We dined with a party of ten in Sept. 2006 and 2007. At our 2007 seating they forgot the promised birthday cake and 5 of the 9 dishes were the same as the previous year. When we emailed and asked them to vary the menu, Thomas Keller called us personally and said, "If you don't like what I serve, don't come." We cancelled and will now dine at Gary Danko's in S.F., a much better restaurant. French Laundry is SO not worth what they charge you.
The best chef in America, and possibly the world, took time out from his busy schedule of running 7 restaurants and public speaking engagements to personally say "fuck you"?
Yea right. I'm sure he got to where he is by being petty and concerning himself with trite matters such as that. Even it did happen he makes a good point, he didn't force you in the door so shut up.
how come I find this exact same comment on like four other sites like yelp. stop going around and pasting your comment on every fucking site. he called you, be grateful that you can die there. that you have the money to do that. most people aren't rich snobs who can do that. just be fucking thankful
It takes a long time for top flight restaurants to add to and change a tasting menu. FL's menu is seasonal, so it stands to reason that you'd get 5 dishes in Sept. of 2007 that you did in Sept. of 2006.
What are you referring to redflags123? Seriously, I'm just curious. Are you critical of Thomas Keller, bistro cuisine, inspired takes on old favorites, Charlie Rose, this conversation in general? Just curious.
Charlie Rose is an extraordinary person and his show is one of my favorites. I've watched his interviews for many years now and have liked most of them. This one, however, is insipid.
Whereas I think that many, if not most, of Rose's interviews are aimed at a broader audience, this one is of and for the cafe-latte-sipping-black-turtlenecked Wall Street elite that can afford to sit at posh bistros and nibble crackers smeared with pate de fuckrealitywhilethecountrygoesdowntubes. A pox upon their house!
you know thomas keller has a bunch of cheap restaurants. bouchon is a casual restaurant. he has 3 of them. steak frite is about $15. is that what you were refering to as insipid or was there something else?
Your Post is so naive, can you really be serious? cafe-latte-sipping-blah-blah-blah, how clever are you. I'm just glad we have hero's like you out there saying us common folk, while all those elitist's are perfecting their art, I mean really who needs fine dining, or fine art, or moviemaking, of trash like youtube while the worlds going down the drain...by the way how did you make time in all your noble deeds to surf youtube?

Charlie Rose: King of the 'Leading Question'
Leading Question = a question put in such a way as to suggest the answer sought
....and that always leads in the direction of His agenda

certainly one must have money to be able to dine at higher end restaurants....but its inspiring to see the passion behind this craftmans work.
Its too simple to blow something off as elitist scum, and quite frankly the argument just gets really tired.
i liked this interview...and ratatouille was a great movie.

his point need not be clarified...its rather simplistic and in fact, just really stereotypical.
Charlie does a lot of interviews ranging from a lot of different people. I for one hope he continues to do interesting guests such as keller.
