The past two Omak Stampedes (08 & 09) have so far been the most successful stampedes to date and since Omak has built a new arena, I don't see it stopping anytime soon. People from all over Canada and the U.S. still come out to Omak every year to support it, it's quite a unique experience. There's pow wow's that go on all weekend on top of numerous of other events besides the Suicide Race. You have to understand the WHOLE picture, not just a part of it to get its full purpose & meaning.

I've owned horses MY entire life too Kelliefan, and I would never put them through something like that. I can tell when my horse is nervous, and horses get nervous at far lesser obstacles than that...perhaps you've given all your horses labotomies so they don't know they're plunging to their deaths?

I dont have horses that do this but my best friend does. An I can tell when my horse is nervous to. I breed QHs and train them on the barrels. I barrel race for a living. So I know my shit about horses. An what do you do. Ride little perfect show ponies.

Hell no do I ride in shows, I hate showing nearly as much as I hate Omak, at least you have to have some sort of talent to ride at Omak, no matter how wrong I think it is. I ride for pleasure and help with rescues.

my quater horse has never been taught barrel racing or running downhill either. but watching him in the field he walks up this steep hill stands there for a breif moment before going full gallop down it, without anyone on his back. i think they find it exhilirating. its very bizzare to watch. but he likes it.

have you kept quarter horses? i have a Quarter horse gelding and he absolutely loves running downhills and skipping around barrels, and i never taught or forced him that, he would walk up a steep hill in his feild.. snort and swish his tail and gallop full sprint down it a few times a day. he loves it.

I happen to have a Bachelors Degree in Equine Science UVM TYVM. Horses are gregarious and will follow the herd, when they are scared (when they are kicked and beaten to go forward as seen in the video, and as I witnessed with MY OWN EYES then they use the flight or fight instinct and try to run to get away from the stimulus. They run forward, and unfortunatly cannot run backwards up a hill carrying a rider so must go on ahead. If they tried to "stop" the momentum would cause them to flip over.

Then perhaps you would know that it's not their idea of fun, and if there was no rider on their back you can be sure as hell they wouldnt go flying off a steep incline only to drown themselves in a revine....

These races and a lot of rodeo'n have been goin on a lonnnggg time-& ALOT of critisizm is about the horses, poor horses right? & the people riding them are just crazy insane sickos-well it takes two to get down that hill & he's right, the horse would refuse to go down if he didn't want to. it aint that easy to just say do it and its done.& its not like they throw rookies down that hill either,the person aswell as the horse does intense training

Yeah, I did. But who really cares? That fact is, is that these horses DO IT. If the horses didn't want to do it, they would refused to go down the cliff. If they REALLY didn't want to--they wouldn't. They would throw the rider. These horses do it, ok? And they're not too exhausted...do you see them swimming?? I think they're fine and you're just dragging this on and on....

Did you see how these guys whip the horse? The horses slow down, only to get whipped on the but, face, neck, etc. If these animal are prepared for it, no one will lose their balance and the animal will land in the river all at once in the same spot. Now, just imagine how many go crashing into each other? Can a human hold their breath for 10 minutes? NO! Can you train an average human to do it WITHOUT bursting his lungs? Apply that in this scenario.

A horse carries 60% of its weight on its front legs. If you push 100%, it'll give way, breaking them and these animals go tumbling down into the river. If its deep, they'll drown. Look at their hoove. Are they two toed, or one toed? A two toed animal have the ability to climb steep clifs, jump down, and run down without injuring their front legs. Don't sound like an idiot. Stupid.
