I didn't, no. The fact of the matter is, some people live in fairly affluent areas. Those places are *hugely* different (read: more safe) than lower class, impoverished areas and it's not unreasonable to mention that, nor should those people feel ashamed for it. I say this as a guy who was raised in better area, but now currently lives in Chicago in close proximity to awful areas. There are places I'd let my kids run free, there are places where I wouldn't let them out of my sight.
@LandonInFlorida: Perhaps I should have made myself a bit clearer. I know the obvious that lower income areas are more likely to be unsafe than higher income areas. My point was just that she seemed to emphasize her class a bit too much, though, in retrospect, I guess that would be the point. I'm a lower-middle income kid who went to highschool in a higher-income area, so I am a bit more sensitive to...arrogant, ignoble, pretentious, etc comments in regards to class.
In this context, it's perfectly reasonable for someone to say "Yeah, I live in an affluent, upper-middle class area that's really safe. I let my kids run around and be free.. I can understand that in some places things might be different, but even people in my safe neighborhood are hysterical about this sort of thing, when they needn't be..." She was edited down to a lone sentence there, but I'd bet there was more. Some people have strong 'class sensitivity'. That's their problem.
I thought you weren't supposed to swim RIGHT after you eat because it's non beneficial that way... the proteins etc don't give you energy immediately after you eat...
Like with working out you don't eat the calories while you're running or lifting.
@MonkOfSevenSins did you read what you wrote? swimming is exercise for fuck sakes. Eat a large meal and go swim laps you will fucking vomit, just like you do with other EXERCISE
@KaylinJH My comment says that swimming is exercise. 'Not just swimming' indicates swimming is included. And if you just swim casually it does nothing...I have done it. If i did lots of laps then I'd vomit, of course.
Statistics show that children are more at risk from harm committed by their own family, I will submit that their are deranged individuals out their who hurt kids but they are not common. If you want to protect your kids, give them advice like; never talk or accept rides from strangers and if anyone touches in a wrong way tell an adult you trust.
If we really want to get serious about this issue, we should take all children away from their parents and give them to strangers to raise. Statistically, the greatest danger to a kid's health and safety has always been his or her parents. Of course, then those strangers would come to think of those kids as their own, thus making THEM the parents and further endangering the kids... Damn, this is tricky.
Wanna be a good parent? LEAVE YOUR KID THE FUCK ALONE!!!!!! Only act as a watchful eye to protect your child from anything dangerous of course! But let them grow up through experience geez
Ann will fail in the end, as her child will die eventually. I think its more about keeping the child alive untill you`ve died. Well, and hopely beoynd. Dead people rarely have voiced their opinions about life post-mordum. Nothing wrong with the instinct but smothering protection can be a worse fate than death.
I remember hearing a study where the majority of children subjected to abuse (sexual or physical) , offered drugs, or abductions or any of these fears were committed by someone the child already knew. Cousin, uncle, parent, or other close family friend or relative. "A stranger is just a friend you havent met yet" and yes i have 4 kids of my own, the more you shelter your kids the worse off they will be when thrust into the real world. just my opinion.
I will admit that I'm notoriously susceptible to stomach cramps when I swim after eating... Then again, almost any physical activity after eating causes a stomach cramp for me. It may just be IBS.
Dude one day when I was a child I shoved down a meatball sub and jumped into the pool, only to immediately crawl out and vomit it all right back up. Believe what you want I guess, but seems true enough for me...
thats what i was thinking, but its just the thing of moving about , like eating and then running or fighting, you get sick, but you could go in water with out feeling bad if you didnt swin around, just hang around in it
My mom had the right idea: let me do what I want, but make known the pros and cons to things. She did prevent me outright from doing some things, but only those things that would get me killed or cause me grievious harm right off the bat (consuming poisonous substances, grabbing red-hot stove burners).
If this bitch wants to do everything she can to keep her child safe then perhaps she should consider keeping sperm away from her crotch in the first goddamn place.

um.. thats not the reason you dont swim or run around after a big meal.. you vommit.. thats why
KaylinJH 7 months ago
@KaylinJH Swimming after you eat doesn't do a thing. Overexerting is what causes vomiting. It's the same with any exercise, not just swimming.

Dear all parents, overprotectiveness and paranoia for the safety of your children is not always a good thing!
