  • If there is enough current on the 6.3 winding, try a large wattage .65 (If I did my calculation right) ohm resistor in series.

  • It would be cool if you would restore the thing to use a 5Y3. In my experience, solid state diodes, especially in repair jobs are hard on the tubes. The turn on cycle, ouch!

    The amp appears to use a 12AX7 for phono amplification, and a 6AV6 driving the 6L6 pentode in class A mode.

  • I'm not sure if I can replace the 5Y3...I don't think those replacement transformers have the 5-volt filament winding.

  • No you can't do that with a single filament winding and a 5Y3 because the rectifier filament winding has the B+ voltage output on it. You could use the resistor though with a separate 6.3 v filament winding which would go to just the 5Y3.

  • True, I thought the plate transformer had a 6.3 volt, because most of them do.

  • It is getting harder to find chassis that have not been butchered.
