I want to ammend my earlier comment, which was probably too negative - when I look at videos of gymnasts during earlier decades through the 1980's and into some the 1990's, I see more relatively more gymnasts with musicality and artistry in their floor exercises. I wonder if the lack of artistry in recent years might be a negative result of compulsory routines having been eliminated after 1996.
This is perhaps the most musical gymnast I have ever seen. Her dancing is a perfect visual representation of what is happening in the music. The vast majority of other gymnasts seem to mindlessly go through their routines (even many who have good form in dance elements), without regard to the musical line.
Remember - there were no sprung floors in general use then (and the beams were just solid wood and the vault not much more than that. And those asymmetrical bars being close together- look what it did to the pelvic bones!). Based upon the equipment they competed on - which hadn't changed since around WWI, these 1970s gymnasts achieved extraordinary skill and grace,
эльвира саади-прекрасная, выразительная,женственная, милая, красивая, добродушная-как же мы любили ее!!! знаю, что она работает тренером, но хочется узнать побольше и о работе, и о жизни! помним и любим!
Svetlana Khorkina developed a somewhat similar style by default--she's something of a throwback to that late 60s/early 70s era when the average international competitor was taller than typical now.
Yeah! And no stopping to take a breather before every tumbling pass back in the day :) I remember her olympic beam routine, very unique. Anyone got any footage of that?
This song featured throughout the Olga Korbut 'Reputations' documentary! I'd love to know the name of it!

She truly was a beautiful dancer! Hard to believe this was 35+ years ago! Just listen to how hard that floor exercise mat was!

shes got such a long body it would be hard to get your body over fully when doing flips but she does it really gracefully

Awesome Megsta, what'd she yell at you for?
Note the end pose on releve on one foot! Gym was once about control as well as explosive power. Ah, well.

Intl. Gymnast wrote that Saadi's nickname was The Panther. Wonderful cat-like grace of the Soviet gymnasts then.
