@pisapastos Cladun is a really unique and different RPG that you can get off PSN. Half Minute Hero is a cool take on the rpg genre. Jeanne D'Arc is a strategy RPG that has a great feel to it. I'm not sure what you mean by American looking...but Kingdom Hearts BBS and Tactics Ogre are both very good.

Personally, I lovvvvvvvvvvved Kingdom Hearts: Birth by Sleep. Great characters, story, super fun battle system, great music, etc etc. Looks great, too!
For those who want to play Disgaea (1) well the are 3 versions: PS2, PSP and DS... and by far the better one is the DS version 'cause it lets you use Mid-Boss, Adell, Rozalin, ect... So pick up or download Disgaea DS... And the best Disgaea 2 is the PSP version, don't anyone tell you otherwise!

the games i like are like dconline. no i dont care about batman or any of that. i just want to create my character and level up and than find armors and what not and fight like an arcade type style were im always in control of my character. like if i hit square he does a move than if i want to shoot fire thats cool to i just want a bad ass character were i can just beat the shit out of anything that comes my way and create and customize my character and earn armor
What games are like dconline for the psp or ps3 or just in general. no offense when i say this and this is my opinion. i think games like final fantasy are gay and like dragon age. the best storys ever but there almost like watching a movie. no game play. like i hate hell you pick a move than he does it than you stand there while the other guy picks a move and get beat up than he stands there and gets beat up the process just goes over and over and over again.
@DodgeCompany Monster Hunter is a great game, but it slowly degrades down to a grind fest when you get to the higher levels. You also need a friend or three to play with since solo is not the best way to play. I mean, you can do it, but it is not nearly as fun and this means anyone outside Japan has to rely on Ad-Hoc party or have some dedicated friends to play with,

@LockeVincent I tried to play persona 2 but its really hard. You pause the game to change tactics, you don't really do anything turn based the AI just follows your tactics its kinda weird...really hard also btw! I didnt finish person 3 you rely so heavy on your 3 brain dead AI allies but 4 gave me total control so id say 4 is EPIC!!!! I don't have Devil summoner 2 the price tag was to high...

@NekronX20 Yeah, it is very much so a lag fest. From the many loading screens to the lag that happens when you finish a battle it can be quite annoying. I finished the game, so I guess I got used to it.
@LockeVincent Unfortunate... the second one (jap only) never made it and I hear it is quite optimized. I have the PS2 version, but MK would make a really good on-the-go game.
@NekronX20 The graphics on the port were AWFUL. Really, it's not the type of thing you can ignore. I mean REALLY AWFUL.
Storywise is pretty weak too, but I guess you know, if you played the PS2 version. So yeah, I'm ok with just Mana Khemia on the PSP it's a little gem past it's flaws (:
-Birth By sleep has to be my favortite RPG. Great gameplay, graphics and the story is so amazing if you have played KH 1 and 2. And the Dark Cloud 2-esque way of making new spells and attacks is awesome.
-Disagea is totally amazing too, Iove that game, so much better than final fantasy tactics imo.
-Persona 3 Portable is a gem too.
-Valkyria Chronicles 2 is awesome, it has that anime-highschool theme which may be cheesy to some but I enjoyed it.
You got weird choices. And why are 4/5 of them closer to pixle-based and all of them Turn-Based, you should check out: Final Fantasy Dissidia, amazing action rpg and Warriors of Valhalla 2

Yeah, just keep in mind that Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky is a trilogy. Only the first one's out for PSP in English so far. XSeed is localizing as we speak. And the second game will have 2 (!) UMDs.
Check on GameFAQs in the "The Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky" Board. There should be a FAQ "-Trails in the Sky FAQ-" that should answer most of your question to the series.
Final Fantasy 7:Crisis Core was pretty boring, in my opinion. I'd rather play, such as the Persona games that were remade for the PSP, the Phantom Brave remake, and such. Just my honest opinion.

@inhaleexhale7302 I have actually been putting a ton of time into Mana Khemia in the last month and it has been a blast. It reminds me of Dark Cloud 2 with all the item combinations and then the great Persona-esque school sim.

