They only get that hot because it is a camless engine. They use a series of solenoids to open the valves and since it's easier to control a solenoid they can keep it running at perfect timing which is why it is so loud too

Well said. I hate that ridiculous, snobbish comparison too. There is no real comparison - the cars are designed to perform for their specific purposes. But put an F1 car straight into an Indy race and it would be badly beaten - and vice versa.

But ask an Indy team to make a car specifically for an F1 race - and vice versa - chances are you'd have a winner. That's down to the genius of the engineers and drivers on both sides of the Atlantic.

Personally, I celebrate both.

@haks0894 F1's are teeny tiny little 2.4L DOHC V8's that are limited to a max rpm of 18k, and somehow by way of... i dunno, a fucking flux capacitor make almost 800 horse. It's fucking rediculous.

IRL cars are 3.5L DOHC V8's that are limited to 10,300rpm, make about 650hp, and used to run on methanol before the government went all faggotty tree hugger on us, so the EPA made them use ethanol.

All that leaves left is CART, they used to run turbo'd 2.65L DOHC V8's burning methanol....

This is a cool video indeed how the exahust just lights up, but don't call this an indycar. It's insulting to this beautiful technological marvel. Indycars and F1 cars may have the same origin, but they have evolved and not equally. While the indy series has become nothing but an open wheel version of NASCAR the cars of the F1 Grand Prix are more technologically advanced than the space shuttle with each team spending roughly 200 million dollars on just research and development anually.

It has nothing to do with top speed dude. Indy cars run around an oval track. F1 cars run street courses with blink hairpin turns. You cant even begin to compare the two courses. Engines are built around the track. composition. Indy and F1 are designed around two totally different tracks. Think before you speak.

F1 cars are designed to be the fastest things on conventional tracks...The engines are also N/A and rev to 18,000rpm to benefit driver control and flexibility during cornering...An Indy car wouldn't come close to an F1 around a normal circuit. To answer your question: F1 cars are geared differently, that's why they won't go to 235mph + the downforce: to put it perspective, Honda took the rear-wing off their 2006 car and it got to 260mph when left open...

I know F1 is not as popular as the moronic sport of nascar in America, but before you comment "Indy cars rule" make sure you are watching a video with at least one indy car in it. This is F1, dude. HUGE difference. F1 cars are the highest achievement in motorsports engineering period. Tiny little V8's making 800+ hp at 19000+ rpm. Yes, you read that right 19000! This is, I believe an older Arrows that probly ran the bigger 3.0l V-10. I'm American, but know the difference.
