I broke my ankle in 3 places! I got my cast 3 days ago.. I had a semi cast called a sling for 2 weeks after my surgery (which I got a plate and 6 screws) i get the cast off in 2 to 3 weeks then getting a boot. I was wondering how long til you started normally walking again? And how bad the pain was with therapy and losing the muscle in your leg and stuff. I'm pretty nervous :(
@fablehottie You'd want to ask your doctor, but walking casts are special. So if it's not specifically a walking cast, then no, don't walk on it, use crutches. Plus your arms will get strong and hot.
aw pink cast..so lucky...when I busted my leg in 5th grade I didn't even get to choose a color..some nasty off white...I remember so scared when I was getting it taken off

I just got a new cast last week and I am getting either a weight bearing cast or a boot next but I am so scared to put weight on it! I don't know what to do.
@przybyla8 I had basically the same injury as you but i had an additional surgery to remove a nail. I started walking with the boot n crutches after bout 2 months so the doctors determined that i didnt need surgery vause i healed fast. Do you have any suggestions as to how i can do physical therapy at home? I know i wont ever be 100% but i want to be able to do some of the things i used to do
@BigT125 I would get a stretch band. Not the tube kind. They won't let me put a link in the comment, but look up Valeo Resistance Exercise Stretch Bands. There are different stretches you can do with that to gain flexibility. I don't remember them all, so I'm sure you can Google instructions :) Also, use steps. Stand facing forward toward the step, stand on it with the balls of your feet only (heels hanging off) and do lifts (standing on your tip toes basically).

thats like tryin to open a jar of pickles u cant open it so u use a blad then u get scared and use all this stuff so it dosent work and u give up u put jar down and it popps right off dammit !!

@brooklynnicolemi If you can flex, I wouldn't worry about it hurting too much! I had my cast on for a long time with absolutely no weight on it, so when I got the cast off, stepping felt like needles were going into my foot all over, so yes it did hurt! But again, my ankle hadn't bent in all that time and my foot had no weight on it. I had to walk with crutches for a few more weeks till I could actually walk. But I did adore my temporary handicapped parking placard!
@nemurad Mine stay in forever. Some cases, they go back in and take them out. I think I have screws that have holes in them (this isn't always the case for people whose hardware stays in), and then the bone fills those holes to make the whole thing stronger, so they can't take them out.
The only difference is that i got 8 screws and 2 plates. I broke my fibula and it was a double sided Fracture. =( I have to wait the whole entire month of April to try to put some weight on it. put with the help of crutches of course.

i was wondering what you did for Physical Therapy? I broke mine skateboarding. =(
They had me do all sorts of things. Balance on one foot in intervals, go up and down steps, then certain exercises with steps, balance on a bosu ball on one foot, lower and raise your heel on steps (that was hard!).
Then when you get stronger hopping and such. GOOD LUCK!

I had mine taken off yesterday but I had a pink cast on my arm. IT WAS WELL SCAREY!! I am never braking anything again! she wasn't very gentle with you :( I got a man do mine. And my arm was really hairy and dark. And my arm was brown. But I had a bath when I got home. I hate the sawing bit. I felt like it was gonna go into me : (

@nemurad Mine stay in forever. Some cases, they go back in and take them out. I think I have screws that have holes in them (this isn't always the case for people whose hardware stays in), and then the bone fills those holes to make the whole thing stronger, so they can't take them out.
