@superdrummer3578 No, Type C really did "only" 340 kph and this one even less because it's hillclimb version. What you meant are land speed record specials with streamliner body.
You could not skim the heads without the valve clearance tolerances being unobtainable and the steel tubes for the water cooling that were shrink cast into the blocks now leak due to electrolytic corrosion action... Ring Crosthwaite and Gardiner in Buxted and ask how many engines they have built and how many originals are run today. My educated guess is there are NO original engines being run today only the new ones built from 1998 onwards
Bear in mind that with 16 cylinders an engine running quite slowly can appear to be running at the top of the rev range. These engines, all of them, yes ALL of them, are new ones, the early originals and there are very few were actually made of such low grade alloys that they are completely useless now.
This is the biggest pile of rubbish I have ever read on a youtube video. Good video, great noise. These engines were designed to be revved, and these pre ww2 german grand prix cars using castrol engine oil? That's a new one to me.
i would not trust that bloke blipping the engine that high on a car which costs that much as that car would if it were up for sale. not anyone but me to warm up my car because he obviously don't know how to treat it right. let it idle dick head. castrol oil is what they would use alchol and actone and petrol and aviation petrol was sometimes used in the mercedes
ROFL. As soon as you let off the throttle, these engine's will die. It's a 2v formula 1 engine with carbueretors and point-style ignition. Chances are the bloke you are talking about is the millionaire that owns it, or the mechanic that works for him.
Uh huh, "let it idle" you say? and how long do you think that's going to last until the plugs carbon up and the engine stops and won't start again until you pull the plugs and clean them? This is a pre-war GP car, not a Ford Mercury.
Whoops I forgot.. the BRM V16 did come out to New zealand in the 1950s, but I wasnt born then. Thanks again for the Auto-Union 'head-rush' Merry Xmas. FPC.
Awesome sound!! Thanks for that!! We had nothing ,like that in New Zealand.. closest we got were our pioneer 'backyard boys' who built racing cars with aeroplane engines as there was nothing this sophisticated available. Once again thanks.. a real treat!
It's the infamous "Riga" car which was found in Riga/Latvia. It's a mixture of the C/D type who was used at hillclimb races. It has a type D chassis with an C engine. The Car was built in 1938 and was lost after WW2. After the Iron Curtain collapsed, the car was located at the Riga Technical Museum.

Isn't this a Typ D? I thought it's only the Typ D that had the double wheels at the back? They were used for hillclimb challanges.

No, this is the Typ C with the V16 (count the pipes). The Typ D is a V12.
