  • Speak Dr. I chose Kalonji over 30 years ago!

  • @MsButterflyeffect01 I posted on this video so long ago I'm not sure what your refering 2

  • I find the short video about the naming process by Dr. Molefi Kete Asante to be a profound reflection. Many of us (African Americans) spend our time magnifying names such as Smith, Johnson, Williams, etc but we have yet to find out the essence or objective behind why these names came into existence. My name is Masata Khnemu RA. The explanation behind these attributes would take too much time to explain. However; I think that our names should be a virtual instruction manual for how we live.

  • @CyanoticFuture And the point I'm trying to make is that I don't have a fucking clue why your talking to me about names like "Tay or Quisha" when I never mentioned them. Stop whining over nothing. No one gives a fuck about your opinion anyways

  • @GGLebo23 I didnt say anything about foreigners or Native Americans needing to change their names, their names most likely actually mean something and arent some stupid made up one.My analogy sucked yo you only because youre too slow to get it.If you ran a buisness would you hire someone named Adolf?Seriously ask yourself that.Lets forget Adolf for a second.Whats the first thing that comes to YOUR mind if you hear about/meet white person named Cletus,Bubba,Jeb or someother oddball "hillbilly"name

  • please could somebody please tell me as its so important for me know - is the name Rendee Cystal or Thomas Rendee african names? Please somebody help me.

  • If we change our names, shouldn't we be changing all other aspects of our culture, then? I'm interested in knowing whether Asante continues to practice Christianity, or if he conducted a genealogical study to trace his roots back to a particular region of Africa, or this name selection was merely done out of "self-reflection." What about the language he continues to speak? Is he bilingual in his "native" tongue? In my opinion, this process of "cultural redefintion" is arbitrary.

  • We should blame Europeans for their criminal injustices against their victims including African people.

It doesn't suprise me we have the odd ignorance of those who love kissing their asses left, right and centre.

For their informantion African people have got the talent and don't need to prove a point and we will attack those who are known for their wicked acts of shameful crimes onto us.

  • What I find most amusing about this is this blatant statement of "WE are DIFFERENT from YOU because of RACE" and then the same people turn around and say "why you be thinkin' us as diffrin"?

I, personally, have no problem with someone taking on a name of a past ethnicity. My problem is when they use it as a statement of pretending they are being OPPRESSED or that something was STOLEN from them; in other words, when it's used as the BLAME GAME!

  • i don't know why white people find it difficult to understand

why we prefer to have african names instead of slave names

all of my brothers and sisters and i have african names with meaning.but growing up i'd constantly hear from whites and a few blacks like why isn't your name billy steven or mike??

    fuck that shit!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • YEAH! Its about agency, as Asante said time and time again. We decide what the hell we want 2 be called. how can a man respect you if you r begging 2 b just like him as opposed 2 yourself?

  • @mnlkthms

William, Steven and Michael aren't slave names. They're English/Bulgarian/German names. Are you sure you're allright in the head?

  • @vikingWindmill look i'm not in the mood for a debate they are slave names that my people carry. go bother some one else who's up for a debate i don't understand why people troll around to start shit because they dislike other peoples opinions they're slave names i'm not in the mood to give a history break down on slavey how my peoples got their last names your not worth it.remember i'm not right in the head?? bother some one who is

  • to be honest, most carribeans and black americans will disagree with you as the conquered mind is a hard one to sell to. when africans are mocked for having "funny names" by blacks who carry slave owner names the sense of irony is completely missing here.. i personally think it quite sad really, we refer to carribean and black americans as "lost " african people people who do not know who they are and indeed it is the case, when calling yourselves "nigga" is considered to be harmless ,it is'nt.

  • Oluwalogbon58:

Being a man of Afro-American, Trinidadian, and Grenadian descent, I can say that I disagree with what you are saying.

My mind is hardly "conquered". Yes I carry a European surname, however I don't consider that to be my "true" last name. My "true" last name is lost to history...a consequence of the system. I am reluctant to adopt and African name is because I'm not sure how that would be more "authentic" than the European last name

    Perhaps after a DNA test.

