  • love this man so much!!!!!!

  • i know his daughter grace copeland

  • does she say "3 or 4 of you struck out on your own solo careers" ?

  • I remember this album coming out and I played it to death. Most of it was instrumental, and there was an honest effort to introduce African sounds within a western sensibility. At the age of fifteen, it was a really distinct project. Most of the kids in my year were buying up Duran Duran, so good on him for doing something which wasn't another commercial formula.

  • sending out an SOS.

  • of course, today he would be hacked to bits by rebels, but glad he had a chance to do this while there was open window.

Joan Lunden's hair moves as a unit. why don't they wear that anymore.

  • @elvis316 ahhh so true. brutes

  • happy birthday stewart

  • He did an amazing video game score on the Spyro series!

  • Fuck the Police! (I couldn't help it)

  • Joan Lunden is so hot!

  • hhaha what stupid fucking news bitch, "3 or 4 of you went off" HERP DERP

  • The part with the lions was very Spinal Tap.

  • Spyro

  • this dude really is the most interesting man in the world. he should be doing the fucking dos equis commercials.

  • he is so stupid. you dont get tigers in africa but he is a good drummer all the same

  • incredible drummer one of the best

  • The little video was ultra cheesy

  • what an amazing adventure

  • there aint no tigers in africa!!!

  • stewart copeland is by far the most likeable of the three blondes, he really looks both hot and really sweet!!

  • "Well, because there's only three of us.."

  • Stewart Copeland did the Theme Song for the TV Series "The Equalizer", Starring the Late Edward Woodward.

  • She likes Stewart.

  • el mejor de la historia!!!! jodanse los demas

  • i know him personaly

  • Although I like the police, I think all of Stewart Copeland's compositions are brilliant and totally original. As for lions charging a cage while he's inside, well... that's just lame.

  • Sadly that next album, would never come.

  • "well because there's always three of us(...)" = priceless

  • Where can I get that film?

  • around 3:52 of the video the interviewer (joan lundy i think is her name) really makes herself look stupid and does'nt really know how many members are in the police but stewart does correct her mistake soon after. media is so clueless. these big city types don't know what "everyday" people really like!!!

  • you could tell he knew they weren't really going to be getting back together. Awesome guy, one of the best drummers ever.

  • omfg Stewart Copeland riding a horse chasing giraffes in Africa just made my day

  • Joan Lunden. What a hottie!!!!

  • @jonpaulmoen STEWART COPELAND - what a hottie!!!

  • I now remember why I had a crush on Joan Lunden as a teenager... those eyes, what a hottie.

  • The original Spyro Trilogy was a classic.

  • @BladeKun52 Damn straight! Classic Spyro Forever!!

  • @BladeKun52 And Tomba 2.

  • @Purplepen123783

    Stewart didn't compose Tomba 2.

  • @BladeKun52 Damn right he did.

  • @Purplepen123783

No he did not. I looked at the credits. He didn't compose Tomba 2.

  • @BladeKun52 You better check again. Do you even own a copy? I didn't think so.

  • STEWART IS SELF-ABSORBED IN HIMSELF. HE'S A GREAT DRUMMER YET NOT SURE WAHT HE'S GIVING BACK OF SELFLESSNESS, HE HAS A HUGE EGO FOR SURE, AND I QUESTIAN HIS HEART AND MOTIVES. WHY WAS HE PISSING OFF THESE LIONS, THERE IS ONLY ONE REASON, ATTENTION OF THEIR POWER, ESPECIAL WHEN ENRAGED. I THINK HE;S A DUMB ASS TO DIO THAT AND AN ANIMAL LOVER WOULD NOT THINK OF THAT SHIT. ASS HOLE, BUT HE'S HARD LIKE THAT I'M SURE. WILL HE EVER GROW UP?

  • That is too funny. He was playing the drums in a cage, while lions charged at him. That is both funny, and thought provoking. I firmly belive that he is by far; one if the worlds greatest drummers, however, rock musicians have a penchant for doing wierd stuff like that. I think I wil just continue listening to the music, enjoy his immense talent and forget about the lions and the cage thing. :)

  • Man, if I had just watched this video back then, I would have been SO excited for their next album... but it never came. I hate being born in the 90s

  • stewart is so awesome.. A true american treasure

  • 03.58 Dodo Interviewer flub - note how he blinks, then effortlessly puts her in her place. Breathtaking.

