@defleppard10294 , was done to save weight, when vincent had it he fitted a trim tab to it to improve the efficiency. This boat did win the vendee twice, but single canards are now regarded as not as fast on the more powerfull modern open 60
aha i find it funny cause this guy smoked a whale shark 500km off the coast of nova scotia and his boat is in the RNSYS boat club right now cause he split the whale in half but al most lost his keel
petey241- you think its funny an animal got chopped in half?? like it didn't feel pain or something?? it probably didn't get cleanly cut in half and suffered for quite a while... im sure if you got cut in half it wouldn't be funny now would it? or maybe it would, if we all had your attitude...if i was the sailor i sure as hell would be feeling pretty lousy about what happened.
i eat meat and fish ..but that whale died a useless death painful death....nothing good came from that - but eating meat is a moot point anyway- my point was: at least i don't find it amusing to laugh at the suffering and/or death of another creature..
Normally they'd use harnesses, but not in all situation. And if they fall off they could still use the remote of their self steering, though this is not a good option, either.
Well, he's not actually steering by remote all the time, he does have a remote, though, so he can tell the autopilot to change course (to wind, or course by compass) by a certain amount of degree. Normally while he's trimming sails, working on the foredeck, or working under deck (reading charts, consulting weather data from the internet etc.), the autopilot helms for him. During a race like the Vendee Globe the sailors actually hand steer very little.
Nasty time for an M.O.B. - you'd be in the water, watching your beautiful boat sail away perfectly fine without you: THAT would be a very lonely sight - unless there was a 'I'm in the water, turn to weather' switch on your pocket.
That man needs a PRB...

Don't these guys wear harnesses? You can't swim after one of those things!
chrisarnell1 4 years ago
yu you cant swip after it, but wearing a harness means you get beaten to death.... lose lose situation..
