@randomlight1 this is a cover of an old Hank Williams Snr song not a Sovine original, so don't talk shite and don't bother slagging off christianity. I am atheist but I see nothing wrong with modern christian values and morality. If it gives people comfort then so be it. Smartarses like you suck bell end. it reminds me of a saying I enjoy........"Fuck Off"........................you tosser.
@crestadude Although i would agree with most of your statement i would just like to point out that this first became a hit in the U.S. in 1948 by country musician T. Texas Tyler.
I may not be a very religious person, but if I make it into service i think i might just have to keep a deck of cards on hand, even if just to remind me of good ol Red Sovine
I am not in the least bit religious, political or indeed old enough to remember the Vietnam War but if this doesn't get you teared up and emotional I really don't know what will as this is surely no different to what our brave soldiers are still doing to this day on our behalf. Whether we agree politically or not we should remember that for EVERY serving soldier there is a family missing a child, brother, sister, husband, wife, father this xmas, so we should just be grateful for we what we have xx
My grandfather and I used to listen to his copy of Red Sovien's Cryin in the Chapel on Caset whenever we went out anywhere, especially fishing together, and this was always my favourite song, even though I was only quite young....it still reminds me of him whenever I hear it so thank you very much for putting it here, where I can listen to it whenever I'm missing him. He's been gone 11 years..
i remember this song i used to listen to it all the time when ever i thought of my brother i turned this song on and prayed for him to come home safely and he did. it's been two years now that's he's been home in the u.s. when ever i hear this song i remember my brother and listening to the stories that he told when ever we talked with each other.
To all vets of all wars may God Bless You all each and everyone and may all return home safely to your loved ones.
I am a proud Australian and can remember after the news ea night during the Vietnam war there was a roll call of the fallen soldiers who had died that day even as a 6yr old i can remeber the silence and sorrow these broadcasts brought
had 3 friends pass away last year and the deck of cards was there song, even 1 sunday my old reverend had the deck of cards out for a sermon rememberances remembrances
God Bless the soldiers that fight for our freedom and the VETS that have fought and died for our freedom, that includes me after I lost my left leg over in Iraq and lost all use of my right leg
As a Vietnam Vet, this always made me cry, still does. I was blessed to serve 27years in the US Army. Want to do something? How bout getting off your a**es and vote next time the is a election. You don't vote, then don't b***h. I have known many a man like this one
@rdp650 I'm an old Veitnam Vet, 4th Inf. Div. 11mos 22days in the jungle. I lose brothers almost everyday it seems, I still cry at times, guess I always will. No man who ever went outside the wire ever came back the same. God Bless the young ones, I wished they would have inherited a diffferent world!!
yanks an tans cant keep the noses outta others peoples business an look for credit for fightin wars that have nothin to do wit them ye should all be shot wit balls of yer own shite.. up the ira !!
This is the 2nd best version I have heard. I do believe though, this is the one sung by Red Sovine was when I originally heard this in the early 70's. It has been around much longer before then.
thank you for this the deck of cards it has a lot of the bible in it for all the vietnam nam vets at least they had the deck of cards.thank you from the heart
Also, since that comment got cut off, I'd like to point out that I come from a military family, which automatically makes me a "Terrorist" according to Obama. Actually, I have 3 counts against me because I'm also pro life and believe in GOD. Yes. GOD. Those soldiers (including my brother, dad, and sister!) Are giving their lives for YOUR right to diss them. How fair is that? Those soldiers are dying while you complain. You wanna fix the problem? Join the service, pick up a gun and help out!
People, soldiers, on general principal, all have the same rights. They all deserve to be treated as humans, regardless of what happened at war. So they killed mothers and children, you think they wanted to? The Vietnamese were strapping bombs to the children, they did what they had to. Its the same way in Iraq. Really, the fact that people believe the media over the people that WITNESSED it-the 300 or so that say the same thing? That's pathetic. I feel sorry for people that believe the media.
thank you for posting this. my father used to listen to this befor he passed. i haven't been able to find it since, you gave me a bit of my dad back for a few minutes, thank you ,amazing what a song can do
Smackdaddy9 you are a scum ball, there risking their life for sum like you ,so that you can have your freedom .You are the candy ass as well as a coward. God Bless all them all.
