  • She's so prettyful. 3

  • Surfacing is one of the best albums ever... Kids now should listen to this first rather than an album full with autotune music...

  • aww i love this song , love her :)

  • "finger" - meaning blame, jeez people!

  • She does this much better live. Sarah has such a pretty voice. And correction- NO Avril did not even compare.

  • Love the song, but her lips are out of control in this video.

  • @sydwys8 I agree about thee lips here!!!

Great song, as ever, it's my first time to see the videoo,

  • 34 people aren't innocent

  • I vote Rebublican., Just kidding. I take Abilify. See my add in Health.

  • Wow!! Amazing song

  • It's always wonderful anytime I listen to this song again

  • Yet another amazingly talented Canadian - I'd love to meet one of the clowns who "disliked" this clip (disfunctional/insecure much?!)

  • I think she is wonderful in reaching heart matters.

  • avril alvigne cover much better than this really

  • @fallen22lavigne Avril Lavigne's version is better??? You are fucking crazy!!!

  • @frankman20 no had reason too, but sarah sing good!

  • despite of this music is really good to hear, at :56 there is no one left to finger?

  • what the fuck is an Adia?

  • @7070legend Adia was McLachlan's best friend. She married Adia's ex-boyfriend.

  • We are born innocent

  • One of the very best tracks off your 'Surfacing" CD. Of course, I love and respect all your work but this one is special to me for personal reasons. As always, your singing is beautiful and the song flows so nicely from start to finish! Wonderful track!

  • wha hoa naughty side at :56

  • @alexmcmahon no one left to finger?

  • @djtide blame..

  • Achingly beautiful song.

  • Crystal Michelle Rangel Miss you sweet heart.

  • I love this song. But my favorite by her is Stupid.

  • yes we were born innocent and look what has become of us.

  • The production is on this song is very good. Don't kid yourself.

  • There's no one left to finger?

  • @shaburney There's no one left to point a finger at, in other words.

  • @shaburney

    LOLOL!

  • He left, my bestfriend the bed is a thing of torcher now it has never felt so big and cold. I miss him he left his tooth brush and I'm using it trying to hang on to a ghost, if I was honest with myself he was a ghost long before he left but i didn't want to see what was the sad truth all along. I'm left with the random sock of his in the laundfy and the truth that i wasen't enough for him, I didnt make him whole like i believed he made me, this pain is all to real.

  • I don't like it when she looks at the camera. I feel like she's looking at me while she sings. Besides that, I love this song.

  • I was lauging this whole time for a reason. Right back you go, to where you first (despite any evidence whatsoever) thought that you'd "had a thought".

I KNEW I was PERFECT before I took a shower that night.

  • So thus it ended. You laughing at my Layla, and me laughing at your firm and it's ROYAL dropped cases.

I'd say you found your own callings. Carry those.

  • It was a little off-key then, wasn't it, "lock Smith" ?

    LMFAO

  • I love this song, but for some reason Sarah McLachlan seems awkward in music videos.

  • Avril Lavigne - my fav singer - did a cover of Adia, but I must admit that Sarah McLachlan sings this song much better than my idol :)) Anyways, thank Avril for helping me find such a beautiful and emotional song!

  • Adia is Sarah's best friend, Sarah fell in love with Adia's ex, Sarah's drummer.Adia was hurt and cut off ties with Sarah. This song was written as an apology, eventuality Adia and Sarah worked it out.

  • @kody1962 not sure if this is lie or not but I buy it!! lol

  • @neuspeed79 I'm glad you buy it because it is the truth.

  • @kody1962 oh wow i heard this but i thought that's what her song "fallen" was written about???

  • what is asia mean

  • i love the cover of avril <3

  • im annoyed with her pouty lips. .lols

  • "no one left to finger" I lol'd even at 8 years old.

  • @yowermutha .. dnt think she meant it in Thaaaat way did sheee?!

  • @yowermutha No way you're an 8 year old seeing as how your punctuation is better than most teenagers and young adults. HAHAHA.

