In Rio alone more people died from violent crime a day than sometimes in Iraq. You can't explore Rio by yourself you always have to stay with a big group of people near the downtown core because it's so easy to get kidnapped and helped for ransom, hepatitis A/B epidemic levels are amongst the highest in the world.
