I've lost track of how many times I've listened to this recording. This is by far the best rendition of the piece, I wish I could hear this group play it live.
I found this piece about a week ago, and I have listened to it a minimum of 15 times since then. It's absolutely beautifully written, and these musicians have done Mr. Copland's masterpiece justice. It is so heartbreakingly beautiful.
I spend a lot of time listening to music, performed myself in several wind ensembles and I compose music. I found this recording very refreshing and invigorating. I did notice (one notices things after all in listening closely) that there are intonation issues which should be addressed by the group if they wish (and I fervently wish them all the best!) to further advance their way into the world of performance. Recording has added- non musical mystery anomalies in the very low bass response
I am floored by your performance of this. You capture all of the wonder, beauty and adventure of the 19th century landscape. As a conducting student I have studied this performance frequently and find that you interpret this better than any American orchestra. Thank you so much for posting.
When I was 19, I dated a guy who was 23, listened to nothing but classical music. He started to open his world to me with this single piece. He gave me the copeland vinal set and I promised I would go home and listen.....I did, tho I thought it would put me to sleep, I laid down in bed for the night and this is NOT the music to fall asleep to, the emotion within the music itself reached out to me and I loved this piece ever since!
Thank you Sydney Camerata Chamber Orchestra that was fantastic.I love this piece and am going to see a live performance but this will take some beating
jmy children clapped at the end of this piece!! didn't even need to hook up my laptop to a better sound system to love this..a really well performed and and presented video and I must say I've never been able to persuade a supermodel to settle down and play the bass that well...Lord knows I've tried...
I've been listening to Appalachian Spring for over 30 years. The more I listen to it, the more I am convinced it is the most beautiful piece of music ever written. GREAT JOB!! You made my day!
from 14:45 to 17:48 is my favorite part... actually the whole thing is my favorite part... that was incredible!!! you should perform it on a tour if you already haven't... chord at 19:07 is beautiful... thank you for sharing!!!
This is my favorite piece of music. You've all performed beautifully. What a joyous, sorrowful, amazing piece. Your performance is terrific and nuanced, you've brought out music in this piece that I've never heard before (and I studied extensively in a musical theory class many years ago). Thank you.
I'm going to go a bit against the grain and say that while this performance is good, it's not quite what I was hoping for. There's a couple intonation problems here and there in the violins, and every so often, precision issues with the pianist. I'm very impressed with the flute and low strings, and certainly everyone does a very good job with the piece, but I'm not quite ready to give the rave reviews everyone else has.
I love how frequently they look at each other and play together. I'm gonna perform the piece the day after tomorrow, I wish we could play it that well.
I had clicked on this just because it was the whole thing and not parts, and went to other windows, listening and not watching. And I had no idea that this wasn't some ensemble from any one of the major symphony orchestras. ---There are plenty of amateur or minor orchestra versions of this that are horrible, especially with the tempos.---And as I said, I was completely surprised to find that they weren't all middle-aged professionals.
Lovely sound overall. I deeply question, however, having the violinists swoop upwards into high positions so frequently. 04:54, 05:03, 05:10, and a few other examples. It's so out of place in an otherwise fantastic performance. Phenomenal sound on the muted strings.
@S35Somua I think you misunderstand. I don't question their physical expressiveness, but rather the musical choice of obvious sliding into higher notes. Of course we should all enjoy what we play! But big, obvious slides from lower positions to higher ones aren't always musically appropriate. But it's my little quibble in a performance I enjoy greatly.
@fiddlecub I kind of like the slides. I think they add to it a little bit. Perhaps they thought it would give the piece a bit more flavor.
I heard this played by a full professional orchestra at a live performance three weeks ago. It was probably the most beautiful thing i have ever heard. I wept. multiple times.
@TheStoutKid Really? I mean... it's certainly a great moment, but out of all the moments in this piece that's the one that strikes you? I'd definitely have to go with the simple gifts section, or the very end.
such a beautiful piece of music, and so few views. Copeland is a true American icon. Please, you moms and dads, get your little ones to experience this. They and you will be so much richer.

I want to hear these guys do something think and layered and deep.
With kettledrums. I want my hair to fall out (as long as it grows back).
