Fantastic clip, Ronnie on the track was something special remember F1 70th to 80th,
Engine was the priority and safety probably last...What a hero that pulled thru from 1970...We will always remeber him and his wonderful Swedish wife Barbro.
Ronnie Peterson made the impossible win in the Italy GP at Monza in 1976 in a shitty March car at wet conditions, only that event makes him a motor sport hero of all time as the Italians still knows.
@kzbxvz Yeah...I remember very good this time. It was time, when the drivers were realy drivers, not as now...
Peterson with March 761, Regazzoni, James Hunt ...But for me was the best Carlos Pace with beautiful Brabham BT-45 Alfa Romeo. Where are this times...:-(
@sunalexx My answer is simple, Money is our new Jesus, if you don't have any money you are totally fucked. Michael Schumacher has a lot of money but he is still racing and make a fool of himself. Can any human being with some sences explain why?

the only F1 driver sweden ever had and it so sad he died that day wounder what would have happen if he should hav survied that day we never going to know that question RIP Ronnie"Super Swede"Peterson.
good tribute to one of the racing world history most underrated driver.
thank you very much for showing the aggressiveness of his driving.. A very hard drivier. who got short changed.. I have a new appreciation of his skills for that. he is more alive than he was.
Our man Ronnie was the King of Oversteer in an F1 car. He could hang it out there and wring the Lotus 72 out like no one else. Emmo' came closest to Ronnie's car control. You gotta' hand it to the guy he was incredible.
It should be noted that Peterson wasn't killed at the 1978 Italian Grand Prix - he was very much alive when he left the circuit and at worst would of lost one foot. There was a number of reasons why he died, but his injuries were not life threatening, just a number of unfortunate circumstances that lead to his death. As Bernie said 'nobody dies of a broken leg', but a number of drivers died in that era due to the cowboy operation that was F1. Ronnie should never of died.
@djh29971 In actual fact he died of a fat embolism. His legs were badly broken. Truth is that even today it's exteremly difficult to save someone with that condition. He would have had a better chance if he'd had treatment instantly, but they waited until he got to hospital. They thought Vittorio Brambilla was the most urgent case, and sadly Ronnie payed the price. The only good that came out of that shitty day was that F1 medical facilities improved massively thanks to Sid Watkins. RIP Ronnie!
@djh29971 the thing was that ronnies leg was not broken, it was totaly shatterd and even today the risk of death after that sort of injury would have been pretty high
Along with Jochen Rindt, Ronnie is one of my heros. Graham Chapman did his best, but Ronnie never found a car to keep up with him. A truly awesome driver.
On that fateful 1978, destiny wrote an end to sports and human story of the two greatest drivers that Sweden has ever had .. Ronnie Peterson and Gunnar Nilsson!
My Girlfriend is Swedish. In the summer we're going over to Sweden to see her family. I was going to visit the Ronnie Peterson museum in Orebro. I just found out it's closed because they couldn't get funding from the Swedish government. I can't believe it. If that was here (UK) there would have been people rallying around to save it. Shame on you Swedish govt. Ronnie was a great driver who should never be forgotten!
Meh, Sweden is an underdeveloped motorsport country. After Peterson the interest died and not a single racetrack in Sweden is up to FIA standards today. Anderstorp is a bumpy joke. The Swedish karting scene is nothing to brag about either. The whole structure of motorsport in Sweden is on happy amateur level. Not to mention that the people into motorsport here are seen as white trash types by the general public.
@McLarenMercedes It all vanished with the deaths of Gunnar and Ronnie. Stefan Johansson being the one that got away and trying to help young (scandinavian) talents today. but it´s hard to fight when you´re alone.
Great video Hannuff. Ronnie Peterson was still is a hero of mine watching him back in 70s got me into motorsport though I ended up on two wheels instead of four, watching Ronnie throw his car in to bends sideways what a driver some have come close but none has replaced Super Swede
I was lucky enough to see Ronnie drive on quite afew occassions but I best remember him at Brands driving the 72 and putting it slightly sideways at Paddock it will always live with me. I agree with the last posting absolutely. One of the best and certainly one of the fastest!!!
Although the very last car you see Ronnie driving as the camera goes to 'freeze frame' was the dreadful Lotus 76..an absolute piece of poo of a car!! No wonder Ronnie went back to March..although that was a terrible decision by Ronnie's agent cos' that car was crap too!! Ronnie drove the backsides off both those cars & they let him down time & again!! He'd have won the world championship if he'd had a good car under him..no problems..OMO but food for thought..very sad RIP RP ...
JPS Lotus and Ronnie, what's a couple. T¨he fastest driver all long. Now on heaven Ronnie, Gilles, Cevert, Senna, and others great drivers are on Gods Raceway in a fantastic battle.