  • @punkblonde007 - I was 8 when the song came out, I'm 21 at the moment.

  • @yowermutha Ohhhh, mmkay--hahaha sorry for the misinterpretation. :P

  • I love this song.. but no one knows. hahah

  • the 90s ruled.

  • Also, 02:18: Location Scout for The Incredibles (Bomb Voyage)?

  • Poor Sarah, with "no one left to finger."

  • Thats My Name :D But Its Pronounced A-Di-Yah

  • who is she singing about?

  • My mom told me that to get me to calm down when I was little she had to play this song. I knew I always had good taste(:

  • If I could choose a singing voice, I would choose Sarah McLachlan's. Whenever I hear her sing, it's not only beautiful, but also so emotional... Poor kids who don't remember this era... there were some greats.

  • I love this song

  • she's beautiful

  • this reminds me of the good old days

  • I think the materialisation of shows like Pop Idol & The X-Factor have a lot to answer for when it comes to the current piss poor state of the music industry. Why when some "bright spark" put forward the idea didn't someone say not only will this be bad for the music industry (completely trashing it) it will also be bad for television...I seem to vaguely remember a time when there wasn't so much crap on the tv at 2100 on a saturday night do u?

  • Oh god i remember this song when i was a kid! Thank god i still remember this! One of the best songs of the late 90's

  • Makes me cry

  • This song was actully writen by one of the guys in her group thats why she is singing to Adia:)

  • This is such a beautiful song, of which I cannot get enough of...

  • no1 left to finder lol my favorite part

  • I'm 14 and I listen to Bobby Darin!! THAT SHITS BETTER THAN RAP

  • i have a question, after she wrote this, did her best friend forgive her? i meant Adia?

  • it's a good thing i grew up listening with my parents's music. IT"S A GOOD THING! :))

  • magnificant! <3

  • hermosa voz y una canción muy significativa

  • She's the crazy lady at the grocery stand.

  • @spottedliver Lol, the crazy lady with the awesome voice ^5

  • excellent musical talent. The song is easy on the ears so to speak and whooing, but there has never been but one that was "innocent"

  • This song is about how she became involved with her best friend's ex boyfriend and eventually married him. This is her apology. I think it's amazing. What better way to apologize for falling for someone you probably didn't mean to.

  • Theres no1 to finger. hahaaha yea it means point blame, but it is funny. just cuz shes obviously a bi or lesbo

  • @splizzoman Sort yourself out dickhead.. she's not a lesbian but even if she was a lesbian it still wouldn't be about lesbians.

  • Thank god I'm young and I didn't miss the best era of music!

  • First time saw this music video back in 1997,at the snooker centre wit my friends..very sweet memories, now they all gone

  • Does anyone know what this song uis written about? I know there are endless interpretations, but what is the song about??

  • I love this song :') Somehow it remind me of my best friends :'>

  • "there's no one left to finger"?!

  • @xXxdorkxlightxXx

i think it means there's no one you can use your finger to point to for the blame

  • @ebiL3288 i know, but it's pretty funny when taken out of context.

  • @xXxdorkxlightxXx

    lol i know right? ;3

  • All "Building a Mystery", "Adia", "Angel", "Sweet Surrender", and of course "I Will Remember You" are some of the greatest songs from 90s.

  • there's no one left to finger...

  • Building A mystery, Adia and Angel were her biggest hits EVER!!!!

  • always love this song, amazing voice!

  • were always children, pretending were something else.... we all forget that, and thats why everyone of feels that sadness. we all feel it, but most fill that with worthless things and pointless life goals

  • my girlfriend changed her name to Adia because of this song. its a very passionate song.

  • This song is gorgeous. I love listening to it. Watching it is a different story -- her dancing is so awkward.

  • i remember seein dis song all the time on vh1 in the late 90s

  • To me this song is about someone who needs to give theselves a break

  • Always liked this song a lot, never understood what it means until somewhere I read or heard that it's about a friend of Sarah's (whose real name is not Adia), who broke up with a man... and Sarah ended up marrying him. So her friend felt betrayed. Dispelling the mystery does not take anything away from the song. It's still poignant and achingly sad. And I still love it.

