@MrDolecks I tried one at "music store volume" and it was great, but it's not a master volume amp, so you won't get the power tube saturation unless you really crank it. You get the compressed preamp tube sound. Still awesome though.

@vadimkela I had a Peavey Bandit II that would do that. If you switched between channels with the foot switch at a semi-high volume it would almost blow the speaker with a loud "CLICK". I sent it back to them and they fixed it. Since it was under warranty there was no charge.

You rock man killer sounds and riffage. Just wondering what type of flanger and phaser do you use? I use mainly Boss effects, which I do like, however I can never seem to get a decent retro sound out of the phaser they produce and am considering moving on to greener pastures.

@revolutionman81 hey thanks guy. personally ive always liked the mxr stomp boxes the best. the phase and flange i use are the evh models but the regular ones are just as good. the script phaser is the one id buy and set it to the slowest speed, and if you get the mxr flange set the dials to 11o clock 11 o clock 11 o clock and all the way up. that sounds even better than the evh preset on his sig. flange.

I wonder why Ed chose 6L6 tubes for this. Its kind of the opposite end of the spectrum from the EL34/6CA7 he used to use. If he chose KT66 or KT77 that is more of the middle ground between the EL34 and 6L6 and gives more of the Clapton/Cream/ Bluesbreaker sound and he loved Clapton.

Here's the thing with almost all of these Van Halen gnomes, they not only fail to attack the strings properly, but also don't sound confident in their neck hand.

When Ed plays he's completely at ease and he plays LOOSE, that's why no matter how many notes these guys get right, it just sounds wooden/stiff and lacks that attitude

I love my EVHIII and the that tone on that 2nd channel is awesome. I also have a 5150II but I like the EVHIII better. The 5150II distortion is too metal for me. The EVHIII is warmer in tone and has more meat. Just my opinion of course. Thanks for sharing your video!!

Hey Satch.....you still own this amp? I was looking into get this.  I actually had the first 5150 had and matching slant cab. I then later got a couple of other heads along the way.....now I have a MESA Triple rectifier and am selling this to maybe go back to this 5150 III. I recently bought the TC G-System and love it.....but it doesnt play nicely with the MESA Triple due to the effects loop. I always liked the 5150....should kept my original :)

Dude you should do another demo and close-mic it with a real microphone using that as your audio source and just use the webcam for the audio.

The tone still sounds GREAT though, and it sounds like you really know how to dial that amp in. I fell in love the first time I played one and plan to own one eventually.

Lol a Kami.....I own one signed by George hisself!....Nice tone on this amp,but to bad peavey will never get my business again!....I use to own a few amps of theirs,but after they brought in Geo for ideas for their triple xxx and then backed out and gave him no recognition for the idea's,they lost me...I've got a Mesa triple rec,soldano moded hotrod 50 and some killer line 6 stuff I'm really happy with.Like you though,time to sell off some stuff for a Randall Lynch box amp.Thanks for sharing!
