2. He's letting the other ninja's know that failure of any sort won't be tolerated. They can die in battle or by Black Star's hand.

No, seriously, I just realised that we see this kinda scenes in most 80's standard action movies, especially when there's ninja's involved.. and it simply makes no sense. Just thought I'd mention it, as we're all used to seeing it as a logic thing to kill students for a mere demo.

And I have another question...Why is it that in these action/martial arts movies, anytime the hero takes on like 10 guys at once, there are 8 bad guys just standing around posturing while only 1 or 2 of them attack the good guy at a time? Seems to me that if they wanted to kill the good guy so badly they'd have a better chance if they all jumped him at once.

Hehe, yeah. You're right. I can see how it works better for showing off techniques on the big screen, but not the most realistic approach.

However, in a swordfight, it might actually be better to go one at a time, as it's pretty tricky rushing in with 8 guys swinging 1 meter long razor knifes.. even if the hero would be killed in the first hit, at least 3 other ninjas would lose their heads too..
