Of course this video was made for the IAFF. It should be titled "let's destroy another EMS system to justify our huge budgets even though our firefighters hate EMS". Don't worry the fire truck will be there in under 5 minutes, but the fire based ambulance will take 10-15 minutes. But we won't tell the public that, after all the fire truck got there quick.
Too bad many fire departments treat the ambulance crews like second class citizens, and many fire fighters HATE running medical calls. I find it funny how the firefighters in my staion will sprint to the truck when responding to a stucture fire but drag thier buts and drive as slow as possible praying to be canceled by the ambulance on a "dreaded medical call". Fire based IS NOT allways better. Some fire based systems have horrible response times and provide terrible pt. care.
And some firefighter/paramedics love running both and serving the community they work for in any way possible. Some fire based EMS systems are great, with rapid response time and a very very high level of patient care.
Everything you said can also be said about privately owned ambulance companies too.
EXACTLY!! Well put. I geuss I did skip over my main question. What makes fire based EMS services better than private, city/county or any other "seperate" from fire EMS services? I have worked private, city, and currently fire based. I can point to many flaws with all three, and unfortunately have witnessed examples of poor service and response times from all 3 types of services. For the record I have seen excellent care, response times, and community service from various fire depts.