  • @LeadGuardian ..... it doesn't matter what age you are to have a good sense of music.

  • lol! it sounds like "idiot dude believe I failed you"

  • this song really brings tears to my eyes her insight takes me away it's very admirable.

  • avril did it better , but you also did a great job! and i guess its your song right? BEAUTIFULL SONG <3 love it (A)

  • @martinigroot ... I just listened to Avril's cover and I cannot agree with you. I found her rendition to be flat, her voice emotionless.

  • @09Libertarian I think Avril tries a bit too hard to mimic Sarah in some parts but then does her traditional AVRILness on other parts. I like Avril's voice but would rather her just sing it her way and not go back and forth. The result is what you said. It comes out flat.

  • BEAUTIFULL

  • wow suffering artists need our help

  • go vegan get healthy sarah

  • ancient fashion but kind of CRASS RECORDS and cool

  • Thank god im not young, or i would have missed the best era of music ever.

  • @LeadGuardian Hmmm......I'm of this Generation..It's Good..Quite good..But Not the best. Even the "Best" Artists from this generation would claim that.

  • @JohnAndRowForever I never claimed this song was the best of all things. Im just glad i grew up in the 90's, because in my opinion from all the music I've heard, 60's 70's all the way to today, I still rate the 90's as the best music.

  • @LeadGuardian & I Never "Claimed" that you "Claimed" this song was the best of anything. So where does that defensive remark derive from? I merely said, that even the "Best" artists of the 90's era wouldn't even concur with you. Also, to add to that, neither would the most highly-esteemed music critics & musicologists of the last 50 years agree with the 90's era possessing the best music.

  • @JohnAndRowForever Defensive? I felt no such emotion when I typed that remark. Must be something you're imposing on it. But regardless, none of those people's opinion matter to me. Because in the end the only opinion that matters to anyone is their own.

  • @LeadGuardian Yes.."Defensive". You stated> "I never claimed this song was the best of all things." What precisely are You "Imposing" on my prior remarks/statements to cause you state such a "Defensive" remark? So you sincerely believe that> "in the the end, the only opinion that matters to "anyone" is their own"? Well if you genuinely believe that, then your perspective & perception is not only myopically shallow, it's also presumptiously unrealistic.

  • @JohnAndRowForever You're wrong. Surfacing is considered one of the best albums every written. It's frequently listed within the top 100 of ALL albums ever.

  • @AnthonyGallo84 What in the world are you talking about??

  • @LeadGuardian

the 80's was better but the 90's was also good. I think when the 2000 decade music killed everything

  • @EBKCuz Oh god! Dont put your opinion on here! People will force their own on you as if it was fact and claim they know what the experts will say even though they have never met them or will ever meet them. It's just not a good idea.

  • @LeadGuardian I'm only fourteen and Sarah is my all time favorite singer. You don't have to live through the era to love it.

  • @MCLSK1 Thats true but it sure helps :)

  • @LeadGuardian I'm 16 and I know and love this song...

  • @LeadGuardian Really I think being alive in the 60's with groups like beatles, cream, jimi hendrix

  • @LeadGuardian im young but im not missing it !! the best music is always the oldies!!

  • @LeadGuardian Not really, all we have to do is look up the songs online. Your generation is always uploading the songs. You would be surprised to realize how many of these views are actually thanks to the younger generation. I'm pretty sure there are many newer artists who sing this style of music as well, you just have to look for them.

  • @LeadGuardian I don't believe for a minute you have to bee old to appreciate good music. I'm in my twenties and if its good music i'll like it and if its not I wont...it's not a question of age, it's a question of taste!!

  • @TheGhostofCasper It wasn't a statement of age as much as it was a statement of being alive at the time the music was released.

  • what a beautiful song

  • i still love this song after all these yrs wish i could sing this like her but i cant.

