@SirusDiarota Thanks, glad you enjoyed! Yup... it took a good amount of rehearsal for myself & the cast to get everything as perfect as we could (and there were STILL issues)... but, this was also 2006, and duel-worthy LED sabers were actually very very new at that moment in time. Believe it or not.
At the present time, I'm pretty certain I could "put to shame" both BOP I (this video) and BOP II... but--I'll need a cast to do so! :)
@dallasfanb Visit places such as Ultrasabers if you wish to just buy one... or to make your own, more information & tools are at TheCustomSaberShop. :)
Believe me... NO one wants me to make more of these... uh... more than *ME*.
Only question is... can I get together / put together a complete, competent, capable team... one that won't let me down... one that will see the entire project through to the end...
Apparently (since 2008!!)... this has been an extremely tall order! At least... here in my area of Cali...
@TheTouchedIpod well... there are "nerds", and there are "geeks". :) I'm probably more geek, since I also train in martial arts & saber fencing, so... I'm kind of... uhhh... more like Adam Savage from Mythbusters??! Part geek, part adventurer/stunt guy, part scientist-ish?!?
lol SOMEthing like that! :) I guess I'm pretty hard to categorize, come to think of it. Which may be a GOOD thing.
Nice. I could tell your saber, Darth's, and the other guy had a CF in it. ;o What about the little one in BOP II though? And when is BOP III coming out? And for an MHS saber, what would be a good sinktube size for an overlay? I got a cool idea for a build I'm gonna try and go for this month. My thread will be called "A little something I managed to build" so look out for it on TCSS in a few days if I can manage.
@jedimastergarcia87 no no, actually none of the props in this performance had Crystal Focus running them. :) This was before CF was even completed, and certainly before I owned any.
Additionally, my saber was not a "Darth"--it was a custom-designed saber per some of my specifications.
@jedimastergarcia87 All of the sounds, vocals and music was pre-mixed and edited by myself. The actors (including myself) "timed" things to the best of our abilities.
At the time, it would have been simply impossible to do a gigantic wireless setup on my (non-existent!) budget. Additionally... 10+ sabers would sound like white noise instead of carefully crafted, inter-layered sounds. :)
Still... the show was 100% live, and yup... SOME sabers were doling out sound right there on-stage!
As always, I'm glad if my "no-budget" projects can put a smile of appreciation and enjoyment on even a single person's face, so... much thanks for such a nice comment. :)
@dcwdarklander66 d'ohhh food poisoning is not good... sucks. Sorry to hear that.
When you say "do you still do this", do you mean the live performances? If so... well... I don't have a team right now, so... no. But any excuse/chance I have to get BOP III underway WILL happen, mark my words... :)

