  • yep the telephone people in Australia still can find people

    without using radios

    nothing has changed

  • I know this can sound weird but it has surprised me how natural and real and modern Mickey Rooney sounds ... much more and much better than any young teen actor!

BTW Andy Hardy movies are lovely =) thanks for the clip.

  • Mickey Rooney is awesome !!!

  • Yes Mickey Rooney is still kickin'

  • My Mom says the same thing about the Internet. Amazing.

I like the knife TR switch. I had the same thing when I was a novice.

  • Classic.

    Thank you.

  • I love Andy Hardy tell his father - Things are updating Dad - by golly its 1938! Love this clip

  • @TheDigitalDynamo Just think about it. Mickey has lived long enough to see color TV, wireless phones, cell phones, and the internet. Really puts things into perspective, eh?

  • He didn't silence the receiver on the last few transmissions. So, fake. :)

  • Before phone patch days. Would like to see the younger generation get back into amateur radio. I have enjoyed MARS and public service since the 60's.

  • Isn't it funny how it's portrayed as a 'kid's hobby,' while today it's reputation is quite different?

  • @rhwinner it was a kids hobby but now all those kids are the old codgers you hear on HAM radio today and todays kids have better things to do like texting each other every 2 minutes and playing X box.

  • This generation has the internet. The 30's generation had ham radio. Both relied on someone being "connected".

  • Lewis Stone GREAT!!!

  • @IdgitsPLACE- it wasn't an emergency, but merely 3rd party traffic... very common in the days before telephones were everywhere. The family was concerned... as for the callsigns... it was required that you give your call at the beginning and end of each transmission. Rules change

  • thst was a good little clip but i didnt get why they reapeted calls so much and how that was an eergency...

  • very good :D I am a HAM my self, but i suppose those were the old days :)

  • Cute. Not sure that constitutes an emergency... "Heaven only knows what this generation has coming." Yeah, no kidding. o_o lucky for those kids, they were a little young to see service in WWII.

  • I bet you they did think that yo could just go in buy a radio in turn it on right out of the box back then just think now with ham radio you can make contacts all over depending on what you use it would sure be fun to build one of them old radios

  • Very, very good!

  • I did a quickie search based on the calls on the QSL cards on the wall. W6DTA really does exist. Or did. He's now a silent key. I imagine the art director of the old Andy Hardy movie solicited real QSL cards, although both the calls of the actors aren't real. The VE3 call exists, but it's not Basil. The Canadian sounds like a British ex-pat.

  • LOL I listed wrong call. KC9KZT. Sorry

  • That was kinda cool.

    73's KC9KCT

  • The Canadian sounds like the Canadians on 'South Park'. LOL

  • yeah they do! lol

  • Hey OM:

I thought X calls weren't allowed except for experimental stations back in those days.

  • I remember seeing this when I was kid and it was a golden oldie back then. It's what sparked my interest in being a ham... KA2HHB

  • Thanks for uploading. Never seen this before. Check the QSL cards on the wall.
