I saw him in San Diego. My friend had free tickets and all we knew is that "Jason Mraz" is playing. I'm not a big fan of Jason but I was glad to see Brett there. I only knew "crazy" prior to that, but I became a fan right there. I'm hardly impressed by today's artists, but this guy definitely has it all, songwriting, vocals and music. He reminded me a bit of Dylan.

From what I can understand lots of people compares him too dylan, a "dylan of today". Im not an expert but must say that I think they have similarities. They both sing about things like materialism, culture, politics, love..well, life! :)

I find one thing in their writing that seperates a little though, dylan is what i feel more in too parables. Many songs are expressed in like small tales with a twofaced meaning.

I saw BD in Calgary. He restores my faith in poetic songwriting, in artistry and in humanity. His intellect paints the picture that touches the heart and opens it to fly again. His songs are musical poems like Dylan's, Cohen's, Simon's, Mitchell's. He uses all the poetic devices--metaphor, internal rhyme, alliteration, simile--with not a cliche to be found.

Perhaps I should have worded it differently. I meant to emphasize the absence of cliche--the originality--in Brett Dennen's writing, as is the case in the other musicians I mentioned.