  • pretty lame. what's the point? and that was a bunch of male lions which would means he wasn't in the middle of nowhere africa... and then you have camera shots from outside the fence - lol. drumming he's brilliant. real life he is a tard.

  • peanuts!

  • rock music to lions...cool

  • "What happens when you play rock music to lions?" Holy shit, I just laughed my ass off.

  • I know his son Patrick, Wow he looks almost identical to him!

  • 3:55 - "And then you guys just.. Stopped, and 3 or 4 of you really struck out on your own projects! Why'd you do that?"

OR 4?! Has she ever heard of the Police?:)

  • @mhazani Haha! Yeah, what an idiot.

  • The Great White Drummer!!!

  • i love you stewart i think your the best your my babe and always will be

  • Stewart was in denial about The Police break up for so many yrs. Really sad. I was sad too for many yrs. Totally shocked when they toured a few yrs back and I was able to see a show.

  • Tigers..........in Africa?????

  • sc is the coolest, who wouldn't want to have a beer w/ him?

  • back together my ass -.-

  • Joan Lunden is stunningly beautiful. Stew is one of the best drummers ever IMHO.

  • interviewer = hot

    interviewer has hots for copeland

  • yeah i notied that too lol

  • I can't believe people are actually talking about Kanye West on this post. Anyway...thanks for uploading this.

  • Genius ! Mr. Copeland only he would come

up with idea of play for Lions.

    T

  • Stewart Copeland: what a cool fucking dude.

  • @elvis316 Amen, my brotha from anotha mutha!

  • @elvis316 please dont curse asshole

  • Who is the dingbat interviewing Stewart? How did she get this gig? She keeps insinuating that he's mentally challenged for going to Africa and doing what he did. I would give my left testacle to go to Africa and serenade wild animals, and jam with the Watusi's and Masai. I'm happy Stewart got some television airtime because he's brilliant and deserves it. But couldn't they have gotten someone with a more comprehensive world view and someone more familiar with his work to do the interview??

  • Her name is Joan Lunden and this was on a show called Good Morning America which is still on. She seemed to do alot of interviews with rock stars for some reason.

  • Stewart has always been very outspoken, right or wrong and let's remember there were three people in that band not just one. I totally agree with obsidiansands1.

  • Actually, as three enthusiastic, confident and (yes) occasionally arrogant guys, Stewart, Andy & Sting were PERFECT as a band. It just wasn't gonna last for a lifetime. I find that humor, sarcasm and intelligence are often mistaken for arrogance and nastiness. I think a lot of people are afraid of skill and intelligence.

  • You make a very interesting point, and I think you are dead-on. Stewart Copeland, Andy Summers, and Gordon Sumner are each brilliant artists- each the very best and completely original in their approach to their craft- and have more than enough talent to have their own successful individual projects. Any time you have a band where this is the case, it's going to be very difficult and complicated to keep the group together. I believe the people who attack and deride these artists are jealous.

  • Couldn't agree more; in fact, as power trios go, they are in my all time top five.

Would it have been great to have five more years of albums/touring? Sure. Was that likely? Nah. ;)

  • @obsidiansands1 True Beatles didn't last forever, but just like the Police, what came out of it, was fantastic.

  • "so in other words the group is getting back together"

    "absolutely"

he forgot to mention it'd take 25 years!

  • hes a fucking legend, playing in a cage surrounded by lions looooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooool

  • I wasn't the one who brought Kanye West up. I was just defending his artistic ability when someone else tried to trash it. I don't understand why some people have to put another artist down whenever they talk about artists they DO like. Kanye West isn't shit compared to anybody. Kanye West is a great artist. The Police are great artists. That one is good doesn't mean the other has to suck. People need to grow up around here.

  • I think Stewart Copeland is very talented and just plain awesome :)

  • and you have inside info on this?

  • as was no proof. theories are just theories...

  • It was reported in our media (UK) at the time. I am sure that the devious, arrogant, corrupt creep would have sued the ass of our media if it wasn't true!

