  • the earth isn't humming.. its just all those damn vuvuzelas

  • reminds me of 28 days later

  • how exactly?

  • The lyrics

  • @audiofalcon7, I think thrice's version is better, this song on youtube is really really really fuzzy though. This version sounds a lot more melodic.

  • The more I listen to this, the more I see why, in the very core of things, Frodus' version is 1000 times better for me.

  • Aww, the radio dude cut into the gnar intro. This is standard tuning to my knowledge. I've been playing this song for a while, and standard sounds perfect.

  • Frodus did a great job of making this song, and Thrice did a great job of giving it a raw, earthy feel. Which is better is subject to opinion and genre preferences, but huge props to Frodus for writing such an awesome song, and Thrice for doing such a brilliant cover.

  • The sun in the open sky

    FALL DOWN!

    FALL DOWN!!!!!

  • hell yeah !! i went to that concert! 2:57

almost caught riley's drumstick, but some other dude got it :[

  • harsh

  • Thrice is my favorite band, they did a good job, but I still like the original Frodus version much better.

  • sounds like a mandolin to me.

  • thrice rules

  • What tuning is this song played in?

  • standard! doesn't sound like it, huh....

  • lil bit of info...this is a cover...a dam good one at that...original is done by a band called Frodus...both amazing bands

  • why is the quality so shitty???

  • dude cant u read the description

  • Does anyone know what that is they use at 2:17 is that a banjo or a mandolin? Because it sure doesnt sound like a guitar unless they have some really really akward tuning....

  • im gonna have to guess its a banjo. but i dont really know. pretty sure its banjo though

  • it is a banjo..

  • i just saw thrice at the house of blues and its not a banjo its just distortion on the guitar

  • yeah in show they are not gonna bring all the things they used in studio. BUT, it soundslike a guitar to me

  • yeah its just a pitch shifter a 5th up i think

  • they used a guitar at Clutch Cargos when i saw them last

    Amazingz!

  • I was there too! One of the best concerts I have ever seen.... other than the 2nd opening band (Circa Survive i believe) sucked major balls

  • what radio station is this on? (if it even is on a radio station) because i can never find one that plays thrice on it

  • BBC 1 I believe is where he got it from. . .

  • this version is a little more powerful than the version on the actual cd in terms of heavy, trudgy-ness. I guess there was some sort of extra mastering this song got from radio one. The CD version is clearer and lighter.

  • for everyone who doesn't know, this is a cover of Frodus, who were a D.C. punk band.

  • This is a fucking brilliant song.

  • where the fuck are people getting these? im fuckign jealous. i wanted to be the first one! ha

  • Anyways back to commenting the band, Thrice is probably one of the strongest four peice band, ever. Even if their songs are simple they fuckin explode live. Not to mention the fact that they can rock the fuck out and then sing you a nice mellow song, and then cover a song such as this and make it thicker than the original even while they do it on acoustic banjo and a simpler beat. I'm not christian but dustins creative influences and the subjects he tackles are fuckin brilliant and moving

  • Debating about music on the internet is like fucking to perserve virginity, stop ruining it.

  • This song is a cover and I like it. I think it will contrast the other, mellow tracks we've heard from Earth.

  • I know the earth album is supposed to be raw and all but this sounds almost like it's a live recording... Anyone know if it is or not? This concept album was a bold move for Thrice and they might lose a few diehard fans for the change in sound but this is some of the best music I've heard in a while.

  • It was recorded live in a wooden room with two mics hung from the ceiling, nice effect.

  • Not a huge fan of this song.

  • you're dumb

  • How? I love everything else they've done but this one just strikes me as "odd"

  • Likely because this is a cover. Not quite something they'd do. I know they are influenced by songs like this but usually when they write it comes out as something completely different.

  • This is really good stuff. I can honestly see traces of Radiohead in this song. Thrice seems like the wine taster of music, lol. They can taste the robust flavor of the music that seems to inspire them, and create some really breathtaking sounds ('_')v

  • What a strange feeling it is to have listened to the sampler and hear Thrice's new stuff when, suddenly, a new song sounds familiar.

  • i really hope you're joking. if not, you're a musically ignorant piece of crap.

  • lol....of course i am...hence the sike!!

  • for sho. haha, sorry for being so mean, but there really are idiots who think like that. q320opy9t8ao;phif[q0238yt[0q29t

  • I love how you say sike at the end but your are still portayed as a mindless fool. I don't even care if your joking to refer anything about thrice towards something as disgusting as simple plan. Your opinion sickens me you sound like a musically challenged pile of nothing. This is a cover also which they made pretty bad ass. but yeah I'm not going to sit here and put effort into insulting you I just wanted to let you know that I think your dumb.

  • If u really think I like simple plan than u got another thing comin. And i know this is a cover, its a frodus song. Everything i said was completely false and ridiculous. Hence, Simple Plan. And how can u tell what my music taste is? By a youtube joke comment? You have no idea what i listen to or play. So as bold as your effort was to corner me into this persona you envisioned in your mind, you should try to refrain from making implications based upon assumptions.

