@stallionsm8atwill No bodynuilders use the smith machine allot cuz it is better consentration on that muscle, with free weight its a combo of balancing the weight as well, with smith its all focus on the chest.
There is nothing wrong with doing this exercise on a Smith Machine. It is called variation, changing your workout, etc. Moreover, when he pauses at the bottom, he must use his strength to get the weight up. Thus, what he is doing is harder rather than using momentum or bouncing weight.
@m5p944 Dexter has easily repped 405 on the flat bb press free weight. Let's remember two things ladies: He is the only pro to first compete as a BANTAMWEIGHT then compete as a pro > 225lbs! Second, Dexter is in his 40's now with many years in the game but is looking at longevity. Jay Cutler does not lift the same, as much weight and uses more machines! Yates & Coleman were rare massive mega weight smashing beasts but were forced to retire with multiple musculoskeletal injuries!
@dnice91369 " Yates & Coleman were rare massive mega weight smashing beasts but were forced to retire with multiple musculoskeletal injuries!" can u give me some more info? Just want to gather more info and knowledge 'bout using too heavy weight. Thank you
Oh come on Dexter gosh a man and hit your chest and not rest it whe you come down gosh. and i dont care what anyone has to say, just think about it, he didnt even come down where your supose to.
@jaxcity17 lol...come down where your supose to? your suppose to come down where it feels comfortable, not how it looks, once you feel a stretch in your chest, go up and contract, and slow negative on the way down, restarting the rep like he did on every rep makes sure he uses his upper pecs 100 percent instead of being locked into a rhythm. I really want to see what your response to my comment is, are you going to be ignorant and say im wrong? Or will you man up and admit im right?
@whosnexttt oh really, give me one time where anyone has every said the proper way to do bench press is to come down where your supose to, its never been said, ok you are supose to come all the way down so you know for a fact that you get the full stretch in the pec muscle, and by resting like he did you burn out quicker and dont keep the tenchin needed to really bulk up the chest, ok pall, im not just some amature i actually do bodybuilding, ok i may not be pro yet ok.
@jaxcity17 actually he Charles Glass has Dexter doing these incline power rack presses dead stop at the bottom so all the tension is on the pecs, when you stay in a rythm you tend to use other muscles(secondary muscles) through the course of the set, thats the reason for this exercise, i just gave this exercise a try a month ago and been doing it ever since...my chest is starting to grow again thanks to this technique.
@whosnexttt I tried it as well and i dont feel the tention in my chest when i pause at the bottom, all your doing is coming down, pausing and pushing back up, thts not really keeping tention on the chest
@jaxcity17 try it with lighter weight, squeeze your chest at the top, if you dont feel it, then you are not structually fit for this exercise, stick with other movements that you personally feel, hope this helps
@jaxcity17 i dont like doing regular incline barbell or db's because im locked into a rhythm and end up going through the motions, doing a dead stop press in a rack like in this video allows me to focus on the muscle 100 percent from the very first rep

does anybody know how much the bar on a smith machine weighs? Is it still 45lbs? I ask because it feels lighter to me and have always assumed it was less than a regular bar.
@bonzihunter around 15lb, it also doesn't require stabilization like free weight barbell, i can press 50lb more on the smith machine than free weight barbell.
@vimpyl Kai stopped working with charles before the arnold because he wasnt getting any results from it he said it himself in an interview, his exact words were something like i wasnt happy with the way i looked, thats why he had to go extreme and when u watch his prejudging video they were talking about him going through a lot and werent sure if he was gonna b there, with this said, angle wise charles is the most innovative trainer we have ever seen
@teropoika no edickhead your wrong, ask charles yourself! it was before the 09 arnold! do your research and remove your comment to save yourself looking like an ass!
COME ON!!!

why do so many bodybuilders use the smith machine. I always thought it was somewhat cheating. Maybe i'm wrong just what i thought

@xxcranedudexx A pause press, pausing at the bottom, completely negating any momentum is actually harder. Mmmmmkay?!

@dnice91369 yes that would be true if he pause with the weight and didnt let it rest for a sec at the bottom Mmmmmmmmmmmkay?!
