I...have trouble with this. Not only is it hypocrite, as warner bros didn't really try anything 'new' either (4 of the same shows where running at the same time) but also...the SAME old heroine? Though you can compare irresponsible rebel-against-daddy Jasmine and Ariel, you can't compare them to Mulan (or Tiana). Disney tried quite a lot of new stuff such as Olivier & co and Mouse detective.
I sense so much ignorance, assumptions and illogical thinking.
@WakeSideLife It's not sensitivity, it's criticism on their criticism. Criticism mostl come from people who care and know how thinks could be better. Hypocrism is criticism biggest enemy and combined a mixture of confused messages.
If Dot sang this, so would Background Singer (Voiced by me). If Dot played as Ariel, he would be Prince Eric. If Background Singer was Robin Hood (Even though he's not in Beauty & The Beast), Dot would be her princess ego. The rest is just nothing but couples.
Replace all the Disney Princess references in this film with your standard adult "Chick Flick" movie and you'll see why I'm not a big fan of those films.
Brilliant these guys are! Sure, brilliant! Even before it became so obvious (much like it is nowadys), the writers of Animaniacs could still figure out the development of Disney Corporation's low effort, money-grubbing method of using redundant plot formulas to create long-term franchises. I mean who could have seen that coming? So many people are even oblivious to it today. :/
@MiKAelangelo90 yes, the characters are similar, but it's the story that matters. I love animaniacs, and i agree with them, but i also love disney and i know it isn't just about similar characters, cuz they are different too, and the story is VERY different too...so seriously, u shud shut up. I know that disney nowadays r money grubbing (and low effort? lmao u r soo wrong), but so are wb and a bunch of other companies. In the '90's they cared abt quality, and not anymore. its the same for every1
@DestinyBell864 I'm just admiring it when a company is adequate at making fun of another company. that's all. I love disney too. I just prefer it when a company is honest and tries hard, which mainly at today's standards, is very rare.
@MiKAelangelo90 all companies today are money grubbing idiots. Back then, at least they attempted to make quality shows while trying to milk profits...nowadays.... :(
I don't even remember what i said....and I'm too lazy to go back and check so it's alrite
@loldude83 I agree, I'm pretty sure now after watching a few Anamaniacs clips that this show played a big role in how I became so cynical so early on. I don't mind it much though, I find it amusing and awesome that a show I loved as a kid, I can go back and watch now and enjoy it in a whole new way.
This song really inspired my own statement. Disney Animation really needed to break out of the Disney Princess Fairy Tale routine and come up with something more original and unique with characters that Tarantino experimented in "Pulp Fiction". I am okay with princesses but I think the non-princesses are much better characters than they are.
@Wingham64409 - I agree, the only princess who really broke from the fairy-tale mold was Tiana from 'Princess and the Frog'. And the non-Princess heroines (Esmeralda, Megara, Jane) are more likeable than the Princesses.
LMAO, The very beginning w/ the Pocahontas parody brought tears to my eyes. I love Animaniacs, though I don't remember seeing this short. It is so true.
Well now that John Lasseter is on board, Disney will try to be original in every future movie they do instead of using the same old ideas from past movies.
I'm not sure whether to find it funny or not. I guess back then, I wasn't too crazy about Disney animated films but now I'd pick them over Hannah Montana and High School Musical.
I'm one of the biggest Disney fans and I gotta say this sort of hits the nail on the head. Not in a bad way but it's really common that every princess starting with Ariel strives for an unattainable "more" in song. I mean still today Rapunzel is pretty much just like Ariel. Tiana's probably the first one who sought an attainable dream and worked all on her own to get it.
@Nightman221k yeah the other Disney girls of the 90s Esmerelda, Megara and Mulan werent looking for 'more'. Esmerelda wnats to stop discrimination against her people and against quasi. Mulan went to war for her dad and megara wanted freedom from being enslaved to hades. they were the better disney girls in my opinion
@Kerriangel I think Disney's always able to do more out of the ordinary characters when they aren't stuck trying to do the typical "Princess Story." I love the 90s princesses but the non-princesses get to be more feisty and willful.
@Nightman221k Yes but at least both Ariel and Rapunzel (mostly Rapunzel) know what they want (like Tiana and the other non-princesses). Whereas Pocahontas, Belle and Jasmine wanted something more but they didn't know it yet.
@TheFahmad27 Belle started out as a commoner, she is not a rebellious princess. And what do you mean Belle doesn't know what she wants, didn't you hear her song. She wants adventure in the great wide somewhere.
@TheFahmad27 u shudn't have sed mostly rapunzel, she's just like ariel, tiana, mulan, etc. Belle, Jasmine, Pocahontas had boundaries (ariel too, the reason she surpassed it cuz she got hold of MAGIC), that's why they cudn't get wut they wanted 'till the end. They KNEW what they wanted. or at least the gist of it.
Awesome song, I especially love the beginning, how they sing: you feel like this is dejavu, the girl who thinks that she wants more, the music starts, youll find that you are humming.. :)
Back in the 90s it was Disney's fault that many animated movies were musicals as animation studios were trying to "follow the leader" for some reason. Almost all non-Dinsey animated movies who tried to be Disney, failed, and those which were trying to be musicals ONLY for the sake of animated musicals being a popular thing for the 90s, failed also. The biggest offense is that Tom and Jerry, A MOVIE ABOUT A CAT AND A MOUSE DOING SLAPSTICKS, was a musical as well. And not particularly good one
Usually, you can tell a lot about the way a company views itself from the way it portrays other companies.
For example, in this video, WB is calling Disney a company that never tries to come up with new content because they know you will buy their videos anyway. Well, that logically means that WB views itself as a company that doesn't care about the money, and that all it wants is to make original shows just for your enjoyment.
@InvaderWakkoReborn Another words, more than half the people didn't liked it that you played the song in the most unappropriate place in the world. Can't say I blame them.
Dot makes the CUTEST little mermaid! I love how they take some of Disney's best Princesses and critique them in a way that's hilarious and true! Sad, but hilairous and true!
@ztslovebird Actually those are Disney's NEW princesses, and the first four, Ariel, Belle, Jasmine and Pocahontas seem more or less the same characters. All are rebellious (despite having a decent life), do not want to be with a man they are initially bethrothed to (technically Ariel does not want any mermen), have adventures by wandering into the unknown, and all have animal sidekicks. Disney's old princesses Snow White, Cinderella and Aurora are different however and don't belong in this song
@Serdikhan Fair enough. But the older princesses are all kind of the same, too. Spend long hours singing with local animal life, cry at the drop of a hat, and sit around waiting for someone to rescue them.
Having grown up at the time, I have to say this came out at the perfect time. By Pocahontas everyone I knew was getting tired of the formula, and I for one loved having it pointed out like this.
I love how joke videos always result in debates between members here... just try to have fun with it and not take it so personally. It's all for satirical purposes anyway. It's not like any of what the show makes fun of makes these movies bad.
I get it, but the thing is, the princesses want something more in a different way. But they all want a "A Whole New World", to be "Part of Your World", to have "Adventure in the great wide somewhere" and find out what's "Just Around the Riverbend". Get my puns?
I...have trouble with this. Not only is it hypocrite, as warner bros didn't really try anything 'new' either (4 of the same shows where running at the same time) but also...the SAME old heroine?
