You should read the manual. it definitely recommends the VIEW interface, that just has your three coloured bars on the left bottom and compass on the right bottom. You do have to remember the keys, but my previous post about viewplyr.dat will make that easier.

Some portals are one way. One red portal in,one red portal out. You cannot go IN an OUT portal or go OUT a IN portal. Some portals, however, a two way! :)

Check Options/Controls, you have some basic spells I am sure.

You won;t learn the patterns to ALL the dungeons because they are made on templates, because 20-30 have been built specifically.

You say Daggerfall dungeons have you doing a lot of walking to find a quest item, treating it as though it's treasure, and yet you cam in wearing chain and you will be leaving wearing Elven! So I would say Dungeon crawling in Daggerfall is MORE fulfilling than Oblivion, where the easy cheat might have 100 gold and a hard chest a pair of trousers!

Alt F11 to fix the fall through the graphics problem.. it will take you to the next quest room. You need to add cheatmode 1 to your Z.CFG.

Streetwise is a conversational skill that lets you talk to poorer people or underworld figures with a greater chance of a favourable reaction in this game. You should probably look after your inventory a little better and simply discard items you don't need on corpses, since going back to your wagon too often is very annoying.