I have all of the games mentioned except for Valkyrie Profile and Lunar 1. I don't think Profile sounds like my kind of game, but I think it's about time I've checked out the first Lunar. I remember buying Lunar 2 as a kid when it first came out PS1. It was one of those great games I'll never forget... (Next to Tales of Destiny) I still have it too, the limited edition version with the pendant and all the cute little pop up characters, ha ha.
Uuggh I'm still dead on a good psp rpg -_- I've tried the persona series the tales of and of course final fantasy but wen I look for one on the internet I stay on fr hours with no results *sob*

Lunar SSH was way too easy! Any veteran of the original will gasp at how the difficulty has been toned down. One other I would recommend is another PS1 remake, Star Ocean: Second Evolution. It's one of the best RPG's around and I strongly recommend it. Locke you look like a guy who has no doubt played the original, so this comment is for anyone else who is looking for a good RPG. Google it and see for yourself, there's videos on here as well.
I'm looking for an RPG with an Old school style of play (Final fantasy-ish), a fairly simple turn based battle system with lots of items and spells, but not over complex Uber-customization: I don't want to take 3 hours just learning the the details of the menu system & character options. It also can't be over the top cutesy Japanes anime style either. I'd also like it to be graphically impressive and not teeth-grindingly hard.
I know there's a ton of RPGs on PSP, but I don't think mine exists.
@LockeVincent I tried it out, and while it's not exactly what I was looking for, it's not bad at all, not overly cutesy, and a neat twist on the common style of rpg's...the graphical style alone is VERY cool. Thanks again for the suggestion!
@ArtificialFlavaFTB2 Persona 3 turned out to be pretty good. I don't know if your PSP is hacked, but if so it's worth the download. It doesn't match EXACTLY what I was looking for but it's different enough from the norm that I liked it. I'd also love to try Gods Eater burst, but my PSP doesn't like it! LOL
@nightmathzombieethan Give "Brave Story - New Traveler" a look. It has the old turn based fighting style but it's very pretty for a PSP game, and the story is pretty engaging. Or as some others suggested try Breath of Fire 3, it's an amazing game and I recommend it if you haven't played it yet. Uuggh I'm still dead on a good psp rpg -_- I've tried the persona series the tales of and of course final fantasy but wen I look for one on the internet I stay on fr hours with no results *sob*

great, great video... I had the opportunity to try out ALL of the RPGs you mentioned... All of 'em are awesomely great... but my heart belongs to Persona XDDD

Lunar SSH was way too easy! Any veteran of the original will gasp at how the difficulty has been toned down. One other I would recommend is another PS1 remake, Star Ocean: Second Evolution. It's one of the best RPG's around and I strongly recommend it. Locke you look like a guy who has no doubt played the original, so this comment is for anyone else who is looking for a good RPG. Google it and see for yourself, there's videos on here as well.

@kamar3belas The whole Suikoden series is solid. I think you can put Suikoden 1 on your PSP by purchasing it off of PSN.

I'm looking for an RPG with an Old school style of play (Final fantasy-ish), a fairly simple turn based battle system with lots of items and spells, but not over complex Uber-customization: I don't want to take 3 hours just learning the the details of the menu system & character options. It also can't be over the top cutesy Japanes anime style either. I'd also like it to be graphically impressive and not teeth-grindingly hard.
I know there's a ton of RPGs on PSP, but I don't think mine exists.

@LockeVincent I tried it out, and while it's not exactly what I was looking for, it's not bad at all, not overly cutesy, and a neat twist on the common style of rpg's...the graphical style alone is VERY cool. Thanks again for the suggestion!

@ArtificialFlavaFTB2 Persona 3 turned out to be pretty good. I don't know if your PSP is hacked, but if so it's worth the download. It doesn't match EXACTLY what I was looking for but it's different enough from the norm that I liked it. I'd also love to try Gods Eater burst, but my PSP doesn't like it! LOL

@nightmathzombieethan Give "Brave Story - New Traveler" a look. It has the old turn based fighting style but it's very pretty for a PSP game, and the story is pretty engaging. Or as some others suggested try Breath of Fire 3, it's an amazing game and I recommend it if you haven't played it yet. You could give this site a shot, it's got a bunch of PSP RPGs on it. xevon dot awardspace dot c o m/psprpgs/
