@kevinslunchbox Try and take great care not to break off this connector from the logic board. If it *does* break off, please give us a call - we are usually able to re-solder this connector back in place for a small labor fee.
@sk8terboymike Just re-connect the cable back to the logic board. Now, if that ribbon cable tore, just let us know - we can either send you the right part or swap it out for you and complete the repair of your device - no worries - we can help you with that possibility.
if my hard drive makes a clicking sound and only shows the apple screen, and then an x, does that mean is just disconnected? or is it completely broken?
it helps alot what u posted here, but i wanted to ask u know the HD ribbon where the pins are.? u know that little black looking solid pin at one of the ends, now if that breaks off can the ipod still work with the HD or will it stop working. and is there a way to put it back.
you don't normally have to mess with that pin during the battery replacement process. But that plastic piece is merely a guide to make sure the pins line up properly and it won't affect the hard drive if that part is gone (unless you line up the pins wrong, that is!). Check out the site for more details.
what if the plastic beige colored connector comes of the logic board? would i have to get a new logic board?

SAVED my iPod! It worked! Thanks!
(Later had to buy an old Apple 12v firewire adapter made for the 3g's after restore attempt, but it's all good now!)

@DeeJayBounce You are wrong, DJB. You are being rude, and just because the internet is currently anonymous does not make it right.
