This in computer terms is called D.O.S (Denial of Service)...When you send out a barrage of e-mails to someone in a huge amount the servers can't keep up with it and shuts down the whole site. It has been done with only a few people/hackers sending a lot of e-mails to one address before so it can actually work to shut their site down.