This is what a tribute should be: what we actually remember of the man.
With Gilles Villeneuve, Ronnie Peterson had the best car control of all (2:32 is a perfect example) and both were the fastest of their eras, maybe of all time. He also shared with Villeneuve the utmost respect of all his competitors. They knew they could race wheel-to-wheel with him and trust him.
Along with Moss and Villeneuve, Super Swede was one of the three greatest drivers never to have won a World Championship.
just for the record , colin chapman , thought ronnie was a brilliant driver and a very good friend . mario was no 1 but ronnie was much the faster driver , they had team orders in the 70s too . ronnies tops .
watched f1 for 35 years , ronnie is and will remain the best driver , by far , ronnie and jps lotus lives forever , thanks who ever put this tribute together .
I spent a lot of time in the pits and paddocks during Ronnie's heyday and always thought that Colin really liked him. Ronnie is the all-time fastest driver in my book.
Yes,sadly Reutemann never won the title either and a gearbox failure at the very last race of 1981 robbed him of the title the same year.Reutemann was on pole and his team mate Jones cruised to an easy win.Piquet got 5'th and won the title by 1 point.
Peterson was lightning fast and could make any car fast. Colin Chapman once saw him driving some heavy Ford and keeping up with a light sportsscar in tricky combinations of corners. When asked HOW he did it, he said he didn't know he just did it
During the end of 1978 f1 season Champman was trying to convince Ronnie to stay with Lotus. Ronnie´s terms were that he should be allowed to win the title in 1979. Mario refused and Ronnie signed for McLaren. That says it all... You have to be ignorant or an American patriot to not get the fact that the 1978 title was nothing but an arrangement.
True. Many journalists saw how Peterson easily followed Andretti and often seemed to have the better pace, and yet never tried to overtake for the lead.
Anyway Peterson was man of honour and didn't bitch and whine like a certain Alonso did when his rookie team-mate Hamilton beat him fair and square. No Mr Alonso wanted a paid number 2 like Schumacher had for years.
Sadly the 1979 McLaren, the M28 was among the worst ever, at least according to John Watson. Had Peterson stayed until 1982..
Ronnie Peterson was an all time hero of mine..I absolutely loved to watch him at Silverstone..I even used to wag school & go & watch private practice sessions at the circuit..I have his autograph twice & may be tempted to let one of them go for the right amount? RIP RONNIE! SUPERSWEDE!
Thank you so mutch for a really great tribute to Super Swede! Seeing this pictures makes me laugh - from all the good memories i have from this guy. But they also tears my heart out. I really miss him.
---
Ontopic is that the Super Swede will never be forgotten. R.I.P. Ronnie, would been a world champion.
F1 was never the same without Ronnie... A true legend that would become the champion of the world if they had todays saftey. He was top 10 of the fastest drivers in the history! RIP Ronnie!
watch him corner at 2.33 , what a driver what a legend , ronnie was my first ever hero as a child ,will never ever forget him hes the fist one i think off when it comes to raceing cars .he still has so so many fans all around the world.
thank you for posting this. I am a 43 year old from sweden and let me tell you that hes the greatest of all time... Ronnie was and is the one that you still measure racingtalent with here in sweden after all these years.
I have to admit that i was cryin a bit when i saw your pics here.... strong images indeed of my childhoodhero
Ronnie´s death was in many ways a national trauma for Sweden. No one thought he would die from that accident. Lots of people, my self included, could not really enjoy F1 for many years afterwards.
However Ronnie has never been forgotten, the legend has steadily grown in stature over the years and in a few weeks time a permanent R.P Museum will (finally & deservedly!) open in his hometown of Örebro.
Very nicely done Hannuff and thank you for the message! Seeing all these clips of R.P presented by you and others here on YouTube is absolutely amazing - a time traveller - it´s like it all comes back to you, right?

Ronnie Peterson was an all time hero of mine..I absolutely loved to watch him at Silverstone..I even used to wag school & go & watch private practice sessions at the circuit..I have his autograph twice & may be tempted to let one of them go for the right amount? RIP RONNIE! SUPERSWEDE!

turbogurrab 3 years ago
McLarenMercedes 3 years ago
---
Ontopic is that the Super Swede will never be forgotten. R.I.P. Ronnie, would been a world champion.
SaradominStrikes 3 years ago

"How much can it be worth - when Peterson never won it?"

Stirling Moss never won it either and he won 16 races out of 66 competed, an average way higher than most other champions.
Carlos Reutemann deserved the 1981 title too.

Hats off for Ronnie. A great racer who drove some beautiful cars (Lotus 72 & 79 especially).
I saw him race once - at Brands Hatch just a few weeks before he died. He was on pole.

Cheers,
boelin.