@whiteley79 Hey there, I remember ya, Whiteley! Yeah, I sort of stopped goin' to the TFN threads some time ago--mainly because I'm not so much a "super pimped out" film guy, heheheh!! I mean, I'm still using Windows Movie Maker, hahahah (bleah). But it's what I have. Anyhow, sure, I'd love to see "Rivals"! I'll check it out when I get some time!
@simpsonfan272 hehehe, glad you enjoy it, Marco! Yeah, one of these days if I can amass a full cast for BOP III, I'll be able to move forward with it. Problem is... it's now grown into an overwhelming project for just a single man to "do it all".
BTW... your skating experience should allow you to do cheat 720 kicks and pop 9's easily... do your prep... spin hard... then try kicking a leg out just a LITTLE for starters... then work it up to a full-on kick.
@squeakeyguy ...hello, and thanks! Yes, this particular performance was held @ SCU (Santa Clara University) on the Louis B. Mayer theatre stage.
Additionally, the show was done in about 8-10 other places, including the California State Faire (Sac), Baycon (SJ), and also a night show in the street in downtown San Jose to name a few.
how do u make ur light sabers cuz me and my friends love SW and whant to own one hek i would pay u to make me some and one question why is everyones lightsaber green
Thanks guys! Glad you enjoyed. I seriously hope to put together BOP III sometime soon. I just need to assemble the right cast. Most everything else is ready/done/prepared, heheheh...
@donto... Thanks! I dig those moments too... :) Although watch closely at the lower right @ 4:53... where I had Valaris Skyblade (Miguel Balderrama) disarm Toxac (Mark Mensch) in a fairly dramatic way, hahhahahaha!
Anyhow... yup... if I can get a solid cast for BOP III, I'm down to blow the first two performances away...
@Sonic... thank you, happy new year and glad you enjoyed!
Pass it on to your friends + anyone you think who would enjoy! I personally think that my shows (BOP I & II) could stand to be seen by more fans of staged combat and SW... :)
You're welcome, glad you enjoyed... pass it on to more of your friends to watch it!
Hopefully, I'll have a chance to get another team together for BOP III (you know there IS a 2nd one already, right??)... but it remains to be seen, since it's a TON of work.
Thanks icefire... I'll keep that in mind! I'm not sure how much use I have for CG (at least for the LIVE performances), but I do have some film scripts that I've written from A to Z that I'd like to get done.
Only question is time... logistics... a partner to "battle"... cameras... crew... etc. :) LOL
I think I didnt post the video response but just run a search on youtube for "Death of Angels 6" to check it out. lso I had a few, and im sure you get this all the time, "questions" about lightsaber construction, I've actually been really big into the MR sabers but wanna branch out into the luxeon and good soundboards. i've watched ALOT of your videos and they are very helpful, maybe we can get together sometime on MSN or something and swap some knowledge =)
This would be wonderful to see in green screen with different camera angles and screen shots. With this much work, a video production is merited. Bravo to all who participated.
Thanks--much oblige! I actually wrote a "screenplay" version of BOP I (although not for BOP II)... and would love to re-visit it someday with more intense fighting & acro/flips, etc. + filming...
...BUUUUUT... unfortunately, I barely have the time or crew to even do BOP III right now!!! :)
Wow that was seriously freaking awesome! Damn good job man. Got a question though. Is the person who uploads these videos and replies back to comments in the video? Just wondering ha ha. Any ways great video man this rocks!
Thanks, glad you liked! And yup--I wrote, directed, produced, cast, choreographed, and did the sound & vocals for the show... as well as playing the "light side jedi master".
I'm the one with the off-white robes and the green LED saber.
Thank you, but... please go easy on the language!! Remember... there are kids watching/reading as well. Although I can be as guilty for swearing at times as well as anyone else!!!
very nice i would pay 200 bucks to watch this its awesome!!! hey one question. are they light? because i have a force fx but i canot swing it tht fast and easy like you guys! please answer!
Hi acskater960... thanks, that is cool to know that someone would pay, hahah! Donations are always welcomed, as... the shows are/were never "cheap" to make. BOP I cost quite a bit when it comes down to it.
The sabers we used were all custom-made, and i would guess that they were heavier than the Force FX sabers, since we used "thick-walled" polycarbonate blades for that show. We did this as well in BOP II... but for BOP III, I plan on using the thin-walled tubes/blades.
Not all all... it wasn't easy for us either--mainly because none of us were/are "professional" martial artists.
Granted, this was in 2006. As time passes... people have the chance to improve. :) And to create improvement... it takes dedication... practice... analysis... reflection... determination... and never giving into quitting as an option when things get tough. Because they will. :)
Thanks... I've actually written a "full-length" version of BOP I, II, III + a little backstory and "in-between" material...
...but it doesn't seem practical for me to expect such a huge show to ever come about (for now). At least not until many other things occur... uh... such as BOP III!!! :)
Thanks I don't have the dedication to put all that together I'm a really lazy guy lol. I mean it could be better no offense but I mean you put a lot of effort in it so it paid off.
Thanks! I'm glad you enjoyed that... it was actually an idea I got from Bruce Lee's "Enter The Dragon". :)
As a homage, I wanted to give a "nod" to that awesome scene where Lee grabs two wooden sticks from an opponent, then proceeds to "go to town" on a guy, hahahah. It's just before he uses the nunchakas, hahhaha. Classic.
you should take advantage of the green behind in order to create your own background-it cans easily be done in after efects or any other video editing porgramme\!
This was a totally live performance, and no--that wasn't a green screen.
Additionally... the entire point was to NOT use "post production" special effects, and rely solely on what is possible in the real world.
Granted... this first production was fairly simplistic (well RELATIVELY simplistic!), and my second one... a bit more complex... and the third one?? Well, it should make the other two look like kid n' play. :)
I can't believe I haven't seen this before. It was very well done, and very well choreographed. If I were closer to where you are I'd volunteer for your team in a heartbeat.
I posted a comment on your lightsabers and how great i thought they were. (love starwars)Im not the bigest fan of jedi because they are easy to be, just a saber and robe but you and your group pulled it off I like that its theater. I also like the slow motion parts. well done I /bow to you.
maybe you should install a safety thing so the sabers dosent accidently turn off like in the start... but i really dont care i dident see any of that in BOP II and the nice sci-fi effects!? is good enough to satisfy me! once again good job!
At that time, back in 2005... we knew very little about the sabers, as Corbin was our designer.
It just so happened that the switch was faulty on that saber (the 2nd one to be installed in it!!!), and we never could figure out why it wouldn't go on at times... or it would just shut off by itself.
By the time BOP II rolled around, *I* was the one handling all the sabers, and none of them failed.
Yes... in addition to directing, choreographing, producing, casting, prop making, sound designing, vocal recording, costume procuring, video editing, and setting up venues...
...that's me with the green saber, heheh! :) "Novastar".
It was amusing, but that was likely not the intent. I saw the first half only. But from what I did see, I love it. The stunt actors are very nice. I've only seen you around the forums NovaStar, I love your costume and your lightsaber fighting.
I might just buy one of the sturdier blades for some fun of my own.
Absolutely brilliant. one of the best i've seen with some fantastic choreography and above-average acting. you should all be very proud of yourselves and what you have achieved here.
Hi MetalThor... yes, it is indeed me, lol! In addition to writing, directing, choreographing and doing sound + a bunch of other things... yup, there I am as the Jedi Master in white/off-white.
I only wish I had the skills of someone like Jujimufu or Anis Cheurfu or Matt Mullins... that would have been SICK. :)
Thanks, I appreciate it... to be honest--I've never been a hardcore SW fan either. :) I always just wanted to see some LIVE saber combat that was at least pretty cool... even if from volunteers!
semi-unrelated but, where can I get a couple decent soundboards for my parksabers (double helix) and would it be too complicated to put them in myself? (as in, does a parksaber not have a lot of empty space on the inside)
Most Excellent! I really enjoyed the atmosphere and skill displayed in your show, I wish there were more talented actors/directors like you! All in all just superb!
Thanks! Glad you enjoyed it. I only hope that BOP III produces as much excitement, enjoyment, and cool techno-prop "edge" that the other two shows have.
The second one is already available to be viewed--it's been there since May/June 2007 (EP II).
Episode III is being worked on, but there have been dozens of delays that I cannot control. There are not enough people in my area that are both capable and also have the dedication to complete the project. Episode III is *massive*, and it may never be completed unless I get the support of the community and a full, capable, dedicated cast. I have neither right now! :)
Man, that was such a stunning performance! All of the episodes were. But you said that you're having trouble finding people for the third? I honestly find that hard to believe. I mean, who wouldn't want to get involved in this? And what happened to the actors? Don't they want to be in the third episode?
Well, everyone has their reasons, and many wish to move on to other projects. This kind of thing is VERY difficult to do also--especially since this 3rd one is so massively long, and very very heavy on the battles.
But yes, it is (for whatever reason) nearly impossible for me to find a complete cast that is both CAPABLE and DEDICATED. As to the actors, yes... unfortunately all but one (not including myself) have given up on the project.
Doesn't matter. It's not over yet! I'll find others.
Thanks, glad you enjoyed... actually, I studied a lot of theatre and a little film in college. I've directed several performances before, worked on many staged combat projects, and acted in many plays/small films.
The Balance of Power series is the first set of projects where I've taken on SO many challenges and jobs all at once though, including director, actor, choreographer, saber technician, logistics, sound technician, venue organization, and all that jazz. It's been TOUGH.
Thanks... that's actually pretty awesome of you to have noticed! A lot of people don't realize how few "bodies" worked on these shows! :) In the case of BOP II, there was a little bit more vocal help, and in BOP III I have even more... which is good.
But yes, I'm still the voice of Necrolosis, Novastar, Cael, Droid Intercom (BOP II), some STs (BOP II), and many a death scream, heheh...
No problem...I just check in with people now and then...I just told the 2 groups I moderate on Facebook to check out the video and rate it and post comments--so hopefully you'll get a few more--SEND MY LOVE TO THE CREW!
What combat forms are the fighters using?

