  • omg! luv ur tutorial tfs,u r very precise n get right to the point, awesum talent ,will subscribe!

  • Wow O^O i love this tutorial :3 (and all the others XD)

is it okay if i use the pattern and modify it for a school project i'm doing ?

I will obviously state it is a pattern from you modified to suit my specifics?

    (sorry if this is obnoxious) ^^;;

  • @LucidStarDrops Sure thing! I would love for you to use it for a project :) Let me know how it turns out!

  • What type of interfacing did you use??

  • @C00k13L0v3 It was medium weight iron-in interfacing :)

  • do you absolutely need the interfacing? i don't see what it does? help please?

  • @livthepig The interfacing was totally needed for my bag because I used cotton fabric. The interfacing is used to make the fabric sturdier and keep it's shape. WIthout interfacing the bag would have looked really slouchy and would have probably ripped after carrying books a couple of times. If you are using very sturdy, heavy weight material then you can get by with just interfacing the bottom and sides.

  • can't wait to try it out!!!!!! I'm going to add more pockets because its going to be a diaper bag for my friend.

  • wish I had a sewing machine I'd try making stuff that you have shown here. One of them would be a messenger bag.

  • To make a cooler bag for your lunch etc. you can buy the cheap windshield shades with the insulated aluminium and line the bag with it.

  • this is my favorite bag tutorial!

I have a question though...what is your trick to sew the sides and bottom to the front and back to have perfect corners??? I did it once but have tried to do it again and it did not come out right...could u make a video of how to do this?

Also i love how you explain putting the zipper in ....Muchas grasias (thanks so much)

  • Hey, I'm trying to make the bag, but I'm a little confused. The graphic for the pattern says the back #1 and back #2 need lining and not interfacing, but I noticed on your patterns you used in the video that they say interfacing, and that you ironed interfacing on those pieces. So... interfacing or no interfacing for back #1 and back #2?

  • @kdkid13 Thanks for pointing that out. I made the graphic really late at night and typed L instead of I. Cut out interfacing for back #1&2 instead of a lining.

  • LOVE IT!!!

  • Is this sturdy enough for books?

  • @readwriteread I put two textbook sized books in it. The bottom saged a little bit, but it help up. If you are worried about it you can make a plastic insert to put in the bottom for added strength :)

  • Love!

  • @WastedAvery Hehe thanks :)

  • Best tutorial ever.

  • @thesewinggarden Thank you! Glad you liked it :) I worked really hard on that project/tutorial.

  • Your tutorial is so awesome! I think I'll give it a try, since my new education starts in a few months.

I hope I can find some awesome fabrics!

  • Thank you for stopping by my channel, you are so talented an I love ALL your tutorial. I just took on sewing fairly knew and a beginner in using patterns, but you make it seem do easy... I just wanted to let you know I appreciate you taking the time to make tutorials for a beginner in sewing. thank you ;)

  • @Chevy143r I'm so glad you like my tutorials! I do my best to make them easy to understand for any sewing level :)

  • Can you make some tutorials for other kind of bags, like back bag?

  • i have those sheets! wonder if my son will let me use them they dont fit his bed anyway!

  • not to be mean or anything i love this tut i made 10 but there was one little prob the pattern for the back front flap it said 4 Exterior even though it really 2 Exteriro and 4 for the lining lol you kind made a mistake but that ok we all make mistake :) and also you kinda also made a mitake for the strap it not 1 L it 1 I lol

  • @sasukechan77 Opps...you are correct. Sorry about that. I made the graphic late at night. I'll put annotations over it to correct :)

  • Comment removed

  • AWESOME!! .. Really cool vid!... One Q: Do you have any advice for the strap? I mean i want to made a strap that could be resize easily... Without using extra pieces other than the same fabric... Thanks so much! And keep on!

  • Hi Whitney !

I'm a about to start, but just one little question:

For the strap, isn't necessary interfacing ??

This is the best tutorial for a messenger bag in whole YT :)) thanks!

  • @ladolly78 Hi, glad you like the tutorial :) I interfaced the strap because I wanted it to have extra strength for when the bag is full.

  • @aglanceatmyworld OK thanks !! :))

  • Thank you for the great tutorial!

Is the interfacing stiff enough to firm up the shape of the bag? With the bags I have made, I find that even using thick fabric is not enough to help a purse or bag keep its shape while I am wearing it. I have also never been able to achieve the thickness and protection that a store-made bag offers. Do you have any recommendations on how to achieve a protective, sturdy shape for a messenger bag? Or a preferable fabric type?

  • @cindiasaurusrex There are different weights of interfacing, so using heavier weight will help and obviously the heavier your fabric is the stronger it will be. Store bought bags may be starched or have inserts (cardboard or plastic) in the bottom. But even some store bought bags don't hold their shape well...I think it's a matter of trying out different differnt fabrics and interfacing and seeing what works best with each purse design.

  • u made my day as usual :D

  • Hey, great tutorial! :)

But I was wondering something about Etsy.

How do you send stuff out?

    Like, I'm new to selling.

Someone actually bought something of mine.. Now I don't know what to do?

I know it isn't really related to this video.

    I'm just wondering...

  • @jerichomattt When you sell an item you should get an email notification from etsy and one from paypal after they've paid. Both emails will have the buyer's address. Make sure the address is the same in both then package the item up and mail it. I always mail things within 2 days of receiving payment. I also like to send the buyer a message on etsy telling them when the item is mailed. Hope that helps.

  • This is an awesome tutorial! Im definitely going to try this one day!!

