This is the best. I'm sorry, anyone who thinks this is 'controversial' needs to step back. In 1990, Michael Jackson was just a famous singer. Just because he died weirdly doesn't mean any mention of him in history is 'controversial.' You want to know what IS controversial? If he hadn't died, he would still be a joke.
1:57 ... I love Laurie's geeky smile and laugh :') It's so cute! Also, why put so much effort into a moonwalk when Fry shows Britain how to do it so easily and effectivly!
This was done years and years ago, despite what anyone is saying about how bad it is and how disrespectful or whatever, 20 years ago was a long time ago, it can't be changed. It's just british sitcom humor, it's just what they did sometimes.
They are all respected by millions of people all over the world, this 3 minute sketch shouldn't start arguments....The're not exactly serious or anything, really, they both probably see Michael as an inspiration, just like many others do:)
I don't see how they are really trying to look or act like him.
They aren't exactly imitating him. They are commenting on his work and how it affects the world, yes, but they are also making a fairly ridiculous sketch, making more fun of themselves than doing a parody of MJ.
It doesn't feel like a parody, not sure that it should be classified as one.
@AlexdDark I see. either way my initial point was not about whether it was a parody. it is that the subject of MJ being so important and delicate, and has been touched upon by so many great comedians and other artists, so its disappointing to see Fry & Laurie waste a sketch like this. Basically I found it unintersting, unfunny, showing little or no talent, and of course showing no respect. So anyhow, it is regrettable. Still really like these guys, don't get me wrong! Peace!
I'm a student of an English teacher training college in Poland. Last year one of our teachers showed us this vid during one of our classes. Everyone was like "Oh, House!" and laughed, but for me it was the very moment when I fell in love with A Bit of Fry and Laurie. I can still remember the introduction by Hugh, 'cause we were to memorise it and say it the way he'd done it :D I love those two guys and I always will :D
@thereddragon95 Yeah thanks for that :p, shows just what a great actor he is though....in the case of his acting on House it's a genius portraying a genius
LOL this is funny :) I apologise about some of the other fans.....not all of us our defensive, humorless twats :) I've had enough of these types of fans, not all of us are stupid like that... Some fans tell me off for swearing because "Michael wouldnt like it" obviously ignoring the fact he says "Stop fucking with me" and "Fuck the press" :) TWATS. :) xx
Of course I'm kidding. I mean, as a person I'll take Stephen or Hugh over anyone else any day of the week, but I don't actually think Stephen dances better than MJ :P
Okay, not that I've got any problem with you liking MJ, but, really, how is his subject so important and delicate?
I mean, yeah, he is a good singer, a really good dancer, and, all in all, a pretty awesome person, but how, in context of making comedy, is his subject more important and delicate than any other subject?
Sure, with his demise some amount of delicacy should be added, but this sketch was made over 20 years ago. He was just a performer at the time.
@AlexdDark Hmm, well that brings up another point. Should an artist approach any subject matter with the same attitude? It is delicate to question race and surgery.
It is true that there are far more delicate subjects than that of Michael Jackson. AND they could have been more offensive.
But MJ is a controversial subject! & so much can be said about him!
This sketch has so little depth...
It is only because I hold all 3 of these artists in high regard that I felt like commenting; my opinion.
ATTENTION: When the dance routine starts, I strongly advise that you mute the video and then play an up-tempo Beyoncé song of your choice. "Freakum Dress", "Diva" and "Crazy in Love" work particularly well. Then just...just watch as Stephen Fry gets down to it.
Michael would have laughed at this. He had a great sense of humor. Any fans that bash really dont understand MJ. There are times to get upset but this is not one of them.
How insensitive of Fry and Laurie to make this sketch in the past when they DEFINATELY knew Michael Jackson might one day die in the future under unusual circumstances.
@whowantsabighug I find Fry and Laurie pretty talented comedians/ actors, but didn't know they were also psychic. That's a bit of a stretch, don't you think? :)
I still cannot believe some of the angry, offended comments of Michael jackson fans on this great sketch. I guess if you are younger than 12, such behaviour is understandable. Otherwise:get a life and a sense of humour;-).
This has to be one of the funniest sketches these two have done. And I love them all. Cried laughing... Stephen's dance... every kid is copying his look. yeah right!! hahaha
Is it me or is Stephen really huge? Apparently Hugh must be pretty tall too because the size difference isn't very big, but next to these girls, he really looks like he's a giant.
Also well, I'd watch him dance all day, every day.
This is just a little offensive but I guess it's because it is the truth and we do indeed gotta face it. Anyway, Michael is dead and even though it's harsh it was probably his insecurities fault.
I cracked up with laughter when I saw Fry making the "Moonwalk"...hahahaha!
@hannaah099 Do you think an actor pretending to kiss a butt ugly person in a movie 'has no standards'? He's ACTING. It has nothing to do with self-respect, it's all about CONFIDENCE. You've got a totally wrong view on the whole idea of comedy.

@AssholesToAshes - you're right. Michael was a bright guy and therefore probably did have a great sense of humour. Why wouldn't he see the funny side of this?
It's kind of offensive to Michael Jackson to make it seem like he COULDN'T take a joke. Come on. Hugh Laurie and Stephen Fry are brilliant. It's ridiculous.
I remember watching a bit of Fry & Laurie in the early 90's, very funny and not as low brow as most comedies. This was recorded 15 or so years before Jacko died.
