Home Sweet Home Surprised not more ice fog while out there. I used to work in gas station at Sams. I had to walk out to the entrance by college n over to the other entrance between sams and the Micheals to change price signs. One winter we had a lg spill. The nozzel came off the hose. Was a real job chopping out all the ice n removing it. Took 1/2 the day to clean. I am thank full that it was not -40 at that time. While watching the video I could almost feel how it felt to be there. Miss it so
@umbergerwill anchorage is not as cold as fairbanks, but anchorage has really bad winds during the winter, in fairbanks winter temperature is about -25 to -65 but the windspeed is usually only about 10 to 15 mph. in anchorage winter temperature is about -15 to -35 but the windspeed is usually 25 to 60 mph.
Thanks. I wanted to know because I'm moving there from AZ. In fact, I'm trying to get up there for a visit this summer to check it out before the temperature down here reaches 110+. I heard there's no place on earth like summertime in AK!
Nice video. I stood where you filmed this... when I lived there from January 1997 - August 1998. I left Fairbanks when my crazy wife lost her mind and threw me out - needless to say, our marriage ended, so I moved my ass to sunny and warm Texas.
I still remember much of Fairbanks with fond memories, however.
Say, how about boiling some water and throwing it up in the air next time it get that cold?
I used to live in Aurora on Jack Street, I lived in Alaska 12 years & loved it but moved away in 2006 after my marriage ended. Three of my 4 children & 4 of my 5 grandkids are still there. I really love Alaska but the winters--especially in the Interior--can get to you, particularly during the last 3 months of the year. Alaska is gorgeous even in the winter but I'm so glad I don't have to put up with -40 anymore, I live in the Tarheel State & prefer the winters here--I'm too old for cold!
no it don't unless you are outside for a very long time 40 to 45 below is about the most you can go normally and still be ok breathing wise for some time.
You can however catch a cold any time and at 40 below you can catch frostbite easy too if you are not properly attired.
O and how many months a year is the chena river have ice on it?

Wait... If it was "-40 below", wouldn't the double-negative mean it was 40 above?
