i have a baseline, old baseline 2.0 ghz, and i run final cut PRO, not even express, and it runs and renders speedy, and even when i had 1GB of ram it ran just fine. now i have 2GB, so it runs smoother. but the 2.4ghz that i use it school, even with faster ram runs not a noticeable speed difference.

I have a G4 eMac with 500mb of RAM and it runs GREAT! (Tiger)

I also have a Intel 2 Duo Core with 2Gb and again it runs great. (Leopard)

It really depends what OS you are using, but for the stuff that you do on a G4, it's more than enough, Macs are made balanced like that, your machine will not ever slow down, it will only seem slow in comparison to the new ones.

I really want the 24inch 2.8ghz w/ BTO 8800GS, but that means spending all my summer earning on just iMac and food (I'm a college student). Don't know if I should take the risk since this is my first mac. But for other macs: don't really need a laptop, mac mini has very low speck for price + not good graphics, use 22inch monitor currently so can't get 20inch as it will be downgrade screen size wise.

so yeah, trying to decide between iMac 24inch or wait for next mac mini upgrade. Any suggestion?

The 8800 is actually becoming outdated really fast. I recommend the high end 20in but if you want a bigger screen, get the low end 24inch. If you game in boot camp, then get the 20in or low end 24 because they are much better for gaming as well. Check the stats for yourself. Youll find that even though the 8800 has more memory, it has a lower processing speed, therefore a lower framerate.

I'm gettin the 24 2.8Ghz. I played with it in the Apple store in SoHo and it's just DRAMATICALLY larger than the 20inch ones. It's just irresistible. I wanted to get the 15 inch MBP but after seeing that in person, I got turned off by the small screen. It's not for exactly what I want to do, play DVDs , Play Games n such. I wish I could afford the 3.06GHz model... that would be great because it comes with a 8800GT i beleive... But great video, enjoyed watching it ...
