  • Thank you for the great video and ideas. After 9 years abroad and after changing 3 countries i took the decision to come back to greece. main reasons: family, friends, strong relationships, the sea, the sound of cicadas, the food...exactly as Onic is describing...Thank you for optimism and great thoughts...

  • If you enjoyed this talk, you may see my TEDxYerevan - small country BIG BUSINESS talk

It's featured in my [onicpala] youtube channel

  • Το σεμιναριο με πιο σκοπο εγινε και ποιος μπορουσε να το παρακολουθησει?

  • Simplistic views indeed. Living in Greece? No. Holidays in Greece? Yes. You can still enjoy tomatoes and sunny beaches.

  • @mariapage147 Life is really simple, but we insist on making it complicated. Did you complete your happiness chart? It worked for me!

  • @onicpala I did but I have more reasons to stay in England than go back (for now at least). This doesn't mean that life here is perfect or that I won't change my mind after a few years. I might need different things in 5-10 years.

Anyway. It's nice to see people trying to make things better in Greece for the next generations.

  • stupid talk!

    Keep living the dream.

  • The suicide rates argument? C'mon...that has been beaten to death already. Do you really think that suicides are reported as such in Greece?

Sorry, but Mr Palandjian's views are too simplistic for my taste.

  • @MariaRigaki What about his other arguments? In any way, we are free to choose and that's what mr Paladjian is suggesting.

  • @MariaRigaki Maria, you're welcome to leave then. This is supposed to be a motivational speech. People who can't live 'outside the box' and cannot be convinced - should really keep their negativity to themselves..!! I've read a few of your comments here and have come to the conclusion that. you're a depressing woman..!! I guess that's what 'gloomy' london does to you...!! If you think Mr Palandjian's views are simplistic then stop argueing about it and leave..!

  • @OpinionName Amazing how you managed to read "some of my comments" while I made only ONE and from that you figured out that I am a depressing woman. Thanks, you made me laugh out loud :-)

I would suggest that instead of calling people names and making projections to try to read more carefully before you comment.

    Take care...

  • I was truly inspired by your statement "it does not matter who made the mistakes. We're here to fix them". This is so true for most countries right now!

  • Excellent!

Your talk pretty much sums up how I feel as well. You remind me of my lonely weekends in the US and why I decided to return to Greece. A lot of our fellow Greeks simply do not appreciate what they have. People have to start believing they are part of the solution. Things will not change on their own. Please continue to give people inspiration and hope. We all need to get out of this bad psychology, which is your worst enemy in this crisis.

  • What was the point of that speech, exactly? Seriously. I know the TED conferences (granted, this is a TEDx - an "independently organized" poor man's TED) are exercises in self-aggrandizement but they do tend to get some interesting speakers. This guy on the other hand...20 minutes of trite self-promotion with the odd "life lesson" thrown in for good measure. Yes, Greece has good weather and tasty tomatoes. We know. Well done Sherlock. Let's all hold hands and feel good about ourselves

  • Who is this guy, and why is he addressing Greeks in English? This is the lowest-point ever Greeks could ever reach: having venture capitalists preach them about the beauty of their beaches and the freshness of their tomatoes. If only there were some with fresh tomatoes in their hands in this room...Perhaps Dr Onic has already bought future options for the tomato market.

  • Dear Onic. You are more Greek from many of us ! Just stay away from Politics ;-)

  • Amazing speech, Onic! Thank you for reminding me certain good things about this country. It is true that some times Greece hurt us, but the time has come for us to do what you said in your speech, it doesn't matter who made the mistake, we shall try to fix it!

  • .....

That's why we want to leave this place.

Tomatoes with nice taste can be found elsewhere too. Try a gourmet place in NYC or London. And my kid will not worth the terror of a forest fire next to his house. No matter if i have to excuse the mistake of a bribed immigrant that put this fire to create development land for his boss.

  • Onic, this is a great speech!

But you were not here to start your career and feel the stupidity and commercial use of the business owners, and sometimes their greed on money they were making on you 12 hour daily work.

I am not going to show you a picture you never saw, and you will never. But after ten years of experience in this country I have changed 6 jobs as all of them closed or bankrupt and I am in the same level and never felt the happiness of producing or completing something.

  • Thank you Onic for this inspirational speech. I will retain your quote "it doesn't matter who made the mistake, we are here to fix it". I see comments on Greek social welfare and the difficulty to create jobs and businesses. All starts at the individual level. Fix it! Onic and his child went to the mountain to plant new trees, it took them time and effort, but they did it. It's up to each of us to stop seeing only the dark side of the coin, there's always a bright side. See it.

  • FYI Video deserves subtitling. More native non-english speakers must watch this.

  • @codesennin non-english speakers wouldn't be thinking of leaving Greece in the first place. :P

  • @kostakisoho hahaha maybe so, or is it? :)

  • Onic,

Thanks for reminding me why I am HAPPY to be Greek and why I am GLAD to be living in Greece. However hard it may be at times, I am pretty confident that its in our hands to promote the changes we want to see in our country.

Nena and yourself are amazing parents-hopefully there's more like you around to teach their children morals, ethic and filotimo which are the most important traits of our nation!

    Well Done!

  • Keep spreading the word & the optimistic view Onic! We are in desperate need for it!

  • @apogeio I always believed that it doesn’t matter what you do in life, but how you do it and why. I believe that it's time to rethink our own “how” and “why”, to learn from mistakes, correct them and move forward. This challenging period will serve as a catalyst for re-discovering our values. We will ultimately resurrect this country and will be proud of it once again.

  • Onic's speak is about values and made me think what truly matters in out limited life... Onic's speak is about values and made me think what truly matters in out limited life...

  • A message if hope and optimism for any country facing social, political, or economic crisis.

Touched, Onic. And thank you. David Ch...

  • Αλλά ακόμα και στον κοινωνικό τομέα υπάρχουν καθημερινές ενδείξεις ότι η κοινωνία μας νοσεί και κάθε άλλο παρά ευδαιμονική είναι αυτές τις τελευταίες δεκαετίες. Τα καλά της χώρας μας τα ξέρουμε λίγο-πολύ όλοι - το θέμα είναι πως θα διορθώσουμε τα όλο και περισσότερα κακά, και πως θα ξαναβρούμε την "ευδαιμονία" μας;

  • Well done, Onic! A true reality check and call for making the change.

We need a revolution of common people. There is no fooling oneself anymore. Life is here, right now, every day, day by day. What we have, is all we have. And if we want something better, then we'd better fix it. It starts from everyone.