Miles Copeland Snr was involved in far more serious political interference on a truly global scale. He was proud of it! The issue of him using a Band Aid flight to set up arms deals, pales into almost insignificance by comparison!

The Copeland dynasty runs parallel, and comparatively to the equally 'contact/network based' Bush dynasty. Fact!

  • still no proof. you sound bitter.

  • hot 80s hole

  • AH fcuking hell, he says they were gunna get back together!!!!!! aaah fuck u sting

  • wrong turn

  • Stewart b4 he got his teeth done, but how cute!!

  • is this guy half british and half american?

  • i think he is american born in istanbul then moved to england

  • NO!

He s born in Virgina, moved with family in Cairo Egypt and then Beirut. He is son of dyplomatic and cia agent....

  • No, he's cool. Kanye West and all of the shitty music these days.

  • Kanye West is very talented. Just because an artist is popular doesn't make them shitty. Case in point: The Police.

  • No he's not, he doesn't write his own songs, AND he samples music. That's pretty lazy.

  • First off, he definitely writes his own songs. All of 'em. He shares credit with Rhymefest on one song, but he wrote the majority of the album version himself anyways. Moreover, sampling isn't inherently lazy when it's done well (look at DJ Shadow or the Dust Brothers). Kanye West adds quite a bit to his samples to make his OWN instrumentals. Truth be told, I seriously doubt you've actually listened to Kanye West's discography.

  • Why in the jew would I want to listen to his egotistical album talking about how he thinks that he is the best? Just because some people sample good does not mean he does. They're all awful sounding. Saying he writes his stuff only makes him look worse considering he rhymes the same words together. So think about how the world would be alot better off with out that little prick running his huge mouth off. Remember, good artists still exists.

  • Okay, you've proven to not have a whole ton of credibility in this conversation, so please understand that I can't possibly continue taking your arguments seriously anymore. Ironically, the biggest "prick" here isn't Kanye West (and to forestall the inevitable: it's not me, either).

  • Credibility? Believability, don't use big fancy words unless you know what they mean you tool. Kanye blows, just like the rest of the rap genre. His ego irritates me. He's obviously not the biggest prick here, he's not here, you're the jackass. Don't bring that loser up when were on a musical genius' video.

  • Again, the only "loser" here is you. You're being staggeringly narrowminded. And the name-calling? It's not going to win you any arguments. Why don't you calm down and stop with the baseless allegations. Maybe then we can turn this into a worthwhile debate instead of a worthless bitchfest.

And for the record (again): I didn't bring Kanye West's name into this discussion. I only stood up for his artistic credibility when someone else tried to discredit him. I'd do the same for anyone.

  • Instead of doing the same for anyone, why don't you do the same to someone who deserves it? The only thing Kanye brought the world was whining. Nice hypocrisy, "You're a loser, name-calling's childish." What are you, two years old? You're so stupid, stop using credibility when you don't know what it means. He's not artistic, I could do what he does, whine and sample. Easy as shit.

  • He writes his own songs?? Dream on! You´re saying he wrote "Diamonds are Forever" and "Move on up" are you? (To name but two of the songs that he´s "borrowed")

  • Um...I think you're missing the point of "sampling".

  • Maybe I am, but sampling is simply NOT song writing. Changing a few lyrics takes very little "talent". If KW didn´t have all these old hits to plunder he´d have no career.

What takes real talent? To write something as incredible as `Move on up´, or to change the words a bit?

  • Some priceless comments on this thread.

    "the police with kanye west"

    "Uh, yeah, uh, yeah,uh....

Put your hands in the ay-uh,

and wave em like you just don´t cay-uh...."

    Awesome lyrics KW. Just Awesome.

  • you suck

  • "the natives" - what a cunt is that interviewer....

  • LOLs what a twat!

  • A tiger? In Africa?

  • Since you asked so nicely...go shred your ass.

  • Like the way she says "three or four of you ..." and he says well because there are only "three of us". He said it with a straight face but I think he was being sarcastic. Funny.

  • Hes an amazing drummer, a bit square...

  • rather posh, for an American, sounds like a less affected Loyd Grossman, speaks rather different these days.

