Love this lecture. it reveals the fraud of scarcity the capitalist system imposes on us. It is outdated and no longer useful. I feel more compassion and sadness that the people running this world are trapped in their own sick ways. Fresco is a great speaker, he inspires this feeling as opposed to feeling outrage and anger. Watching it on further, some of the people forget that these decisions in the future will be put to practice, tests, hypothesis, and adjustments amongst many. There's probably millions of engineers, but fractions working for separate governments. If they work together, no one person's work on bad choices will be approved or set into factual detail. Heck, the technology may itself deny the decision error. This Venus Project actually makes more and more sense if you watch the video more than once

What do you mean by the 'natural order'? The way of Nature has wisdom to it - such natural wisdom is evinced in the 'smart' behaviour of your cells and in the 'smart' behaviour of the biosphere. I reckon there is a kind of 'current' to this wise flowing/growing way of Nature, a current that we can sense and attempt to 'fit in' with, or go with. If/when we do, then the essential direction of the TVP will be facilitated. Naturally. Homeostasis of one kind or another saturates the web of life.

The biochemist Leslie Orgel spoke of evolution being "smarter than we are". David Attenborough often talks of 'clever' and 'ingenious' biological behaviour. Is more than metaphor. Nature may be indifferent and non-conscious but is, in terms of its constructive power in the bio-logical domain, certainly 'smart'.

theanarchist, you've highlighted a problem there, about us first needing to change. In another similar lecture, I've heard JF say that we, individuals as we are now, with our conditioning, will not fit in this new society. It's a sobering thought.

He talks about re-educating soldiers to be (e.g.) part of an environmental healing task force, but that supposes that this new society suddenly appears. I don't think it can. I fear, as JF does, that the transition must be painful

you're right about how JF has said that, with the conditioning that's being put onto the people of today, there'd be no way for us to achieve such a dream, but the change must start with education, to where we begin to recondition our future children into the understanding he's trying to bring. Now to say some more things about nature. Notice how we call the carbon cycle and the forces of the universe "nature", it is because we cannot explain them. BUT scientists are aware of this and they do say that they do not know, and they are hoping that one day they will do. The reasons that system failed is because they still relied on money, a system of exchange in which people can gain differential advantage over others. The Venus Project does not propose any subservience to anything, including machines. No one will be forced to do anything to survive. If you listen to Jacque's lecture he explains at length why we do not have equal opportunity in a monetary system. Social stratification, inherited wealth, luck, and exploitation and psychological manipulation of others completely negate this argument. Someone born into a culture of poverty does not have the same opportunity as someone born to rich parents.

Many cultures will be resistant to this change if it does not coincide with the established value system of that culture. That said, when social scientists try to work out a means of communication, they can establish common ground by the need for "clean air, clean water, and a relevant education."

They will determine what a "relevant education" consists of and what is approved or not. His rationale comes more from the study of semantics and scientific problem solving than from "socialism." What the Venus Project proposes goes far beyond "socialism" in almost every way. Rather than an ideology, they propose a blueprint for physical change of the environments which shape behavior. :)

wow Great lecture! I believe in most of what Fresco is saying, though God has yet to be Proved or disproved (I think that why he is open about it) so I chose to believe that there is more to us then just life on earth. (the reasons for this are long to explain on youtube...)

If everyone could be educated through this mindset, it would truely bring peace. I have been conditioned into different environments but I have had enough logical reasoned conditioning that makes me believe in his visions. He speaks the truth. And yet I'm still learning the likely truths that he brings forth, even though I already know what he talks about, and even though I didn't bring it up, or hear anyone else bring it up.