  • well, i had a discussion with a carribean woman about this same issue today at work and what she said gave me a completely different prespective to what is a very contentious issue amongst those blacks who care about these things... as i said, the term nigger/nigger is a damaging term and cannot be "claimed back " from white people when it is a disparaging term in the first place, but as she said to me, the slave way of thinking which is to follow and obey

  • cannot turn that attidute off light a light. for those who want to do DNA tests to give them a rough idea where their people originated from western the gold coast and slave routes, its a start for them.. for others , they dont want anything to do with africa as its a place of shame for them and denial is not just a river in Egypt...

  • A "conquered mind" is that which actually believes their name is european and that they orginate in europe because they are born there.. There are plenty of conquered minds out there, just as their are simple minded black people who cant grasp the fact that african languages and cultures are diverse as you would find in any european country . the conditioning is very deep whether you like it or not..

  • I can feel that man problyafter a test to see all of the different parts my ancesters

were from I could be moreaccurate about choosing a name I see people think I am not a christian and I am notthoe I do not claim any particular faith exept I stive to follow one god peoplefrom other countries ask me my name they look disapointed when I say a christian name because they know I am far beyond that title I was born with but I am only going for an african name I am notgetting an middle eastern name

  • @Amaru4ever

Or maybe you just use this as a excuse.

How in the hell or rather why in the hell do you think you need a DNA test ? You know you are african so what difference does it make?

If you dont want to claim your people thats fine but dont speak negative of people who is actually trying. You are just commenting and in the end have done nothing.

  • @Amaru4ever its not about being atheuntic...it's a bout corrections...just like if you convert to islam you'll change your name a cording to what your heart feels like....but looks like slavery screwed your brains off you can't understand what he's talkin about...asian, hispanics and even arabs moved to america they never changed their names...it's giving folks a sense of belong for the future generation...you dont do it for yourself but for the future black diasporans

  • it saddens me that i see a lot of racist comments on here especially by jewishrage but its ok. if people dun want to change their name they dun have 2 its completly optional. I am african and damn proud of it. i believe african cultures will continue to shine in grace.with our unique names, poetry, and clothing

  • Right on, I'm african as well and we should never have to change a thing as long as we keep loving ourselves.

  • You do know that the earliest Christians originated in Ethiopia, Africa don't you?? DO your research!

  • Comment removed

  • Yes, that's what I keep trying to tell people, but some of the people that on here that are telling me , ''No, No Christianity is a European Religion,'' this is from some African people of the Diaspora! They have it so backwards and need to educate themselves!

Christianity was in Ethiopia a thousand years before Europe, and a thousand years before the missionaries came. I have an Ethiopia Christianity playlist to help to show people the truth.

  • coptic christainity precedes western european christainity but it is the western christain tradition that has a griphold on most africans outside Ethiopia ... they are not interested in that stuff as it doesnt mean the same to them as it will to those blacks who come from slavery and need to connect to some sort of african history that has no imput of the whiteman in it...

  • There is a great video:

    youtube . com / watch?v=NJfbtupcGbs

  • Also, when it comes to North African Muslim sounding names, as Bernard Lewis has said, "We can understand why many blacks would give up the name and language of the white men who bought them as slaves, but why on earth would they want to adopt the name and language of the Arabs who sold them into slavery?"

    Think about it.

Asante, like Dr. Ben, is full of it!

    They're racists!

We're not supposed to be this way!!!

Let's get beyond this color stuff!!!

  • So, get rid of the name you currently have, and make up a new name for yourself (that sounds African), and we're on our way to prosperity.?

    What a plan.

Just more racist meandering about Europeans. It's all the Europeans fault (right ?)!

It's time that we all grow up, and stop blaming white people for everything, and take some responsibility for ourselves!

And, why is there Spanish guitar music playing in the background?

    Where's the African music?

    Come on my people!

  • I think the fact to look for our real identity as Africans is a good way "to take some responsability for ourselves"

This is not about Europeans, it is all about ourselves.

Ps: There's no spanish guitar playing, what you hear is called "Cora" guitar in some west African countries such as Mali.