  • stewart copeland's american?

why did i just find this out.

  • that's great, where she says "three or four of you"--you can tell she has no clue who he is.

  • yeah. oh my god, she should do a bit of research before she interviews stewart copeland. hes a legend. I got kind of shocked at that aswell, three or four of you.... god damn

  • A tiger, in Africa?

  • It doesn't matter why they're dressed as a tiger! Have they got my leg?!

  • didn't he bet the shit out of sting?

  • If he did ill give him a god damn medal

  • why do you say that

  • why did he beat him up?

  • They would argue allot and once he broke one of stings ribs

  • haha, its all a part of being good friends and a band i guess:P

  • Exactly

  • Someone should have!

  • i think it actually really happened.

  • he's really hot! much more than sting....

  • bitch is fuckin hot

  • ...and we certainly DID hear from the Police again :)

  • Though it wasn't for a REALLY, REALLY LONG TIME!

  • I wonder how hard she was kicking herself after that one...or if she even had the sense to! I mean, really...that hurt.

  • The police are still a band...ha little did he know

  • es un genio ese tipo

  • little did he know

  • "Well, because there's only three of us." Hahaha

  • Joan London (sp?) is awesome personally I think she has a man crush for Stewart Copeland. Lets be honest, I would bag Joan and play "Every Little Thing She Does Is Magic" on her 1980s body!

  • Lunden, not London.

  • "3 or 4 of you"

    ...

Stewart shouldve drummed on her head

  • 1:34 Drumstick hits mic

  • I like her, i could find a couple of jobs she could do around my house. anyway copeland rocks, Great Post!!!

  • 3 or 4...WTF...??? This woman does not deserve to be interviewing stewart copeland...!

Stewart is an absolute bad ass...!

  • I think that pissed him off, the look he gave her after she said that...

  • lol yeah what a tard, stewart deserves an interviewer who can at least take the time to read 3 sentences about his group before going on their show.

" well because there is only 3 of us " lol!!

  • That woman is so anoying...

  • That's Joan Lunden (sp). She wasn't so bad really.

  • Oops. She was doing so well until the bit about 'four or five' of you. Never mind. This was 25 years ago for pete's sake (when I was 12). I'm sure they're all over their differences now (lol).

Stewart Copeland is a great musician - and a lot more genuine than the Geordie tosser (in my humble...)

  • and there weapons are sharper lol

  • well actually they did reunite and recorded a different version of Don't Stand so close to me called "Don't stand...86"

But I'm sure that wasn't what every one suspected after he said this lol

  • I WOULD NEVER PLAY DRUMS WITH LIONS ARROUND...

STEWART IS VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY BRAVE!!!

    lol

  • now i want to see the ryhmatist (i cant spell if my life depended on it)

  • :D

    my favorite drummer <3

  • Sad...he thought the group was going to stay together.....but they didnt! BUT I AM SOOO GLAD THEY ARE ON TOUR NOW!

  • that was for AhYaOk...

  • Typical Copland, at the start 27 seconds in you can hear what is Coplands signature sound, very similare to the work he done on the equalizer. Love it.

  • Hey that clip was pretty cool! never saw that. I bet that takes him back to the early punk days where the crowds werent incredibly kind... at least he had a cage here, lol

  • I always thought he was the coolest one in the band.

  • getting back together.... in 23 years. stewart was in serious denial. he knew the police were done.

  • stewarts great and looks great as well ;-)

  • There are no tigers in Africa

  • What on earth was that? Was Stewart completely out of his mind? Ha ha... playing drums to lions indeed!!! He should have played them to monkeys or chimpanzees (after all they were our ancestors at one point).

  • it'd be sweet if he were riding a panther

  • Don't get me wrong, I mean the dudes an awesome drummer and everything but wtf was he doing w/ giraffes and lions? He kind of went off the deep end a little bit. Too much success too fast can be bad.

  • Well I think he's being honest when he talks of people wanting to visit "the dark continent". It just so happens that he had the wherewithall to do so and, since he's a drummer... working that into it was an obvious connection. Neil Peart of Rush has toured Africa by bicycle at least once and wrote a book about those experiences (The Masked Rider). Hell, I'd *love* to go to Africa myself.
