  • i'm a big Ray Stevens fan. Ray wrote this song in 1963 and I learned a few minutes ago that this pop singer had a Top-20 hit with it in Australia in 1969.

  • @ACcountryFan And Ross used the 1968 Even Stevens Arrangement - which suits the song perfectly.

  • 'Be gay funny man"!!!! Yep, back when it meant happy...lol

  • @smacker57 I laughed at that too. Nothing wrong with being gay funny man, we still love the song and wish Ross would join up with other singers for the RSL tour for us 'oldies' to enjoy.

  • What happened to Ross D Wyllie?

    Thank you

    Miss Violet

  • I thought he had polio as a child? I have a few of his records, just love him. What is he doing now? I remember he had a son Christian around 1970/71 and another boy? after. Saw him at a market once and recognised his voice but too shy to say hello. Been looking for ages what is he doing these days? Any photos we can see and please tell him he is still thought of by people who loved him when they were 8 yrs old, now in my late 40's. XX

  • another lovely song...also love 'The Star', too

  • ANother fantastic Aussie song by a great fellow and performer. He had one leg shorter than the other.

  • every human has one leg shorter than the other

  • Good on you.

It was considerably shorter, like several inches, and he walked with a pronounced limp.

  • Agree with all the good comments about Ross D, Wyllie. Loved the shows he hosted from 1968-70. Would love to see one of his other hits: "The Star" on YouTube as well. If anyone has a clearer version of Ray Brown and the Whispers' "Pride", that's be great, too.

  • there is the star on youtube but its side show, not a clip

  • Post more Ross D. I love to see these old clips. If you have any more Ross D clips Sallie please post. I am one of his nephews 25 years old and i would love to show some of his music to friends. Kids today just don't Know about our Australia music from the 60's. I also love all the other clips you have posted.

    Good work Sallie.

  • Oh yeah, and the Easybeats doing "Peculiar Hole in the Sky" and Master's Apprentices doing "Living in a Child's Dream" and Judy Stone doing "Cajun Man"?

How about Vicki Forrest doing "I Just Wanna Stay Here and Love You" (I think) and Ronnie Charles doing "Katie Jane"?

Pretty please? Lots of sugar on top.

  • Any chance you could locate Ray Brown & the Whispers doing "Fool! Fool! Fool!" and Billy Thorpe and the Aztecs doing "Poison Ivy" and Bobby & Laurie doing "Hitch Hiker"?

And how about Alison MacCallum doing "Superman" and Yvonne Barrett doing "No Longer Part of Your Life"?

I would squeal with joy if you could.

  • Sallie6, you've done it again!

Here's yet another awesome hit I so enjoyed from my early teenage years in Oz! Yes, I had the 45 to this song, too.

Saturday mornings watching Uptight was the coolest damn thing ever.

It was good to see Ross D score a hit in his own right (as he was the host of the show every week).

    Thanks!

  • loved this song. Many thanks for posting it!

  • Still brings on a tear. Thank you for sharing.

  • Brings back long distant memories of Uptight, the late 60's Saturday pop music program on Chasnnel 10 that Ross D Wyllie hosted. I watched it religiously. Thank you for the clip.

  • @5micky2 was it called uptight or go set was go set the magazine - oh i loved ross on that show