A very healing song for a hurting heart. A song from the past that still has a place in our country. I lost my brother ,a civilian, in Iraq. I have his bible to this day that he read over there and use it as he did. God bless the USA.
thank you for your comment ray i appriciate all that nato armed forces do for this planet I am from the uk and always wear my poppy with pride on remembrace sunday. Not just for the ww1/2 vets for all the vets.
I haven't been overseas yet, but I go the first week of January, But while I was at basic and AIT my pocket bible never left my pocket the whole time I was there, Psalms 91 gave me all my strength, and I mark that page with a picture of my grandpa in his class A's, he served 3 tours in 'Nam
wonderful feel good songthat always brightens my day and a great video.... thankyou so much for uploading this for everyones enjoyment...... kindest regards to you.
Thanks for having this song on....it reminds me of my daddy. I lost him two years ago. and he was a very proud Vietnam Vet, and I'm a very proud vietnam kid. I am very proud of him and every vietnam vet that is out there........forgotten. They did just what their country told them to do, and then, they got forgotten. Lets just hope that this country doesn't repeat that with our Iraq Vets..............
you have just made me a very happy man young lady...i proudly served 3 tours in vietnam..i am so glad that you were proud of your father as my son is also proud of me...Vets never forget and remember all gave some but some gave all...
THANK YOU VERY MUCH GLB FOR YOUR SERVICE. My father served in Korea and I dont feel he got the thanks he should have gotten either. Once again, thank you and God bless you.
the worst bit about that war was most of the soldiers from Australia were either conscripted or joined to "fight for their country" and when they returned home where not treated like heroes, instead were abused and spat on.
God Bless all of you, and YOURS~ my husband is a Trucker, like Red Sovine. He puts his life out for his family every day. They are trying to recruit him to truck and do TELCOM in Iraq, since he can do both. We have a 7 y/o girl, and a 4 y/o boy.
No one is innocent in warfare. Vietnamese children were wired with bombs so that when they walked up to the soldiers who were offering them candy, they could be blown up, killing the child and the soldiers.
War is Hell, as many have said. That is why we should avoid war to the best of our ability. Sometimes it is unavoidable.
However, American soldiers are among the most honorable in the world. We do not torture POW's as the Viet did, nor randomly kill civilians.
It is a shame that after World War 2, our leaders quit fighting wars to win. Korea and Vietnam were given to the enemies by our politicians. Otherwise we would have won both. The same thing is happening in Iraq now.
I know that war is a terrible thing, but there will always be conflict with humans. It's just the way we are. If we could sit down and discuss every problem that would be fantastic, but to think we can do so is naive. We should be grateful that we are so lucky to have these men and women out there who our willing to fight for OUR RIGHTS.
yeah i agree i have the most respect for the men and women fighting for our freedom and protecting us. its the other guys i dont get. they started it (i think, im not big on politics.)
Well, just some background in case you are interested...This occured not long after the Cold War, which was an era of tension between the US and Russia or the Soviet Union or USSR (Im not sure what they were calling themselves at the time.) Anyways... We passed a doctrine here in the US that said we would help defend any country under Communist threat. Well, at the time, North Vietnam was Communist and South Vietnam did not want to be, so the US stepped in. That's the condensed version.
Oh and another part about the war... most people were not in favor of it. Instead of being greated with thank you when they returned home, Vietnam vets were greeted with indifference. People were so tired of a war they did not want to be in they somewhat forgot about the service of these brave soldiers. That's why now, with the Iraq war being so unfavorable, we need to remember that our military men and women did not start it, and we always ALWAYS need to show them we are proud of them
i didnt know that about the Vietnam vets, i am proud of everyone who is brave enough to fight for our freedom and what we as americans believe in. i might not agree why we go to war and i might not like war but it is a fact of life we must deal with and i am proud to be an American. and i am proud of our service men and women.
And you couldnt have "won" korea , China came down and rolled the UN forces in the area back to the 48th ,and vietnam was also un-winnable it would remained a guerilla war and you would have eventually left anyway or been beaten out , and no im not talking down to the soldiers or their service in anyway
Really? I hope that you are not an American. Yes, God should bless everyone, and I believe that he does, but why not God bless our Vietnam vets? These soldiers fought and lost their lives protecting these freedoms we enjoy here in the U.S. They came home to a less than grateful nation. It took many years before their service was truly recognized. No matter how politically unfavorable a war might be, we should always respect the service and sacrifice of our veterans.