...but it doesn't seem practical for me to expect such a huge show to ever come about (for now). At least not until many other things occur... uh... such as BOP III!!! :)

Wow that's really good for a...well I'm not sure what you would call that lol. It's impressive you choreographed and wrote all of that. Nice job.

For a... live performance with story, character, dialogue, staging and "lightsaber" combat? :)
Thank you though! :) I thought you might enjoy it. Good saber spins on your last vid too. --Nova
greytale 2 years ago
Thanks I don't have the dedication to put all that together I'm a really lazy guy lol. I mean it could be better no offense but I mean you put a lot of effort in it so it paid off.
lazyasian15 2 years ago
yea, when the dude wails on the sith with dual lightsabers, well, that just made my day. lol well done.
Vampyr64 2 years ago
Classic.

you should take advantage of the green behind in order to create your own background-it cans easily be done in after efects or any other video editing porgramme\!
akura92 2 years ago
This was a totally live performance, and no--that wasn't a green screen.
Additionally... the entire point was to NOT use "post production" special effects, and rely solely on what is possible in the real world.
Granted... this first production was fairly simplistic (well RELATIVELY simplistic!), and my second one... a bit more complex... and the third one?? Well, it should make the other two look like kid n' play. :)
greytale 2 years ago
I can't believe I haven't seen this before. It was very well done, and very well choreographed. If I were closer to where you are I'd volunteer for your team in a heartbeat.