  • Hey, take it easy! Why French don't call themselves SUZIKI or Innammoto! CaLM down, he is not racist in anyway, never said anything derogative about any other race or people; but just want afro people to embrace their cultural heritage that has been stolen. If that make him a racist, then so be it!

  • @dariustsu

Most black people in America have last names that were past down to them from the slave masters through their ancestors. If my great great grandfather was given the name John Ford, by master David Ford , the name Ford would later be replaced with the name smith once he was sold to master George Smith. He would not be a Ford or a Smith, but the property of those slave masters.

  • @dariustsu

I don't blame white people for everything. When someone takes away a persons history, name, religion, devide that persons family, and gives that person something unfit, the victim is not wrong, crazy, evil, or stupid for rejecting what doesn't fit. If a man takes away your children, rape them, then give your grandchildren his last name, do you think they would be wrong to reject such name once they know the truth?

  • @dariustsu

You are not even African anything. You are a pretender. So stop pretending. you dont belong here.

  • Could everyone try to promote their beliefs elsewhere? This is just a vdeo about names.

  • Former real name!

  • Yes, actually former SLAVE name. IT WAS NEVER REAL.

  • i seems to forget that utube is not just for Farrakhan follwers but is also available for idiots also. I f ou dont no what to comment save the space for a positiveperson like me who does.

  • JewishRage don't you think you should save your venom for the Palastinians who given the oppotunity. Would blow idiot jewishRages like you to pieces racist donkey turd.

  • You do the same get out of Africa and take your theiving corporations wit you.

  • AFRICAN ARE THE MOTHERS AND FATHERS OF THE WORLD. SO, as A FAMOUS ANCIENT GREEK ONCE SAID,,,, IN THE EYES OF EGYPT WE ARE BUT CHILDREN... HOW CAN YOU TEACH YOU MOTHER AND FATHER AFRICA... NOW Debate with your thoughts while you ponder this lesson, and the same way your ancestor did when they studied in AFRICA

  • Greetings Just read all the racist comments jokes or whatever they are. jewishrage invasion2012 come up with these comments are easy when you are who you are but know that a blow struck is always repaid by a similar one

  • I cannot recall any statements involving the word Jewish, now if you are feeling guilty for your ancestors passed transgressions and involvement with slavery, that just something you have to work out with your psychiatrist. I cannot help you feel at ease about own conscious.

  • GREETINGS invasion2012 you should re-read my comment before reacting. I speaking of you and that other post named jewishrage as far as your comment I'll say it like one of our Ancestor scholars put it I only debate with my equals all others I teach, so Im sure our alleged involvement had everything to do with the white man's tricks like you are trying to do with your comments they are tired and weak

  • AFRICAN ARE THE MOTHERS AND FATHERS OF THE WORLD. SO, as A FAMOUS ANCIENT GREEK ONCE SAID,,,, IN THE EYES OF EGYPT WE ARE BUT CHILDREN... HOW CAN YOU TEACH YOU MOTHER AND FATHER AFRICA... NOW Debate with your thoughts as while you ponder this lesson

  • Monument stand in The Americas of Black people of ancient, It is not African whom should transmigrate (not transform-meaning to change physical or mental form) Does a thought of your ancestor aggression make you feel so unease...

  • How far should the name changing go? Should all the Blacks or African descendant peoples in the Caribbean and Latin America abandon their English,French,Spanish and Portuguese names? Or is this viewed as an issue more with Black-Americans?

  • If you are unhappy with your name change it... I suggest people visit Africa... I cannot look upon a person whos name is Tobbie. The name is as dead as of word with no life or creation as many none creative name from old Europe..

  • African-descent people are taught a narrow version of "Black History" that only goes back to the slave ship. African-descent people have much more history than that. Look at the Jews who have been in slavery, subjected to genocide, but yet they do not limit their history only back to the times of Hitler.

Black people should not let the Anglo-Saxon dominant culture continue to hide their true history from them, like the kingdoms of Ghana, Mali, and Songhay, and Great Zimbabwe.

  • very true. except the white jew has never been enslaved like european slavery.

  • I feel you all the way

  • Cultural revival is difficult in today's hedonistic and hegemonized culture of consumerism.
