great videos. I have a question about your wood selection. I have a rather large piece of wormy chesnut in my shop that I picked up at a craft show. I made a couple things with it but It is a very very soft wood (if its wormy chesnut I have (I have a few excellent sources that helped ID the board))
When I mix a hardwood like purpleheart and a softwood, I get (slightly) flattened segments on the softwood. so I figured its best not to mix the two on a segmented bowl. am I correct on this?
@slicksqueegie Actually, I haven't had any problems with uneven segments. After shaping the bowl, I set my lathe at a very low speed and use a small random orbit sander with 120 grit paper and sand it. Maybe this would help. Thanks for the comments and thanks for watching! Dave
Thanks for watching. Actually, I put the pencil lines on so I could keep the grain lined up when gluing. Not necessary, but I like to keep the grain lined up.
