females are more colorfull and have the red patch on the bellies. if u own just 1salvini get a female they look better unlike most cichlids which the males are usually more colorfull
i have 2 salvinis 1 is 4/5 inches and the other 3/4 inches i think both males tankmates are jack dempsey 4 inches 2 female gold saums 1 was meant 2 be an acara but its def a saum also gold severum 3/4 inches pink convict 2/3 inches and firemouth 2 inches.the big salvini is boss of the tank in a non aggressive way most of the time but hides all day long and he is horrible brown bcos of it ,smaller 1 hides a little less but hardly c them and it bugs me. does anybody no why this is. thanks
Thats fairly normal. There are a few different strains, but this is the typical aquarium strain, they are attempting to breed, so that does increase color a bit
Lastly, the green plants and background seem to help!

I have seen 8" males. They are aggressive and like lots of swimming space. Very pretty.

Usually a little smaller. 7 inches would be "big" with anything bigger being pretty old and gigantic.