  • i listened to this wonderful voice as a child and as a young adult , i think i love her even more. God bless those with TRUE talent! her voice is angelic !

  • because of Avril I met Sarah Mclachlan, thank you avril ;D thank you sarah for this song and all your discography coz I'm the biggest fan of ya ;D

  • MUITO BOM!

  • It looks like she's dancing in reverse.

  • This chick is beautiful and really talented.

  • 'cause we are born innocent..

  • How do yo go about disliking this song? This is such a beautiful composition. You would almost need to be a hate-mongering, devil worshiper to allow yourself to click the mouse.

  • Thomax brought me here

  • I soo want to kiss her lips, and I am a woman.

  • @matacun98 yes, not the best wardrobe or dancing - almost awkward. but the voice is beautiful

  • As much as I do love Avril, no one can beat the sentiment that comes across in Sarah's voice. She wrote the song after sleeping with and then marrying her best friends boyfriend and the emotion is there 100%. No one else in the world can possibly emote that level of guilt when singing this! If you listen to the live version on her Mirrorball album, it has the same emotion. Something rare for live music which the artists perform again and again.

  • Ahh the 90s, when you could stand in a crowded public place and stand still while everybody moved around you in fast-motion.

  • My wife named our daughter after this character... Best name ever. Baby girl, daddy loves you. <3

  • I randomly heard this on the radio the other day. I'm 23, and though I had no prior knowledge of who sang it, I knew I loved this song. Very happy to have found it.

  • @to0ty very interesting, I too am 23 and love this song. Alright the jig is up stranger, who are you working for?The CIA? The Russians?

  • @to0ty Been a huge fan of Sarah for years. You are lucky you found her. She is very talented.

  • Ah the 90's, her best song!

  • avril lavigne sings this better :)

  • @astrosperla Never.... Sarah has better voice... 100 %

  • @astrosperla HELL YEAH! ;)

  • @astrosperla sure ! Avril's version is so much better <3

  • @astrosperla i agree avril's version is well better

  • @astrosperla not even close

  • Beautiful...thank you......

  • She has basically the perfect voice. Strong and soft simultaneously.

  • Beautiful song!!! Reminds me of my Paul R.I.P. babe.......... Always and forever! xx

  • theres tons of feeling/passion as well as talent within this singer! I dare anyone here to show me a performer today that can pull this off......Dan

  • it really makes me sick that people can think avril lavigne sings this song better than sarah. all of you saying that must be little pre-teens who didn't grow up listening to sarah's beautiful voice. grow up.

  • it's better when Avril sing it, Avril i LOVE, i know that i'm a girl but MARRY-ME!

  • Avril brought me here :D

  • sorry, who the F is dan?

  • i was named after this song, i don't like it that much, it makes like no sense and the video is weird

  • @Joy314k it makes sense to me when I listen to the lyrics... not sure about you.. but if you look up the artist and the meaning of the song to the artist it has many meanings, just like all of Sarah's songs do, the songs are open ended and can relate to many things.

  • @Joy314k and to give you sarah's meaning of the song... she wrote it to a friend of hers (she changed the name to "adia" though so it would be anonymous) who was upset with sarah because sarah fell in love with "Adia's" ex boyfriend. The song is sarah saying I'm sorry.. but I didn't do it to hurt you, please understand.. I still wanna be your friend.. etc. I love the lyrics to all of Sarah's songs.

  • Who the hell is dan?

  • Thumbs up if you came here because of teenage dirtbag

  • @MonkeyGirl91121 What's the link with that song?

  • jesus this song makes me so sad for no reason, gotta love it!

  • adia is my nameeee whatttt :DDD

  • @horsegirlhorsegirl are you a part of house Burg-Walrus too? yay!

  • what year did this come out in?

  • freaking luv her.....

  • What does Adia mean? Is that a name of a person?

  • This is my shit low key, I used to wake up to this shit when I was in like 7th or 8th grade, yall muhfuckas better not tell nobody I was here haha

  • avril lavigne's cover is better, in my opinion