  • Well thanks for letting me know that I don't know what you listen to or play, because honestly...I thought I knew? Perhaps I came off a little blunt maybewhatI was tackling was I thought it was quite humourless. Obviously I don't know your musical taste. anyways, corner you? I'm quite aware that even if I was trying to corner you, you wouldn't be affected by my words anyways. soo don't flatter yourself. the moral of the story is you got bent out of shape because someone hated your idea of a joke

  • Yeah what the hell, dude? You start by saying I don't care if you're joking, that opinion is stupid. That's pretty much the point he was trying to make.

Also, you put together an entire paragraph. Seems like a decent level of effort if you ask me.

  • And now I get an email with a comment of some sorry dick cheese burger wanting in on some you tube drama are you fuckin dumb? I don't even know where the fuck you came from, and if you find a 500 word paragraph effort go back to grade 8 pal lol effort, your funny. also no body did ask you so...why do I have an email of this waste of a comment...you didn't even talk about thrice which is the whole point of hating his joke. so, go find more confrontations to add your self in there you fuckin twat

  • why would a paragraph be 500 words? Im pretty sure thats like 2 full pages and if it lasts that long you must be one bad writer in order to not vary your ideas into separate paragraphs. by the way bring your "fuck you's" like im gonna reply to them :)

  • I'm not really sure if I have any fuck you's for you, you weren't really that offensive. 500 characters is what I meant since you know you can only write a tiny paragraph to get your point across to someone on here. though, I am a terrible terrible writer.

  • I actually read everything you and "the world of youtube" were arguing about and i gotta add agreement to your statements. Simple Plan is a piece and even joking about comparing them to Thrice should be a crime punishable by means of aggressive asphixiation. Thrice is the fucking greatest band ever.

  • Thank you! It wasn't even that much of a big deal but they kept replying. It's good to know someone can relate to the depths of thrice's music.

  • u need a girl.

  • pwnd.

  • Lol I don't know if my girl would approve but it would be nice.

  • thank u.

  • The Frodus version is great by itself... and because Thrice did a cover of it ;)

I've just listen to it but I think Dustin has a better voice and that Thrice's cover is still somehow more amazing.

  • i thought i was going to like earth the best but i just heard daedelus and looks like the air disc is going to give earth some competition. But deep down i think i am going to like them all.

  • same here! i like dustin's solo stuff a lot, and i thought i would like earth more than air. but air is sounding really nice so far.

  • YOUR ROCK WEI-WEI!!!!

I don't know much about Thrice (And I guess all of those crazy fans'll try to lapidate me because I decided to wrhite this down...) But I think that's great...

plus.. there's some cute guys in this :O Ooohhhh!! Me wants the cutties yummi :D

  • Absolutely stoked for vols III and IV, I think by the sounds of things that earth is going to be my favorite of the 4. Thrice, you blow me away.

  • This is awesome! I cant wait until April 15th. I LOVE Thrice, these guys are so talented, great cover.

  • by the way, this song is a cover. Frodus, good band.

thrice are my favorite though. love what they do and how they tackle their music and Dustin is such a thoughtful man.

  • i guess the earth record will be my favourite ;)

  • definetely!

  • wow, great cover

odd choice to do as acoustic, but it really works well. Not as good as the frodus original, but it's still awesome.

  • first thing that came to mind was the polar ice caps meltings and chips of glacier are "falling down"

  • Nice pictures to go with the song (great cover song, original by "Frodus" for those that don't know). Also to your "About this Video" lyrics, yes they are 100% correct.

  • beautifully-edited collage, I might add

  • oh thanks so much, i've tried to pick good pictures!

    ;D

  • A lot of modern culture is convinced that this planet is theirs, and waste is not a question they give pause to. That arrogant line of thinking must "fall down." My vision is a day when only canoes and kayaks are allowed on lakes and rivers ... when buskers, not cars, roam the streets ... when we learn to live with less, not more disposable "goods"

  • You know I thought I could be the only one who thought about that, I'm glad you wrote this comment, sadly enough such a time in the world seems impossible, when the modern culture is just looking for easier ways accomplish, the world has become one big fast food porno. Spoiling the passion and beauty of things. and wrecking the whole point and meaning of it all. we've all become spoiled children with no meaning of value. it seems an end is near because we have gone so far since our beginning.

  • I just converted 'The Earth Will Shake' to acoustic (dropA, am, dm w/variations), so I'm humbled by the grunge sound this elemental song shares. It's a segue from 'The Arsonist', I feel.

There's a couple of guitars at work here (is that a banjo, too? please, I can't tell), but I'm a bit befuddled on the chord structure. Is it in drop A, drop D? If anyone has had luck playing this, please do tell. Here's an Earth homage to Thrice: I play their music in a tipi on university campus all the time.

  • I got the intro down: it's in drop A, and you strum your thick strings on A3, A2, A0, A2, A3, A2, A0, A2h3 ... keep working on it tho

  • I got the intro down: it's in drop A, and you strum your thick strings on A3, A2, A0, A2, A3, A2, A0, A2h3 ... keep working on it tho

  • I feel that song links with The Arsonist from 'Fire' ... I'd really like to see Thrice get passionate about the depleting wilderness, but maybe we'll see some of that in Earth

  • Why the hell isn't this on mainstream radio?

Hell, I didn't know Thrice got ANY radio time. Big ups to this station.

  • mainstream will never play something this underground

  • well erm, it was on radio 1 in england :)

  • was it?? nice ^^

  • damn i thought i'd be the only one with this song for a while.

  • woooo

  • Indeed.