  • Haha!! I love these sheets!! I love collecting them too! I have some Capt America & Transformers that I adore!! This tut was so detailed and easy to understand! Great job sweety!! oxox Tany

  • @gothictany73 Thanks Tany! It was hard trying to keep the tutorial from being super long but still getting as much info in as possible.

I have two different TMNT sheets, Superman, care bears, and smurfs...all thrifted :)

  • Omg this is amazing!! And you look adorable in your glasses!!!

  • cowabunga!

  • so am gonna make one! bless me lol! but i dont get sheets like what you have , here. this bag is so cute. and thanks for sharing.

  • i just started watching your channel and im a begging sewer. any tips because this is a bit advanced for me.

  • @hibellla Even if you are a begginer you can make this, you just need time, patience and follow every step!.

  • @hibellla A long project like this can be a bit overwhelming for a new sewer. You may want to do a few smaller projects first and once you are more confident with your skill try something like this. Don't get discouraged if a project doesn't work out the first time...happens to all of us. That's why if I'm trying a new project that seems complicated I'll make it first with fabric I care less about...just in case I mess up. Hope that helps! Have an awesome day :)

  • COOL!

  • I think i may have the matching pillow case to these TMNT sheets! haha It was my hubby's from when he was a kid, his mom gave it to me for "safe keeping" This is such a great tutorial.

  • Amazing! I was just thinking on the bus about making a messenger bag for this summer when I have marching band! This is perfect since I'm a marching band Geek! :)

  • @billkaulitzluvagirl Hehe awesome! I was in marching band from 7th grade until my 3rd year of college!

  • @aglanceatmyworld We marching band geeks do it best! :P

  • hahaha thats soo freaken awesome!!! :D

  • Love it!!! I've been wanting to make one cause my dad gave me some of his old work pants so their pretty sturdy so I think they would be perfect to make bags out of!

  • @kittensinnocence I made a tote bag a few years ago by piecing together some wrangler work pants...it was really sturdy! I carried the bag to class for a while and to the Medieval Faire a couple of times :)

  • could u show how to start and finish sewing?

like i know how to sew using a sewing machine but wat do i do when im starting and when im done the part i want to sew??

  • I think the glasses are cute! Obviously they are not for everyday wear, but are cool when you are in a geeky mood.

  • i remember my brother had those sheets as a kid lol

  • @sweetypie474 Awesome! My husband had the sheets as a kid too :)

  • @WhitneyFletcher Opps...I was signed into the wrong account... I meant to leave that comment from this one :)

  • I love the bag and you made the tutorial super easy and uncomplicated which it could easily have turned into.

But I'm also in agreement with a lot of viewers that the glasses don't work for you. I think you have too pretty of a face to hide behind something so big.

  • Awsome tutorial! - I've been looking for a messenger bag for a long time, but could never find one i loved, so now I can just make my own!

    Thanks for sharing :D

  • Haa u two are so cute lol:)

  • Great tutorial. Great Bag (maybe not this fabric, but the shape is great)

    And one more thing...

This glasses frames aren't for You ;/ Your pupil should be in the cneter of the glass, unless Your sight will damage more ;/

Hope You're wering them only for upglance Your look ;)

  • @brandonfromeraklion I knew not everyone would like the fabric, but the bag can be made on any fabric. I was going to make it in a khaki color (and put pacman patches on it), but was snowed in and couldn't get to the store.

My ears aren't even so I wear my glasses weird (the pair from the video and my two personal pairs). My eyesight hasn't changed in the last 5 years so I figure I'm doing pretty good. Thanks for the concern though.

  • @aglanceatmyworld

:) Khaki one would be perfect ;) Maybe I'll try to make one for myslef to ;)

And I just wanted to notice that those frames are to wide for You ;)

  • This is so awesome. Thank you so much. I need to find Strawberry Shortcake or Taz Mania Devil fabric and it is on. HA HA.

  • I have had the exact same sheet i got at the market like 5 years ago and have never found anything worth cutting up the sheet for. UNTIL NOW! Definately Making this.

    Thankyou as always Whitney!

    x

  • Awesome tut. It rocks. Could you add batting?

  • @amomschoice Of course! You could add batthing and turn it into a laptop bag or diaper bag or whatever you want :)

  • @aglanceatmyworld Opps batting not batthing.

  • Awesome tutorial, you make it look so easy :) TFS!

  • @CraftsbyKawaiiSaru Thanks! BTW I've been meaning to go a cooking video from your book for two months...been putting it off because I hate filming in my tiny kitchen. But I'm going to try and make the oatmeal cookies for this weekend's video :)

  • @aglanceatmyworld Awesome, I think you are going to like them, that is my favorite cookie and so easy to make :) ~Ashley~

  • @CraftsbyKawaiiSaru I love the cookies! I'm working on the video now...it will be up tonight or tomorrow :)

  • wooo. I really like this tutorial! Your so awesome for taking the time to make these helpful step by step tutorials! <333

  • I absolutely love this! I will definitely be trying this one out at home.

  • @RasputinaMina Awesome! Let me know how yours turns out :)

  • OMG, awesome tutorial! I suck at making straight lines that are perfect, but hopefully I will improve! I will attempt this bag soon, I look forward to your tutorials

  • @danzdiva10 Mine weren't always that straight...came with practice. You might check out the video I posted a couple of weeks ago about marking measurements on your sewing machine. It can help you keep your fabric lined up better which will make your sewing straighter :)

  • this is so cute (:

  • You're my seamstress idol :)

  • @yoliebean Aww thanks! :)

  • OMG i love the teenage mutant ninja turtles!!! they r my heroes!! thanks for the tutorial!!
