Hi Karen Thomas. Remember Garry R B. Qbn Gun Club. Harmen etc, JJ Cale Rules and will be a part of us forever. You are a Lady. Remember Kenny Rogers just before you left for Victoria. and you cried real tears from the softness of the pretend hard exterior. 30/40 Years AGO. Still Love You Sailor Lady. xxx Garry.xxx
this guys brilliant. his style is always consistent - pure groove & feel. some guys write in such a high vocal range that they cant sing it live or are croaking by the end of the set with 20 more shows on the tour! lol! JJ has probably never had laryngitis from singing - probably a lot of cotton mouth! And the royalties from 'cocaine' and 'call me the breeze' etc... set him up early for creative freedom & notoriety. Yep. Brilliant
Got into JJ in about 74. Never listened to his music before midnight. It was always a good way to slow down after a wild night. Great to listen to even at "late night" volume. Awesome music.
Leon Russell was born in Apache, Oklahoma and lived there until he left for California. I'm from Lawton and met him when I worked for Willie Nelson and Waylon Jennings.
For sure. Eric Clapton as well. JJ Cale in his own man in his own time, A true original. He arranges and produces all of his cuts. No fanfare, it's all about the sound and the message. He hates the business and showboat side of music.
LOL, I am an Okie and been watching JJ since the 70's. Saw him do Cocaine and After Midnight years before Clapton snapped em up. He was so far ahead of his time. I love Carry On and some of his earlier tunes. Another band you should check out is Dwight Twilley, they are also from Tulsa and just as relevant. Something about Okla and producing musicians, we damn sure got our fair share!
Merle Haggard is actually from California, born in Bakersfield. Okie is just an abbreviation for Oklahoma. JJ was acutally born in OKC, but raised in Tulsa. Leon Russell born in Lawton, also raised in Tulsa.. Don Cherry father of Eagle Eye was from OKC. Used to go to shows a lot at the Boomer Theatre, saw some great acts, Steve Forbert when he started out, got him to sign his first LP, gave em out free at the show! Dan Hicks was memoriable! As sarcastic as Milton Berle.
Tom Petty just played this on his sirius/xm show. The album version is longer than this. J.J's music is so fun to jam to. He makes a musician want to jump right in with the band. Thanks for the post.
Christine is ALWAYS with JJ in recent years, Eric even paid a compliment to her after their tour. She is a nice guitar player and is learning at the feet of 2 masters. I expect some great things from her when she finally makes her debut CD, she is also easy on the eyes, always seems happy.
DUH, My bad. Christine has her own website and has released a lot of her own music, worth checking out. She is a very talented musician and has been with JJ for about 30 years now!
man i love to listen to j.j. even though other great artist like eric clapton one of my greatest idols and lynard skynard made great recordings from j.j.cale lyrics when j.j. does it,it just comes alive. j.j.cale a master of the art.thats all you can say.
ask ten different people who jj cale is..try it...you will get ten different answers, and the one who gets it right,is the one u should swap records with :D..salutations jean jacques, the king of cajun cool..
benzart, jj doesn't stand for jean jacques, this is a big misunderstanding made up by a french reporter, his real name is actually just "john" but since there already was a artist called john cale (from the velvet underground), john's manager decided to use the stagename JJ Cale ;)
Nobody loves JJ more than The Beat Beggars from Rochester, NY... find us on youtube...many JJ songs with some unique renditions. "I don't care what momma don't allow. We're gonna play JJ anyhow..."
Cocaine is one of his less interesting tunes, to the real Cale fans ...but it gave him the boost he needed to get his good songs out there . He's a treasure .
Traveling light not 'lights' Anyway a great driving song.. listenes to this for years and it still sounds fresh and well cool !!( In Scotland) Funny thing THIS but I was doing some work for an american couple over here near Aberdeen a few years back and we talked a lot about music swapped some music tapes etc etc I Introduced them to the Scottish band 'Runrig' They were blown away by them!! I was blown away by the fact they had never heard of JJ Cale !! phew !! well they have now for sure lol
A former co worker and I traded some music I gave him WP and he gave me some JJ Cale cds compilations and some other JJs stuff, I can not thank him enough for showing me JJ, this is why utube is so great
Always loved this song don't care if there is video or not JJCale has always ruled in our household!!!! Have been listening to him since naturally came out

@yoseiki Eric and Mark, you should give JJ half of your money, since he was the one who gave you "your" sound, the best part of it, I mean.
