the native Americans but Canada did the same thing. Over the years a lot of shame and disgrace have befallen the nation(slavery, etc) - but that's no excuse to feel our country is not a great nation
Right because we are responsible for the wars between Russia and Afghanistan; Iran and Iraq; Arab nations and Israel. there will always be war as long as their is greed/oil and and radical religion called Islam that calls for the death of unbelievers. If anything - this current president is an illusion for saying he would end the wars...
@forty911 America is 5 times the nation you give it credit for being. The only reason there is as much peace, prosperity, and freedom on this planet as there is now is because of the USA.
@mtflesruoytsacdaorb-you didn't give him a chance to agree/contest the statement about the Nazi Communist thing. Stop vituperating and hear each other out!
U are clearly an asshole. The Republicans lied? The Dems were right onboard fuckhead, are you ignorant or just someone who lies in hope that nobody notice? 10.3% unemployment and growing, how the change working for ya?
Actually Happymike you are now in for less freedom and more govt. with the great Zero. His heroes are Marx and Lenin. If that's the kind of freedom you want pal that's what you are going to get. You are now Canada Lite and you are about to get socially worse. Your freedoms are going to be eroded and you are do dumbstruck you don't even realize it.
All your criticisms are on the mark, but I'd suggest a clarifying spelling change. What GWB waged was a war on Terra. (Don't think 'texas accent'; think 'Latin'.)

Marx and Lenins ideals were NEVER realised, and wont be. It's not possible. It shows how stupid you are that you look to the communist states of the 20th century as a description of what Marx and Lenin were on about, which is totally wrong.
If you knew what you were talking about you'd be dangerous..Marx only acknowledges the gap between rich and poor..Lenin tried to defend the poor..it was Stalin who took it all and used it for his own gain..the same Stalin we publicly approved of.
Will they really think their way of life Has been protected as the next war comes? I have prayed ...was made for America Her shining dream plays in my mind By the rockets' red glare A generation's blank stare We better wake her up this time The kid I was when I first left home Was looking for his freedom & a life of his own But the freedom that he found wasn't quite as sweet When the truth was known
As if I really didn't understand That I was just another part of their plan I went off looking for the promise Believing in the Motherland And from the comfort of a dreamer's bed And the safety of my own head I went out speaking of the future While other people fought and bled The kid I was when I first left home Was looking 4 his freedom & a life of his own But the freedom that found wasn't quite as sweet - When the truth was known We're going to reap what we have sown
Sir: The 9/11 path started when the United States decided to become an empire--60 years ago--which is now on steroids thanks to an idiot president who declared for the first time in our history that we have the right to declare war on nations that have never attacked us. Yeah, pal, you're right. Conservatives have succeeded brilliantly--gutting the middle class, fattening the rich, poverty and unemployment growing, $4/gallon gasoline, foreclosure and bankruptcies at record highs, savings at record lows, $11 trillion debt, a criminal war, international reputation in tatters, environmental degradation. God knows what might happen to this country with those dangerous liberals in charge.
9/11 is the foundation of all wrong with this country. The 9/1 path started in 1993. Jackson believe in us being free to live and think what we want.
Without fear of oppression and tyranny.
We have been in a dark age for 8 years with some luck we may finally be free of people reading our mail and listening in on our phone calls.
Jailing our citizens for their thoughts and deeds that disagreed with our government.
We are lucky we have any freedom after the last 8 years.

That man lied and has pushed almost every country into a depression.
Due to his war on terror and billions spent on people who aren't our citizens.
These were the action of a madman.
A man who enacted the patriot act while reading mail and listening to phone calls.
Yes these are the actions of a sane man who made used irrational fear to terrorize the population.
With Obama comes hope for a brighter future for our people and our country.