Is this during the New Jedi Order period or before? I know it's not related to Lucas's Star Wars story but I'm just curious.

maybe you should install a safety thing so the sabers dosent accidently turn off like in the start... but i really dont care i dident see any of that in BOP II and the nice sci-fi effects!? is good enough to satisfy me! once again good job!
-DS-
ImperialSith 3 years ago
At that time, back in 2005... we knew very little about the sabers, as Corbin was our designer.
It just so happened that the switch was faulty on that saber (the 2nd one to be installed in it!!!), and we never could figure out why it wouldn't go on at times... or it would just shut off by itself.
By the time BOP II rolled around, *I* was the one handling all the sabers, and none of them failed.
greytale 3 years ago
This remindes me of Jedi Academy
SSJ3Croat 3 years ago
The JA game was a little bit of the inspiration on why I put the show together. :)
But it was mostly John Williams' awesome piece "The Clash of Lightsabers".

are you in the video?
angelraily 3 years ago
Yes... in addition to directing, choreographing, producing, casting, prop making, sound designing, vocal recording, costume procuring, video editing, and setting up venues...
...that's me with the green saber, heheh! :) "Novastar".
greytale 3 years ago
Very well done.
TripleSixJohnny 3 years ago
Glad you liked... what made it 'amusing, but that was likely not the intent'? So far I haven't had anyone say that it was "funny". lol
Well, not funny like Whose Line, hahahah.
BOP II has a lot more "comedy" in it--although I left it more campy, to stick with the homage to Lucas.
greytale 3 years ago
whoa. good stuff.
well done.

MetalThor777 3 years ago 2
Hi MetalThor... yes, it is indeed me, lol! In addition to writing, directing, choreographing and doing sound + a bunch of other things... yup, there I am as the Jedi Master in white/off-white.
I only wish I had the skills of someone like Jujimufu or Anis Cheurfu or Matt Mullins... that would have been SICK. :)

semi-unrelated but, where can I get a couple decent soundboards for my parksabers (double helix) and would it be too complicated to put them in myself? (as in, does a parksaber not have a lot of empty space on the inside)
pfcpowell18 3 years ago
If only I could get paid to do this with my sabers lol
pfcpowell18 3 years ago
None of us were paid either... :) So don't feel bad. ;)

OberonSilhouette 3 years ago
that was done so professionally, I almost thought Starwars was real!

Thanks! Glad you enjoyed it. I only hope that BOP III produces as much excitement, enjoyment, and cool techno-prop "edge" that the other two shows have.
greytale 4 years ago
when is the second one coming out and how much are Luxeon LED Lightsabers?
krzyboi69 4 years ago
The second one is already available to be viewed--it's been there since May/June 2007 (EP II).
Episode III is being worked on, but there have been dozens of delays that I cannot control. There are not enough people in my area that are both capable and also have the dedication to complete the project. Episode III is *massive*, and it may never be completed unless I get the support of the community and a full, capable, dedicated cast. I have neither right now! :)
greytale 4 years ago
Man, that was such a stunning performance! All of the episodes were. But you said that you're having trouble finding people for the third? I honestly find that hard to believe. I mean, who wouldn't want to get involved in this? And what happened to the actors? Don't they want to be in the third episode?
redclark831 4 years ago
Well, everyone has their reasons, and many wish to move on to other projects. This kind of thing is VERY difficult to do also--especially since this 3rd one is so massively long, and very very heavy on the battles.
But yes, it is (for whatever reason) nearly impossible for me to find a complete cast that is both CAPABLE and DEDICATED. As to the actors, yes... unfortunately all but one (not including myself) have given up on the project.
Doesn't matter. It's not over yet! I'll find others.
greytale 3 years ago
Damn, nicely done! And live on stage, no less!
You ever considered the theatre? You'd be badass.
Sanguiluna 4 years ago
Thanks, glad you enjoyed... actually, I studied a lot of theatre and a little film in college. I've directed several performances before, worked on many staged combat projects, and acted in many plays/small films.
The Balance of Power series is the first set of projects where I've taken on SO many challenges and jobs all at once though, including director, actor, choreographer, saber technician, logistics, sound technician, venue organization, and all that jazz. It's been TOUGH.

you did all male vocals impressive, most impressive
IrishCinema7 4 years ago
Thanks... that's actually pretty awesome of you to have noticed!
