The athletic comission formally investigated the matter and considered St. Pierre innocent and in addition to that saw no reason to change the result to a "no contest". The reason Penn lost is the reason there are weight-classes. Penn is naturally about 155-160. GSP is 180-185 naturally. GSP and Penn are both skilled, but one is stronger.

Actually, they probably aren't. GSP has his fight against Jake Shields. That wouldn't raise my eyebrow but couple that with the fact that the Fitch/Penn fight was for the #1 contender spot? That makes no sense unless GSP was planning to vacate the title and move up to middleweight assuming he smashes Shields. So, I'd be pretty surprised if they actually fought again. Plus I'd feel bad for Penn because stylistically, it's a really bad match-up for BJ.

There is only one fact that matters in this case:
The athletic comission formally investigated the matter and considered St. Pierre innocent and in addition to that saw no reason to change the result to a "no contest". And if people think they see something the comission missed in a 12 seconds video where the guys from the comission have propably looked at the whole thing over and over again then maybe a "think again" would be not a bad idea.

@926531 You'd think so but that's pretty unfair. Being a fighter doesn't grant you knowledge over fans by default. Many fans, refs and judges know just as much as most fighters about MMA. Observation is just as good of a tool for learning as being apart of whatever's being observed. Bones didn't know (or remember) the rules but most fans did at the TUF 10 finale. Saying "because I know and I'm a fighter" isn't good enough and quite frankly is fucking stupid.

@clipsryan no, most fans dont know what they are looking at; even fans that know about bjj, wrestling, judo, boxing, thai boxing, etc. thats why many refs and judges are exfighters/martial artists themselves. sometimes a fan and a fighter might have a different understanding of whats happening in a fight. also one of the first things you learn about teaching that sole observation is one of the worst, ineffective, and sometimes detrimental ways of learning about something, or how to do something.

@amyalewine No, it was not proven, just the opposite in fact. The comission judged him not guilty. I think the bottom line was that his cornerman Phil Nurse made a mistake but the commission saw it unwarranted to change the outcome of the fight to a "no contest".

Pen never got his hands on GSP for any grease to be noticed. Pen's a spoiled rich brat complaining after a superior fighter beat him so bad that even his reputation got punched the fuck up.
