  • Strangely, I can't help but be reminded of old 16-bit RPGs when I hear this theme. =P

  • Is the sound quality of the Marty really that crappy? Or is it just Youtube?

  • ^_^

  • 32 bit time line:

FM Towns Marty:first ever 32 bit console

Amiga 32CD:first 32 bit console relased internationally

3DO:first 32 bit console to sell more than one millon units worldwide

  • Something about this scares me... I dunno what. I have a pretty good supernatural sense, though. The song, something about it seems weird... =\ I can't put my finger on it.

xD Well, I don't mean to sound like some crackpot swami or anything. Something just seems "off" about this system and the song it uses... Especially that they made it so long...

  • ahahahahaha the music is ripe with "FM" synthesis

  • The beginning sounds like Baba O'Reilly by The Who.

  • Now that's just showing off...

  • this system has good games so i met get it.im a MAJOR collector

  • that song reminded me the "Moon stage" song in the duck tales nes game

  • @MiNdLeSs1234567890 Speaking of the FM Towns Marty and the NES, the controller for the Marty has a similar button layout as the NES (D-pad, Select, Start [though labeled "Run" like the PC Engine, I believe], B, and A), but there's an extra button on the top of the controller above the A and B buttons.

  • it may be nice at first, but then it's just too long.

  • i want to buy this console , can someone recommend good games for that console?

  • @uudrakgvens94 Hey there. Go to message boards and ask around. There are a lot of good games for this system, but some of them can be expensive...

  • @EricTucson After burner 2

  • wow, nice effects there :)

  • Gigawatts!

  • congrats, you're result #2 for a google search of "fm towns marty" (#1 is Wikipedia, as usual)

  • is it like a 3do?

  • It does share some similarities-- in that it's a 32-bit CD-ROM system, and its launch price was $700 US, just like the 3DO. I'm not sure if the FM Towns Marty had as many FMV games (or even any) as 3DO did, though.

  • Japanese game creators love an long boot screen.

    That's awesome!

  • The music feels very soothing & good.

  • 1 min of boot!!?!?!?! LOL

  • And I thought the 3DO's boot screen was the longest...

  • WoooW!!! 3DO's boot is long too!!! LOL

  • @nicolunacba You can access the menu by hitting "Select".

  • @nicolunacba But the boot screen is awesome !!!

  • I like this music

  • Hey, is this boot screen the same for the FM Towns Marty 1? I just bought it on eBay, but it's the original one. Is it the same, or different?

  • I believe they're the same, including the boot screen for the Car Marty.

  • This boot screen is amazing. As is the FM Towns Marty console.

  • Does anyone know where I can download CD games fro it? I got one today, just nothing to play on it... :(

  • I think you buy it on ebay.

  • They're $200 each dude, hence why I want to download them.

  • Each $200? Wow.

  • The machine was an utter flop, so noone bought them when they came out, so they're rare as hell.

  • It was a poor seller because, as the world's first 32-bit system (beating the Amiga CD32 release by about 2 years), it was prohibitively expensive and it was released exclusively in Japan.

Those are explanations for the rarity.

  • But how does that help me find a link?

  • I can only suggest searching online torrents or P2P sources for ISOs (and that's a slim possibility) or going on eBay for software (except it's expensive as you've said).

But, because the system was scarce and available only in one region, so too will be the games in the online community; there just isn't a demand, so there's no incentive for people to put them up.

Plus, some games, such as LucasArts titles, will likely be actively protected, making it even harder.

  • You can find some shitty FMTM games for like $20 on eBay. But they are really shitty. At least then, you could actually play something on it.

  • But, then again, if the only games available that are affordable are also garbage, then what's the point?

You may as well just buy an Atari Jaguar.

  • What does the Jaguar have anything to do with this? The Jaguar probably has more, better games, than the FM Towns Marty.

  • In other words, if the games that are worthwhile for the Marty are too expensive and the only games that are easily available are terrible, then what's the point?

That's what the Jaguar has to do with it.

A system is useless without good games, and this is applicable if there are hardly any good games (Jaguar) or if the good games are priced out of reach (FM Towns Marty).

  • Good lord-- and I thought cartridge games on the Neo-Geo home console were expensive!!

  • Well it could be assholes on eBay ramping up the prices because it's an obscure console.

    Same with Apple Pippin games.

  • cool. any western release?

  • Nope. Unfortunately, it stayed in Japan.

  • Yeah, Deathstar!

  • hahaha...omg. You sure you wanna see more vids of this system? It's a freakin' hentai porn box! Like 90% of the games for it are porno anime/ dating sims.

  • Xp NO!!! NEVER MIND!

  • then show the 10%

  • Man those graphics were so advanced for the day. I wish there was some vids of Marty games on youtube.

  • I like to have things boot up and play music and cool graphical effects for me, until I tell them to stop. Think of it as the FM Town's little way of saying "Thank you for rescuing me from the back of some junk store where I would have rotted away until the end of time! I hope I can make you happy and prove to be useful for you! ^_^".

Yeah, the games on this system were GREAT.

  • What were the games like on this system? Were they good?

  • Best intro till PS2,poor thing never became successful.

  • The world's first 32-bit game console, pre-dated the Commodore CD32 and 3DO by 2 years!

  • Marty wasn't really a console though, it was just the FM Towns computer put into a console casing. The CD32 was the same, just an Amiga with the keyboard taken away. The first 32 bit games system was the standard PC.
