I can never listen to Debussy without thinking of this movie -- perhaps when I really think about the, the movie that I come to most often, especially when I'm feeling down. I love this movie. Girl with the Flaxen Hair, Arabesques 1 and 2 and, of course, the first and third movements of Nocturnes just work so well for this movie -- so beautiful.
magnificent Ambersons- Citizen Cane- Niagara w/M. Monroe,Under Capricorn,Touch of Evil and I think Spiral Staircase too -- later he did lots of B flicks and smaller roles
Interesting detail: "They used a "special process" for the film´s premiere. The movie was shown normally until the lightning bolt that initiates the green-tinted storm. At that point the masking receded for a giant pre-prepared screen,as a zoom-effect lens enlarged the image just for the special-effect finale" I wish I could have been there that day.
I saw Portrait of Jennie, when I was 18 years old. 1948. Befoere the endless war movies tapered down. The beginning of hope. Of dreams. I detested the years of WWII, and how each movie was worse than before. It caused one to hate the American Germans, who built this country. Like my parents and siblings. Good industrious people who farmed the land here to feed our country. Give credit where credit is due. Beth
@canon21100 Yes, thank you, never noticed that family likeness before. But I never doubted E.Barrymore was great. Always remember her pulling the trigger in "Spiral Staircase".
Thank you--I had not seen this movie since it was in the "Million Dollar Movie" rotation on network TV back in the 1960s! Jennifer Jones is radiant. The only other young actress I can remember having such a glow was Elizabeth Taylor in National Velvet.
This movie was black and white until the lightning scene on the way to the lighthouse and then it was colorized in green. Then it goes to full color at the end. Very interesting. Thanks again.
One of the greatest pictures, I guess. The story is just perfect and wonderfully acted. You made me discovering it on Voyager, but in pieces. Now, full-length is just a Chritmas present (one more, I should say). And listen to Tiomkin's music! Thanks to the requester, and to you of course, Ric.
Thank you for posting this!! Wonderful book - wonderful movie.
